Newsletter
Date: 30th January 2015
Acting Headteacher: Mrs. J Potts
Issue: 4
Once again we have been able to enjoy the snow this week. I hope all your journeys to and from school have not
been too treacherous.
It has been another busy week at Woodlands Primary School. On Tuesday our year 3 pupils went to Magna to
learn about forces and magnets which ties in to their topic for this half term. The children’s behaviour was superb
throughout the whole day and I know they all had a great time - including Commando Joe’s bear!
It has been a fantastic week to celebrate sport. After winning a competition last Friday the year 5/6 athletics team
have qualified for the Doncaster finals. The team are competing at Dearne Valley as this newsletter goes to print.
I will look forward to reporting on the results next week.
In addition to this, our year 5/6 football team competed at a tournament on Tuesday evening at The Keepmoat
Stadium. There were 36 Schools in the competition. I felt so proud to stand alongside Mr Culshaw, Mrs
Moran And Mr Beech to cheer on the boys. Every player showed great enthusiasm and pride at representing
Woodlands. It was so unfortunate that the overall winners were decided by a penalty shoot out and our boys just
lost out to Kirk Sandall. Despite this they displayed great sportsmanship right to the end. Unfortunately I had no
finger nails left by the end of the evening! Well done boys.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to let you all know that Mrs Arjemandfar will be leaving Woodlands
Primary School at the end of this half term. Mrs Arjemandfar has worked at Woodlands for the last three years. I
know she will be very much missed but I am sure you will all join me in wishing her all the very best as she starts
a new adventure in her life.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Potts
Well Done to our Achievers this week.

Attendance
We are delighted to see that our attendance data at Woodlands is showing an improving
picture. This week our overall attendance has is 94.8% This is excellent compared to
week ending 19th December when the attendance was 86.6%
Doncaster Local Authority set us a target of reaching 97% attendance each week. So
you can see we are heading in the right direction.
Please ensure your children are on time. The gates are locked at 8.30. If children arrive
after this time they must report to the main office. If children are persistently late it will
affect their learning and it also disrupts the rest of the class. Please support us in ensuring your children come to school on time. Thank you.
BRITISH VALUES
The new national curriculum promotes the learning of British values. Although many of
these values are embedded throughout the culture and ethos at Woodlands Primary
School, we are currently bringing them to our children’s attention during whole school
assembly on Mondays.
Do you know what the British values are?
I
wonder if your children can tell you.
There are five to ask your children about. Next week I will
provide you with an overview of each so you can monitor how
well your children are learning about these.
VALENTINES DISCO
On Thursday 12th February the Friends of Woodlands Primary School have
organised a valentines disco for all our Key Stage 2 pupils. This will take
place in the Key Stage 2 hall straight after school. It will be £1 entry and
refreshments will be on sale during the disco. The children will need to bring
their disco clothes in a labelled bag and the teachers will supervise the
children getting changed.
I look forward to a disco dance!
