Termly Newsletter - Micklefield School

Friends of Micklefield Newsletter – September 2014
Dear Parents
Welcome back to the start of a new school year. I hope you have enjoyed a lovely
summer holiday and your children are happy and excited to be back at school.
I am Kate Walker, the new Chair of the FOM Committee. I have been a Micklefield
parent for nearly 5 years and I have been involved in the FOM for at least 3 of those
years.
I would like to start by saying a huge thank you and well done to Lisa Pierre and
Soulla Kyriacou for their phenomenal work over the last two years, as Joint Chairs of
the FOM.
The main events last term were the Circus Skills Day and the Summer Ball. The whole
school participated in the Circus Skills day in May, even some of the teachers! This
appeared to be a very successful day, with all ages learning new skills and having lots
of fun while they did so. Year 6 pupils went first and then very ably assisted the other
classes to really get to grips with the different equipment available.
The Summer Ball was held at Kingswood Gold Club. The original date and venue had to
be changed as it had been severely flooded and closed for refurbishment. This did not
stop the FOM Committee though and a great event was enjoyed by all who attended.
The amount raised through the events held in the last school year are still being
prepared for auditing, and will be available to see in details at the FOM AGM which will
be arranged in the near future. All parents are actively encouraged to attend this event,
so you can see for yourselves what funds are raised and where they are spent.
However, we are very pleased and proud to say £9K off the funds raised this year have
bought the new projector and (huge) screen in the Gym, which among many other uses
in school, will enable the FOM to organise Movie Evenings for the children. We also
donated £5000 to the refurbishment of the Pavilion. I am sure those of you that knew it
before its facelift, will agree it is greatly improved. Funds from the 2nd Hand Uniform
sales of previous years, were also donated this year, and have provided the school with
£1000 worth of Lego to start a Lego Club, which was a proposal put forward by the
pupils via the School Council.
Many thanks for all your support for these, and the other events through the year. The
funds we raise really do make a difference to the school experience for our children,
and we have great fun along the way! We look forward to your ongoing support and
enjoyment for the year to come.
