While the Wickham interchange is being built, all trains between the Newcastle CBD and Hamilton Station will be replaced by dedicated shuttle buses running both ways. On weekdays, the first service from Newcastle will leave at 2.11 am, and the last at 12.01 am. On weekends, the first service will leave at 1.19 am, and the last at 11.08 pm. A printed timetable showing integrated train and shuttle bus connections will be available for customers shortly. Construction of a world-class light rail in Newcastle will also start in late 2015. These projects start with the truncation of the train line into Newcastle on 26 December 2014 to allow construction of the new Wickham interchange to begin. This will mean the permanent closure of Newcastle, Civic, and Wickham Stations. Upgrades will take place at Hamilton Station, and on 5 January 2015 Hamilton Station will reopen as a temporary interchange until the Wickham interchange is complete in 2016. MARYVILLE Whether using Opal or a paper ticket, travel on these buses will cost the same as if you were catching the train. This means you will only pay one fare that is the same as the current train fares. Once the Wickham interchange is complete, all trains will terminate there. Buses will continue to meet trains and connect you with the Newcastle CBD until the construction of light rail is complete.
