Dear Parents, Caregivers and Children
Kia ora koutou
Thank you for all your support for our book character dress up day. There was a great variety of costumes
and such a lot of effort put in. It was such a fun week. Make sure you check out our banners in the hall.
Each teacher led their Whanau group to create something representing a favourite book. Well done to all
the students for the amazing outcomes.
Only one more sleep until the DISCO! I know
there’s excitement building up to this exciting
annual event. Sadly I can’t make it this year as I
have another important engagement – a farewell
function for a colleague of 20+ years, Dennis
Thompson, Principal of Lyall Bay School. I’m
looking forward to hearing about all the fun!
Only a week until our parent get-together talking
about what’s important at HVS. I’m hoping lots of
you will take the time to sign up and join in this
important discussion helping us to frame our
future.
It is with sadness that I announce the resignation
of Claire Rowat from Houghton Valley School. As you know, Claire was granted a year’s leave to teach
overseas. She has decided to pursue this for longer and as such won’t be returning to New Zealand at this
stage. We really appreciated the wonderful contribution Claire made here and wish her well with her
continued
adventures.
Congratulations are in order as we announce that Lizzy Luman, Ti Kouka teacher, is taking a year’s
maternity leave in 2015. We are very happy for Lizzy, Brett and Darcy as they welcome their new family
member. We will be advertising both of these positions soon.
Nga mihi nui

You may have noticed track and throwing sectors on the bottom field, yes it’s that time of year already- Athletics. Both
the Junior and Senior syndicates are starting their teaching of Athletics next week. The children will be Sprinting, High
Jumping, Long Jumping, Vortex Throwing, Quoit Throwing and having heaps of fun!

most out of their learning.

Term Four HVS Floorball
HVS will be entering 5-6 teams in next terms Floorball After School League -Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. New players of all
abilities are welcome to join us! Games are held at the ASB Sports Centre, Tuesdays between 4-6pm.
Sign-up sheets for all players (new and returning) are on the sports notice board - next to the school office.
New players please take a registration form and get a parent to fill it out and
hand back into the school office. Game fees will be $30 for the season, plus a
fee for practices ($15-20).
Email: Billie-Jo - [email protected] if you need any more information.
HVS jog club is ready to run!
There has been heaps of interest from kids keen to go for a bit of a run before
school. Andrew (Anna and Rowan’s dad) will be helping Maree with the first run
this Friday. They will leave from outside the library at 8.15am but please come
a little bit earlier for a bit of a warm up and safety talk beforehand. If it is
raining, we will have to cancel (while kids generally love running in the rain teachers won’t appreciate wet kids in their
classes). Remember to wear suitable shoes. Maree’s work hours have changed so she can probably only lead this
group every second Friday now, so we would be grateful for any other adults who can help out.
Dates to Diary for Term Three
• Tuesday 16 September Interzone Swimming WRAC
• Monday 22 September Winter Sports Festival Year 5/6 ASB Centre
If you take any stories or photos at sports-related events that we can use in the newsletters and are happy to share
them with everyone else, please e-mail me on [email protected].
