How to plan your trip during
construction
Dedicated shuttle buses will connect you
with the city centre
Bus services will meet every train service at Hamilton.
A bus to meet every train and
a seat for every customer
Buses from Newcastle will leave around 25 minutes before
connecting trains are due to depart Hamilton.
While the Wickham interchange is being built, all trains
between the Newcastle CBD and Hamilton Station will be
replaced by dedicated shuttle buses running both ways.
On weekdays, the first service from Newcastle will leave at
2.11 am, and the last at 12.01 am. On weekends, the first
service will leave at 1.19 am, and the last at 11.08 pm.
A printed timetable showing integrated train and shuttle
bus connections will be available for customers shortly.
The most up-to-date train and shuttle bus connections
will also be available on the Trip Planner at
transportnsw.info or you can call 131 500
(TTY 1800 637 500).
If you use a mobile device, you can also download

The new Wickham interchange – which will be a transport
hub for trains, buses, light rail, and taxis – is due to open
in 2016. Construction of a world-class light rail in
Newcastle will also start in late 2015.
These projects start with the truncation of the train line
into Newcastle on 26 December 2014 to allow construction
of the new Wickham interchange to begin. This will mean
the permanent closure of Newcastle, Civic, and Wickham
Stations. Upgrades will take place at Hamilton Station,
and on 5 January 2015 Hamilton Station will reopen as a
temporary interchange until the Wickham interchange is
complete in 2016.
We’re committed to keeping you moving
Transport for NSW is committed to doing everything possible
to keep Newcastle and the rest of the Hunter moving

Whether using Opal or a paper ticket, travel on these buses
will cost the same as if you were catching the train. This
means you will only pay one fare that is the same as the
current train fares.
Once the Wickham interchange is complete, all trains will
terminate there. Buses will continue to meet trains and
connect you with the Newcastle CBD until the construction
