L;' Pinewood Gymnastics Club Ltd Newsletter October 2014 Issue 4 CLUB CLASS & KINDERGYM CLASSES: JENNY PARKINSON WOMEN’S ARTISTIC: NATALIE REEVE & KELLY SMITH Welcome to the Autumn term. Our award scheme weeks have taken place early this term to allow preparations for the Christmas Extravaganza show. If you have any enquiries about your child’s work then please speak to the lead coach. Details of the Christmas show will be announced soon so please keep an eye on the slide show and for posters. Some classes will be chosen to represent the club classes and Kindergym in the show. The Artistic Squad has enjoyed a busy summer. Jenna Arnot was invited to her first National Squad training following her results at the National Challenge Cup. Jenna worked very hard to impress the National coaches and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Groups 1-3 attended an Elite summer camp at the Welsh National Training Centre. For some gymnasts it was their first time away from home and at a training camp. All the gymnasts had a very fun week learning new skills, dances, making new friends and working with some of the top coaches in the country. Including Tracey Skirton coach to the Welsh National team who took bronze at the Commonwealth Games. Steven Price, coach to Gabby Jupp, 2013 National Champion. Beam expert Carol-Angela Orchard coach to Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs world beam medallist. The week was an invaluable experience for all the gymnasts. The Artistic Squad is now getting back into a busy term with lots of competitions on the Horizon. We have welcomed some new gymnasts this term. Isabel Tinsley, Helena Vinall, Nyah Reddyhough are new to the club. Millie Mihell, Josephine Laine, Sonia Runcianu, Priya Mosley, Sue-Ming Burford and Carmen Bailey have moved up from the Development Programme. We have also welcomed two new coaches, Poppy Burrow and Dawn Farrey. We are very excited to have new members on our team and hope they will all settle in well. Jenny and Zoe would like to wish good luck to Imogen Murray, Vicky Shenton and Becky Wiltshire who are starting university and welcome new coaches Steven Woods, Ethan Edwards, Sarah Overman and Olivia Johnson. We would like to remind parents that if your child is reception age or younger, we require an adult to remain on site to assist when needed and remind all parents that children under 14 will not be permitted to leave the building unless with an adult. Should we experience extreme weather this winter, details of class cancellations will be posted on our website as we may not have staff in the office. TUMBLING: VLADIMIR PODOBIN (vov) Pinewood had 13 tumblers competing at the British Championships in September. It was a massive achievement as this was the first time some of our younger tumblers had qualified for these championships, with 10 making the finals. This was also the first trial for the world age and world championships to take place in Florida in November. We had 5 BRITISH CHAMPIONS and 7 medals overall. Jack Williams, William Cowen, Dominic Mensah, Zach Middleton and Lucie Colebeck all came away as champions in their respective groups, whilst Alexander Cowen picked up a silver medal and Eleanor Head a bronze. Lucie was also awarded a master gymnast award for her services to gymnastics. Unfortunately Yasmin Taite sustained a nasty injury to her Achilles in the qualifying rounds. Tilly Nash also had to withdraw from the finals due to injury. We wish them both well for a speedy recovery. 2nd trials have recently taken place at Lilleshall for the world championships, announcements to be made by British gymnastics on Friday 3rd October, so good luck to Lucie, William, Zach, Dominic and Eleanor! The group has welcomed some new members recently, Sophie Clayton and Mallika Obrien, as well as some new coaches, Luke, Josh, Alice, Zoe S and Poppy. Emma and I are truly touched and are forever grateful for your understanding with the early stages of parenthood. The last two weeks have been a bit manic and I apologise for any inconvenience caused with my paternity leave. I am now back to work full time and I am ready and raring to go with the term ahead. Pinewood has already had a successful month and the Pinewood name is dominating score boards at every competition our elite gymnasts enter. Regional and National Titles have already been achieved and I wish our members in the Tumbling Squad the very best of luck for the upcoming Tumbling World Championships held in America next month. I would like to thank my Coaching team for their continual hard work and a massive thanks goes to the gymnasts for their dedication and enthusiasm to succeed. I would also like to thank all parents for their continual support which enables the club to maintain its professional reputation, Thank you! Over the summer it has been confirmed that Pinewood Gymnastics Club will no longer be continuing with its trampoline discipline. Our Board of Directors have been reviewing the clubs activities and our ever expanding program and after much consideration it was decided that by reducing the activities offered, we could hope to provide a better, more extensive service to our other elite disciplines. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the trampoline members the very best of luck for the future. I wish every gymnast the very best of luck for the term ahead and I look forward to working with you all over the Autumn/Winter season.
