physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous
but sinners to repentance.”

Songs of Gathering and Preparation
The people of God always sang as they ascended the hill in Jerusalem up to the temple to worship (see Psalms 120-134). We, as
well, prepare our hearts, minds, and bodies for worship by singing about the God we serve.
The Glory of the Cross
By Bob Kauflin ©2000 PDI Praise, (BMI) Sovereign Grace Music, a division of Sovereign Grace Ministries,
used by permission, CCLI# 1693489
What wisdom once devised the plan where all our sin and pride
Was placed upon the perfect Lamb, who suffered, bled, and died?
The wisdom of a Sovereign God, whose greatness will be shown,
When those who crucified Your Son rejoice around Your throne
And, oh, the glory of the cross,
That You would send Your Son for us.
I gladly count my life as loss,
That I might come to know the glory of, the glory of the cross
What righteousness was there revealed that sets the guilty free,
That justifies ungodly men, and calls the filthy clean?
A righteousness that proved to all Your justice has been met,
And holy wrath is satisfied, through one atoning death.
What mercy now has been proclaimed for those who would believe,
A love incomprehensible, our minds could not conceive?
A mercy that forgives my sin, then makes me like Your Son,
And now I’m loved forever more, because of what You’ve done.
Call to Worship
We read God’s Word, the Bible, together. It reveals to us who God is and what He expects of us.
Philippians 4:4-7 (ESV)
in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The
Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
4 Rejoice
Prayer of Adoration — Dick Greene
We pray together praising God for who He really is (Adoration) and admitting our inability to live up to what He expects of us
(Confession).
Confession of Sin
Selections from Psalm 51 (NLT)
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the
stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it
haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my
joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my
guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your
presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me
willing to obey you.
Assurance of Pardon
We again read God’s Word together and are reminded that mercy and grace are freely given to all who have faith in Jesus
Christ.
Ephesians 3:14-21 (ESV)
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is
named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through
his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted
and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length
and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled
with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or
think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Worship Through Giving
We respond to the good news of God’s mercy and grace for us in Jesus by giving generously to the work of this church and the
kingdom of God.
Sicut Cervus
Giovanni Pierluigi de Palestrina
Psalm 42:1-2
1 As
a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
Praise and Celebration
Our response to God’s free grace is celebratory worship. We express our praise to God for who he is and what he has done for us.

Rejoice
By Todd Twinning © 2006 Sovereign Grace Praise (BMI), used by permission, CCLI# 1693489
All the earth rejoice your Creator reigns as the only awesome God
The Alpha and the Omega, who was, is, and is to come
Let the oceans roar and the mountains sing, He provides for all He has made
So be comforted as He rules with grace, rejoice, all the earth, rejoice
All the world rejoice for the baby comes as a humble prince in the night
The Word made flesh, Emmanuel, The Everlasting Light
Let the warmth of heaven reach the coldest heart with the gospel of His grace
For His heel will bruise the serpent’s head, rejoice, all the world, rejoice
All the church rejoice for your King returns on a white horse wearing a crown
He will break the sky with the angel’s shout descending from the clouds
Then the dead will rise from the land and sea, all His people will ascend
We will reign with Him for eternity, rejoice, all the church, rejoice
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Intercession — Dick Greene
We again express in prayer our gratitude to God for what he has done and ask him to continue to act for our good and the good
of others in our community & world.
(Children, Infants –- Pre-K, are dismissed for Kid’s Worship.)
Proclamation of God’s Word — Tim Rice, Lead Pastor & Director of Church Planting
A small portion of God’s Word is explained to us and applied to our lives and circumstances.
Confession of Faith
As an expression of our faith in Jesus Christ in solidarity with his people, we declare the substance of what we believe.
The Apostle’s Creed:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his
only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried; he descended into hell. The third
day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe
in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
From the Westminster Shorter Catechism:
Q. 9. What is the work of creation?
A.
The work of creation is, God's making all things of nothing, by the word of his power,
in the space of six days, and all very good.
Q. 10. How did God create man?
A.
God created man male and female, after his own image, in knowledge, righteousness,
and holiness, with dominion over the creatures.
Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
The ritual meal of Communion is a sign and seal of the grace we have in Jesus. That is, it symbolizes the work Christ did for
our salvation (sign) and communicates the grace and mercy we have been given (seal) as a result of His death and resurrection.

