A typical JiHM week runs from Saturday to Friday, and the cost is $590 a person per week. Shorter trips can be arranged by contacCng Linda Neal at [email protected]. *New in 2014, the government of Hai7 now charges a $10 tourism fee per person. This is not part of the trip fee. Everyone in your group will need exact change to pay this at the airport in Port au Prince. When is payment due for the trip and where should it be mailed? Payment is due in full 6 weeks before arrival and should be mailed to: Jesus in Hai7 Ministries, c/o Hartley Tax and Accoun7ng, 6066 E. State Blvd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46815 What is the average cost of ﬂights and is the cost included in the JiHM fee? The average cost for a Ccket to Port Au Prince, HaiC, is anywhere from $600-‐$900. The cost is not included in the JiHM fee. All ﬂight arrangements are to be made independently, but travel Cmes must be approved by JiHM before purchasing Cckets. Flights must arrive no earlier than 12 pm on Saturday and leave HaiC no later than 2 pm on Friday. Any excepCons must be pre-‐approved. All group members must arrive and depart in HaiC at the same Cme. There is a $100 fee for each addiConal airport trip for anyone traveling independently from the group, and this excepCon must be pre-‐approved. What is included in the fee? The cost includes food, housing, security, all transportaCon in HaiC and translators. What forms are required for travel? You will need a current passport that doesn’t expire within six months of your return ﬂight from HaiC. You will receive a form on the plane to ﬁll out which will be your visa while in HaiC. You will return this visa at the airport when you leave HaiC. What are the lengths of your trips? The lengths of our trips are as short as four days and at most, seven days. When do you host groups? What is your availability? We have groups serve with us all year, excluding the the six weeks between Thanksgiving and the ﬁrst week of January. What meals do teams eat? • Breakfast: cereal, toast (bu\er, jelly and peanut bu\er), fruit, coﬀee and juice • Lunch: peanut bu\er and jelly sandwich, ham or turkey and cheese sandwich, chips, cookies and a drink. At least one lunch will be at a HaiCan restaurant. • Dinner: A HaiCan cook prepares dinner at the mission hotel. Is the water safe? There will be bo\led water available when traveling to ministry sites and Culligan water available at the mission hotel. What are the travel arrangements to and from the airport? How far is the airport from where the team will be staying? JiHM staﬀ will bring your team to and from the airport in trucks. The mission hotel is about a 30-‐minute drive from the airport. Where do the teams stay? Teams stay at the mission hotel, about ½ mile from the Lighthouse Children’s Home and 1 mile from the Beacon. What is the suggested group size? We suggest groups of 10-‐16 people, though we can accommodate up to 20. Can individuals or families visit JiHM? We are unable to accommodate individual travelers or groups under 7 people, but would be happy to try to connect individuals and smaller groups with an exisCng group. What is a typical day look like for a JiHM missions team? A typical day serving with JiHM includes: • Breakfast: 6:30 – 7:30 am • DevoConal Cme: 7:30 – 8 am (to be organized by group leader) • Leave for the day: 8:30 – 9 am • Lunch: around noon either on-‐site or at a HaiCan restaurant • Leave project site around 3 pm • Free Cme: 4 – 6 pm • Dinner: 6 pm • Debrieﬁng/reﬂecCons with group: ager dinner What kinds of projects can teams expect? You will be visiCng the Points of Light, our areas of ministry, with the purpose of teaching, loving, sharing, caring, and being Jesus to the people of HaiC. (For an explanaCon of each Point of Light, visit our website.) The exact purpose of your visit will depend on the need at the Cme and your group’s skill set. Past groups have done medical trips, dental trips, taught good hygiene, led crags or VBS, strengthened homes, or cleaned and organized at the mission property. The speciﬁcs will be determined by JiHM and the current needs of our ministry. Travel with an aitude of leing God speak through you by laying down your own agendas, and it will be an incredible Cme. Is the JiHM property safe? JiHM has been hosCng groups since 2002. We have JiHM staﬀ who know the language and local culture with our guests at all Cmes. The villages we serve are removed from the areas where most violence has occurred in the past. Teams would be advised not to travel if there was any type of situaCon that would deem travel unsafe. The U.S. State Department does list HaiC as a dangerous country to travel. The UN currently has troops staConed in HaiC and has been successful at keeping order in the country. The people are very friendly and it is safe to walk around the villages in groups with our HaiCan staﬀ. In addiCon, all mission property and the mission hotel is walled and has 24/7 armed security. Is there medical care nearby if I get injured or sick while there? There is a Catholic hospital within walking distance with 24-‐hour medical care. In addiCon, there is an American-‐ staﬀed hospital about 30 minutes from the mission hotel. What is the weather like? DayCme highs are in the 90s year-‐round. Temperatures range from low 70s in the evening to the high 90s in the summer. Does JiHM require any immuniza:ons? JiHM does not require anyone to receive immunizaCons, although many trip parCcipants choose to receive them as an extra precauCon. Please visit h\p://www.cdc.gov/ for informaCon regarding immunizaCon recommendaCons and guidelines. Also, please consult your family doctor for recommendaCons regarding immunizaCons. What paperwork does each trip par:cipant need to ﬁll out? Each trip parCcipant is required to ﬁll out the Mission Trip ApplicaCon Form, available on our website. What should I pack? Visit our website and download our trip packing list. Also, consider bringing items to meet current needs of our ministry, also available on our website. How much money should I bring with me? All expenses are included in the trip fee. The only cash you would need would be for souvenirs and for food traveling to and from HaiC; $100 should more than cover your costs. In addi:on, everyone in your group will need $10 when you arrive at the airport in Port Au Prince to pay a tourism tax. (Bring exact change.) Does JiHM provide a translator for the team? Yes, we always make sure that there is someone with your team that speaks Creole. Our in-‐country team is made up of HaiCan naConals. Wherever your team is going there will be at least one staﬀ member that speaks Creole. Should I be concerned if team members have taZoos and/or piercings? Should they be covered? Ta\oos are viewed in a negaCve light in HaiC; if possible any ta\oos should be covered with clothing. The same applies for piercings besides in the ears.
