2014 PCRA ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
MARCH 22, 2014 – HARRISBURG HILTON, HARRISBURG, PA
Welcome
The membership of the Pennsylvania Court Reporters Association (PCRA) met on Saturday, March 22,
2014, at the Hilton Hotel in Harrisburg, PA. President Donna Betza, CMRS welcomed those present and
called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. Ms. Betza thanked all present for attending the 2014 PCRA
Annual Convention.
President Betza thanked Mal Fuller, a member of the Friends of Flight 93 organization for his brief
presentation on their work and the importance of preserving the oral histories. President Betza
encouraged members to visit the Flight 93 vendor table located within the PCRA Exhibit Area and
consider volunteering to transcribe oral histories. President Betza noted that events surrounding Flight
93 will be a part of our 2015 annual convention to be held at Seven Springs in Champion, PA.
Treasurer’s Report
Secretary-Treasurer Susan E. Kiniry, RMR presented the treasurer’s report. PCRA held net assets of
$184,537 as of December 31, 2013. Ms. Kiniry noted to the membership that the Board of Directors has
spent money on marketing the profession and recently ran a series of ads in The Legal Intelligencer and
created a Student Enrichment Fund as an additional means of building stronger alliances with the court
reporting schools in Pennsylvania and pledged continued fiscal responsibility to the members of the
organization.
Nominating Committee Report
Immediate Past President Lillian Freiler presented the report of the Nominating Committee and
presented the 2014 slate of officers as Kathleen McHugh, RPR, CRR, CSR(NJ), President, Susan E. Kiniry,
RMR, President-elect, and Melissa Keating, RPR, Secretary-Treasurer.
Installation of Officers
NCRA Director Michele York welcomed everyone in attendance. Ms. York is a reporter in New
Hampshire, however, she is from Pennsylvania and is a member of PCRA and a friend and advocate of
the association. She thanked President Donna Betza for her two years of service to the board. Ms. York
installed officers President, Kathleen McHugh, President-elect Susan E. Kiniry, Secretary-Treasurer
Melissa Keating, and new Directors Bonnie Bell (District 5), Melissa Hoffman (District 1) and Julie Wilson
(District 7).
President’s Remarks
Newly installed President Kathleen McHugh addressed the membership. She thanked all those in
attendance for their past commitment to the profession. She asked for their continued support to help
shape the future of the profession and our association. President McHugh thanked the management
team, Innovative AMC, for their guidance and support and for organizing another successful convention.
She thanked all the presenters for the excellent seminar content and all the vendors for their continued
support and commitment to PCRA. Ms. McHugh thanked colleague Barbara Quinn, for once again
chairing a successful silent auction.
President McHugh spoke of the past work of PCRA under the leadership of Past President Betza,
including strengthening relationships with other organizations such as the Pennsylvania Association of
Court Management and the Conference of County Bar Leaders. She thanked President-Elect Susan
Kiniry for her work with the court reporting schools and collaborating with PCRA Member Donna Cascio,
on the Flight 93 oral history project.
President McHugh thanked the various directors for their hard work and commitment to the board and
the organization and referenced items such as establishing the PCRA Regional Seminars under the
leadership of Secretary-Treasurer Melissa Keating, the work of the marketing committee, NCRA testing
assistance and attendance at NCRA Boot Camp and various conferences.
President McHugh welcomed new directors Bonnie Bell, Melissa Hoffman and Julie Wilson to their
service on the board. She also acknowledged and welcomed all past leaders of the association.
President McHugh outlined some of the projects PCRA will be working on over her term, including:
outreach and awareness of the profession, the Flight 93 oral history project, Veteran’s history project,
continued support of the schools and marketing the profession. She encouraged all members to commit
volunteer hours to the organization by agreeing to serve on a project or a committee.
President McHugh thanked everyone for their attendance and adjourned the meeting at 12:45pm.