Jesus, thy blood and righteousness
My beauty are, my glorious dress
’Midst flaming worlds, in these arrayed
With joy shall I lift up my head
Bold shall I stand in thy great day
Who against me a charge shall lay?
Fully absolved through these I am
From sin and fear, from guilt and shame
Jesus, the endless praise to thee
Whose boundless mercy hath for me
For me a full atonement made
An everlasting ransom paid
O let the dead now hear thy voice
Now bid thy banished ones rejoice
Their beauty this, their glorious dress
Jesus, thy blood and righteousness

The radiance of the Father before the dawn of time
You spoke and all creation came to be
The molecules and planets reveal your great design
And every one was made so we could see, so we could see
You are the glorious Christ, the greatest of all delights
Your power is unequaled, Your love beyond all heights
No greater sacrifice than when you laid down your life
We join the song of angels who praise you day and night
Glorious Christ
You left the air of heaven to breathe the dust of earth
And dwell among the outcast and the poor
You came to be forsaken and died to take our curse
So you could be our joy forevermore, forevermore
You’re seated now in heaven
Enthroned at God’s right hand
You’ve shattered death and freed us from our fears
And though we cannot see you you’re coming back again
And all will be made right when you appear
And all will be made right when you appear
Benediction
Because the hand of God’s wrath was raised against Jesus we now receive the hand of God’s blessing as we are sent out to live
our lives to the glory of God.
May the LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn His face toward you and give you His peace,
both now and forevermore. Amen.
Seasons of the Cross
Green: The colors of the various seasons of the Christian year express the mood or feeling of that season. Green
expresses the ongoing work of God and our participation in him and in his work. Though God’s work of creating is
finished, his work to sustain and grow his Kingdom is not. Particularly, in this season between Christmas and
Easter, we want to reflect on the life and work of Jesus, to study his person and to marvel at his glorious love all
with the aim of growing more in love with him and more like him every day.
Scripture Passage and Sermon Outline
Proclamation of God’s Word
Text: Luke 5:33-39 (ESV)
Title: The Joy of the Bridegroom
Teacher: Tim Rice
And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the
Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.” 34 And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while
the bridegroom is with them? 35 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then
they will fast in those days.” 36 He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and
puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the
old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it
will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. 38 But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. 39 And no
one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”

Intro: What has been the greatest experience of joy in your life?
THE POWER OF TRADITIONS
What defines what you value, how you live and why you rejoice?
THE JOY OF THE BRIDEGROOM
Why is it that joy is one of the essential effects that Jesus brings?
RESISTANCE OR EMBRACE?
If sin is trying to define or save yourself, what does it take to not perish (to be saved)? You must go with
what is new.
YOU CAN PRAY WITH US…
1. Worship the LORD as your Bridegroom. Praise Him, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that He is loving and devoted to
us as His people and that He imparts to us surpassing joy.
2. How have you lived trying to define your own life or seeking joy apart from the Lord? Confess your pride to Jesus,
asking Him to forgive you and to restore you to see how apart from Him there is no good thing.
3. Give thanks to Jesus for His work to rescue us and give us new life. Thank Him for bearing all the costs of our sin
and brokenness as our Savior, and for bringing us joy and new life as our Husband.
4. Who do you know that is joyless? Pray for them, asking the Lord to help them see the loss and waste of their life
apart from Jesus, and to work to impart to them the joy of His Grace in their life.
5. Ask the Holy Spirit to bear the fruit of joy in your life! Pray that the Spirit would help you to see your doom and
emptiness apart from Jesus and the miracle of His love and grace to save someone like you!
