Successful Fall Rush In The Books
More than 950 bids were accepted during Fall 2014 Rush
This Fall Rush, our Council focused on providing our potential new members with 4 core reasons as to why rush
an IFC Fraternity. These four core reasons were academic success, campus involvement, community service, and postgraduation benefits. We spoke about how the central purposes of fraternities is to promote academic excellence, give
their members the opportunity to enhance and develop their leadership skills, and provide their members with the ability
to give back to our community. We also harped on the fact that since the job market continues to get more and more
competitive, IFC fraternities allow you to network and build relationships with people all over the country.
The Council’s Fall Rush began with our Rush Info Seminar where we allowed an open forum for potential new
members to ask any questions they have about IFC and the Rush process. Next came House Preview where potential new
members visited each house for a certain period of time. Presidents and Rush Chairs gave speeches which mentioned
athletics, academics, philanthropies, brotherhood, and other aspects of their Fraternity. Rush finally came, where more
than 950 Florida State students found new brotherhoods to join. 950 accepted bids is the highest number our Council has
ever seen! Be proud to say that you are in Greek Life at The Florida State University!
IFC Risk Management Seminar
After Rush concluded, chapter executive board members, chapter members and new
members gathered together for our semesterly Risk Management Seminar. We held this seminar to
ensure that everyone makes smart, ethical, and safe decisions throughout the seminar. Our guest
speaker was Tor Friedman, and he stressed to everyone that we should make smart decisions and
that we should think before we act. We represent IFC and Florida State everywhere we go and we
should always act as gentleman.
The 4th Annual Student Veteran Film Festival
Join us on November 11th 2014 for the The 4th Annual Student Veteran Film
Festival! The Student Veteran Film Festival is sponsored by the Collegiate
Veteran’s Association, The FSU Interfraternity Council, The Panhellinic
Association at Florida State University and the FSU Student Veterans Center.
This year’s marquee film is Last Days In Vietnam by acclaimed
documentarian Rory Kennedy. Rory Kennedy is the daughter of the late
Senator Robert Kennedy. Kennedy captures the thrilling account of U.S.
Service Members evacuating their South Vietnamese colleagues and friends
during the closing days of the Vietnam War. The screening of the film will
begin at 3pm at the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall, followed by a Panel
Discussion featuring Ms. Kennedy and a Formal Reception at 6pm. Our
Council is proud to be apart of a movement that advances the understanding
of the veteran experience.
Our Coucil would like to congratulate the founding class of Phi Gamma Delta! Phi Gamma Delta,
also known as FIJI, is the newest IFC Fraternity here at Florida State University. Last Spring, we had
Beta Theta Pi join our IFC Community and they are doing extremely well. We are excited to have
these two fraternities in our IFC Community and the addition of these two chapters will continue to
grow and benefit our IFC Community!
If you would like to make an announcement
at our IFC Delegate Meetings, please email
[email protected] at least a week before
the meeting. We have our meetings every
other Tuesday in the Oglesby Student Union
Senate Chambers.
This past Summer, Pi Kappa Alpha was
awarded the Smythe Award for the 13th year in
a row. The Smythe Award is given to the best
Pi Kappa Alpha chapter in the Nation and is
an extremely huge honor. Congratulations to
the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha for your
continuous hard work and dedication to prove
your excellence!
Congratulations to Beta Theta Pi’s Bryson
Clifton for receiving the Garnet and Gold
Key’s True Seminole Award. The True
Seminole Award is the Garnet and Gold Key’s
highest honor. A True Seminole exemplifies
Vires, Artes, and Mores. Thank you Bryson
for representing IFC and your fraternity in an
exemplary way!

Congratulations to the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon for
being awarded with the Inaugural Guide-On Award from
the Collegiate Veteran’s Association. Over the past 2 years,
FSU SigEp has donated over $9,000 to the Collegiate
Veteran’s Association. They received the award in
recognition of their partnership and support of the CVA.
This semester, the brothers of Phi Delta Theta hosted their
Strikeout ALS Softball Tournament which raised over
$3000 for the ALSA Foundation. It has been 75 years since
Columbia Phi Delta Theta brother, Lou Gehrig, said
goodbye to baseball through his “Luckiest Man” speech.
