Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity  What is Mu Phi Epsilon? Mu Phi Epsilon is a professional International Music organization which was founded on November 13, 1903, at the Metropolitan School of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Gamma chapter at the University of Michigan (U of M) was installed in 1904. Since then, Mu Phi Epsilon has been a viable part of the Music Department and an asset to the U of M. In addition, the Ann Arbor Alumni chapter was formed and installed in 1913 to support and assist the Mu Phi collegiates at the University of Michigan. Scholarships, composition and research contests, recitals, and much, much more are available Fraternity-wide and also at the local level. Most of all, Mu Phi Epsilon offers a permanent bond of friendship within the local chapter & with chapters world-wide. What are the requirements for membership? You must have attained second semester freshman standing as a music major/minor at the University of Michigan and passed first semester theory with a grade of “B” or higher; have a of 2.5 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in Music classes. How much time will it take to become a member? There will be candidate meetings at an agreed upon time by the members of the candidate class. Also, there will be a candidate class musical project that the candidates will choose and work on together. And last but not least, the most fun will be your learning about the other members as you share musical adventures together. How much time will it take as a member? The regular meetings usually last 45 minutes to an hour. About once a month, there will be an activity: musical, service project, fund-raiser, party. How much does Mu Phi Epsilon Cost? * Here’s the breakdown….. Pledge Fee (due right away) ………………………………….. $15.00 Initiation Fee (due two weeks before initiation)………………. $77.00 Fee includes Initiation Fee, International Collegiate Dues, & “The Triangle” Magazine for one year, and Official Badge Local Chapter Dues …………………………………………….
