DC Report
Hi Everyone,
Well it’s hard to believe it's already September again, before we know it'll be Christmas. Spring is here, I've
noticed quite a few horses and ponies been a little bit cheeky the last couple weeks. So be careful, doesn't
matter how quiet they are sometimes, that green grass can turn ponies and horses into little monsters. Good
time to check the diet of your horse for this time of the year.
August Rally was at Ayr Hill grounds, thank you to Debbie Lovett for allowing us to hire the ground. Special
thank you to all our instructors Kathy, Erica, Paula, Jill and Rachael. Many thanks to Nikki and Jill plus Scott on
the barbecue for a great lunch. Can't forget Nanna for our delicious cakes.
Congratulations to some of our members that receive their certificates. For E certificate we have Tegan and
Meg. And for D certificate we have Maddi G, Shanice, Paige and Kai. WELL DONE!
Next rally September at Ayr Hill, thank you to Nicci for organising Adam Wootten to come and teach for us.
Riders will have a blast jumping with Adam. Lunch will be the $5.00 per person deal. Members to bring work
books with them on the rally day. If you do not have one please send me a message to let me know. Work
books all $15.00. Plus what book you are up to. PCAV have brought out workbooks for the little ones they are
$15.00 as well. Which I've had a look at and the kids would love them.
At the next rally we have an hour in the morning for all the parents with Kathy on gear checking, which
will come in handy for our dressage day or any other comps we have. Parents with little tiny tots group will
not be riding their first session will be me doing theory.
Wow! What great news we have our new grounds at Oakwood riding school! It's sad to leave Akoonah Park
but we need to move on with the times and safety comes first. Will keep you up to date on which month we
will be starting at Oakwood. We do have a big job in cleaning out the old clubrooms so please anyone that
has any spare time or is running to the tip could help out will be MUCH appreciated. Please let me know. Up
coming events for club members and family.

October 19th: Berwick PC Dressage day

Senior Rally Report
August Rally Report
By Jorja Growcott
Hey all,
Last rally was beautiful weather and a great day! We had instructors Erica, Rachel, Kathy, Jill and
Paula. First lessons of the day were dressage and there were 5 groups spread throughout the Ayr
Hill arenas.
I was in Erica’s group and we had the indoor all to ourselves. We did many circle workouts and
leg yielding exercises. I found this lesson one of the best dressage lessons I have had as I think
Erica is a great instructor with good techniques and teaching skills. A big well done to Lauren
though, I know that that lesson was a bit of a challenge for you but you handled it extremely
well. Good job!
The next lessons were poles, little jumps and D and E certificate testing. Kathy tested the D
certificate riders and Paula tested Meg and Tegan for their E certificate, whilst the other
instructors did poles and small jumps. I was in Rachel’s Group and we did lots of pole work to do
with strides and circles. These were great exercises and found that they benefitted everyone.
After lunch Rachel and Kathy took lessons for jumping and Paula did games. Again, I was in
Rachel’s group and we worked on grid techniques with poles, and spacing between related
fences.
Overall I had a wonderful rally and thought that it was heaps of fun. I am definitely looking
forward to the next rally and cant wait for the Dressage day coming up!!!!
Cheers,
Jorja Growcott

West Gippsland Zone AGM
The Austral Hotel – Korumburra
17th September, 2014

Mum & I attended the 2014 WGZ AGM on Wednesday night, and we had a blast!!! Dinner was served at 7:30pm with the
meeting commencing shortly after. A few things mentioned are below, and we finished up around 9. So yes it was a school
night, and yes it was a little bit of a drive…but every time I leave a WGZ meeting I always say I’M SO GLAD I WENT. I would really
like to see others making the effort to get to these meetings, we are actually part of something much bigger than just a club, the
zone as a whole.
Laurie Cruise is stepping down from the Zone President’s role – he has contributed to the zone for over 20 years. He mentioned
how proud he was to be a part of WGZ, as we are a front-runner for change and innovation. The zone series is so successful,
other zones are trying to replicate the WGZ series. Laurie was actually a member of Berwick PC and was awarded the prestigious
Award of Merit during his time with us. In fact, my mum Lexi used to ride with him many moons ago at Berwick! Laurie is taking
over from Darrelyn as Zone Representative. Darrelyn, our Zone Representative of 10 years, has been asked to lead a
Governance project for Pony Club Australia.
It was mentioned that the whole WGZ had a lack of presence at the Prince Phillip Interzone Games Challenge. This is something
we should start attending as a club. Also the WGZ Games clinic next year. It was also mentioned that any and all coaches need
to be registered with PCA from now otherwise they are not insured. Mary Longden clinic (senior riders) in November – Saturday
afternoon, this is the last one that’s funded so get along to it!
The way the WGZ committee speak about our zone, clubs, parents and riders is full of pride and continuous acknowledgements,
as well as encouragement and how much they appreciate what we do. They mentioned that whenever you go out and
compete, you are noticed. Word does get back to the club and the zone, and it is always positive.
Jess Alderson from Cockatoo PC is the President of the West Gippsland Zone Junior Committee. Senior riders contributing back
into the club. Everyone like the facebook page, everybody’s welcome to come to meetings, both junior and senior riders. Vicki
Connely (Kneebone) received life membership for her many years contribution to the zone as she is now moving on to PCA.
How you can be recognized for the award of merit:
• 90-100% attendance
• Contributing outside rallies
• Volunteering at fundraisers
• Approachable
• A mentor to younger riders and their peers

Laurie Cruise described the involvement of himself and his team of volunteers at WGZ by:
“We came for our children, and stayed for the friendships”