He passed away two years later and since then, ALS has
continued to effect the lives of thousands.
On October 17th, our Council joined newly-elected Florida State University President John Thrasher,
The FSU Student Government Association, and others for the University’s “Raise The Torch”
Campaign Kickoff Celebration. Our Council was able to present our $12,000 check to the FSU
Student Foundation’s Protect Our Professors Campaign and Pi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi
Sigma Kappa, and Phi Kappa Tau were able to present their $20,000 check for the College of
Business. Our IFC Executive Board is also excited to welcome President Thrasher to continue to
build a phenomenal Florida State University.
This Fall, our Council launched a campaign of our own called “Be An IFC Man”. All of our
Facebook page and Instagram posts promotion Fall Rush were always ended with the hashtage
#BeAnIFCMan. After Rush concluded, we continued the campaign by choosing an IFC man each
week to be our IFC Man of the Week. The criteria for choosing the IFC Man of the Week was based
upon our four core reasons to rush an IFC Fraternity. Below are the following IFC Men of the Week
for the Fall 2014 Semester…
Kevin Cowan
Fraternity: Pi Kappa Phi
Christopher Seifter
Fraternity: Sigma Phi Epsilon
This past Summer, Kevin Cowan of the Pi Kappa Phi
Fraternity embarked on the Journey of Hope, a crosscountry cycling trip raising money and awareness through
Push America in order to help support them in their
fight to change how society views people with disabilities.
Kevin began his trek on the West Coast and after over
12,000 miles of cycling, he finished his journey in
Washington, DC.
Christopher Seifter, a brother of the Sigma Phi Epsilon
Fraternity, is a junior here at FSU majoring in Finance. One of
the most frequently asked questions at RUSH is "Are IFC
Fraternity members involved on campus?" Christopher Seifter
shows us how IFC Fraternities give members the opportunity
to enhance and develop their leadership skills. Chris is the
Chairman for the FSU Student Foundation, a trustee on the
FSU Foundation Board of Trustees, and an Undergraduate
Student Senator on the Budget Committee. During the 2013
Legislative Session, Chris was a Legislative Intern for the
Florida House of Representatives for Representative Kevin
Rader. On top of all this, Christopher also works at the
Florida Center for Reading Research while maintaining a top
GPA in SigEp.
Kevin also raised over 7000$ for Push America which
surpassed his personal goal and his team's goal to raise
over 650,000$ for Push America.
Roger Lemarque
Fraternity: Tau Kappa Epsilon
Brooks Reed
Fraternity: Beta Theta Pi
Two of the most frequently asked questions about IFC Fraternities
here at FSU are "Do IFC Fraternity members participate in
community service?" and "Are IFC Fraternity members involved on
campus?" Roger shows us how IFC Fraternities give members the
opportunity to give back to the community and the opportunity to
enhance and develop their leadership skills.
One of the most frequently asked questions at Rush is
"How can joining an IFC Fraternity help me succeed
academically?" Academic success is an important part of
college life and one of the central purposes of fraternities
is to promote academic excellence. Brooks has already
received his Research Intensive Bachelor's Certificate in
Political Science and was selected as a 2014 Social
Science Scholar. This past Summer, he received the
Sultan Qaboos Summer Arabic Language and Media
Scholarship, where he was able to study for six weeks in
Manah, Oman. Brooks also sits as a chairman on the
Social Science Leadership Council and is the
Programming Chair for Men Advocating Responsible
Conduct (MARC). After graduation, Brooks plans to
pursue a career in International Development with a
focus on Civic Engagement.
Currently, Roger is the Vice President of Tau Kappa Epsilon and
the President of our Greek Honorary Society known as Order of
Omega. During Roger's time at FSU, he has participated in Dance
Marathon and Relay For Life three times, dating back to his
freshman year. Roger prides himself of his willingness by
participating in many local philanthropies and volunteering when an
opportunity is given. Roger is also a founding member of the service
fraternity Epsilon Sigma Alpha, where he has served as the
Philanthropy Chair and the Treasurer. On top of all this, Roger also
served as the Treasurer for Order of Omega, the External
Philanthropy Chair for Tau Kappa Epsilon, and also sat on the
expansion committee for the Interfraternity Council.
