Bereavement Notice It is with regret we commence this week’s newsletter with a bereavement notice and our flag at Half-mast. Des Carling club member and club President in 1997 passed away on Thursday morning 30th January 2015. New Golfing Hardware We change over to our new system next week and there may be some interruptions to the card printing and golfing system. This is to install the new Dot Golf system and change from the current Golf Autoscore system. The project entails new hardware including printers, scorecards, scanners and administrative procedures. It is anticipated that the changeover day will be Monday 2nd February 2015. As with any new system there is likely to be teething problems, so please be patient if we are not as operational as normal. Once we have all in place a full detailed summary of the system will be publicised. Twilight Golf The twilight season commences its 2nd term on Tuesday 3rd February. Get your team all geared up for the challenge. For full details please contact John Sheargold 312 4747. From the Ohope Men’s Vets The year has commenced and we have had two events to this date. Our first game of the year was at Whakatane played on the 5th January 2015. We had a field of 12 players of the 120 players that played on the day. Our Pennant team of Ron Smythe 37,Rick Morris 36 and Len Erceg came fourth on the day. Other scores were; Dennis Houltham 40, Andrew Campbell 37, Roy Dawson 36, Ray Wensor, Gavin Holford, Kevin Sowman 34, Peter Garside 31, Jack Hourigan 28 and Neil Kenny. One person standing by the raffle sheets was asked if he had a ticket, Ron dives into his pocket found $1 and took a number. Guess who won the 1st prize and a Big Meat Pack…….. On Monday the vets played at Omokoroa. The pennant team selector still can’t pick a team. The team of Brian Takurua 31, Denis Allan 39 and Graeme Withy 37 came in 13 points behind Kawerau with 120 points. Other scores on the day were; Kevin Stewart 39, Gavin Holford 42, Owen St George 37, Len Erceg 34 Paul Gibbs 33 and Kevin Sowman 30. Better luck next time boys……. Ohope International Golf Club - Gold Card Holder Discounts Our application to the NZ Government for inclusion in the Super Gold Discount web site has been approved and is now live. Gold Card holders now receive a 10% discount off the regular affiliated and non-affiliated green fees on presentation of their Gold Card. Specials also include discounted Monday evening meals, and $5 discount off the visitor rate for Electric Golf Carts. Mens news This Saturday 31st January is the 2nd round of the Summer Cup. 1st Round standings are; Wayne Coxhead 64, Dennis Allan 66, Kevin Steward 67, Gerard Geerlings, Ted Koia 68, Terry Bowe, Rob Vlaming 70, Gerard Mallen, John Sheargold 71, Doug Mara, Richard hayes, Arthur Tong, Don Krauss, Stan Crawshaw 72, Andrew Campbell 73, Kevin Lewis 74, Ross Everest, Ivan Read, David Bulley, Bruce Stuart 75. The Wednesday midweek men’s competition commences with a 9am tee off. Would all players please register with the starter from 8.30am, and prior to 8.50am. Mixed Competitions Sunday 1st Feb 2015 is the Eastern Bay Podiatry meat pack Sunday. 11am tee off Thursday Flight Centre Mixed open commences at Midday, until further notice. Ray is looking for as many players as possible to fulfil this season obligations. 2015 Whakatane West Rotary Charity Tournament After the successful tournament last year, this year’s event is lining up to be bigger and better. With proceeds going to the local St John’s Ambulance Brigade, the whole tournament will benefit the community in one way or another. Show your support by entering this worthy tournament. Remember for that one great shot, you may be driving home in the new Mazda 2 GLX model. Great prizes, great fun all for a great cause. Refer to the poster which follows for all the details. The café will open for a buffet dinner after the conclusion of all the prize giving. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase all day.
