Parshat Beshallach
“Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had firmly adjured the
Children of Israel, saying, G-d will surly remember you, and you shall
bring up my bones from here with you.”
At the pinnacle of the chaos that was the Exodus from Egypt, as the
Jewish people were gathering their belongings and preparing for their
freedom, Moses was focusing on something else entirely. Moses had
decided to go back and retrieve the bones of Joseph, to fulfill the promise
made to Joseph that he would be buried in Israel and not in Egypt.
