VFW MEMORIAL POST NO. 3199
February 24, 2014
Volume 14, Issue 2
Commander’s message…
Greetings to all:
Well our new year has arrived and we continue to improve our great post 3199. All our Breakfast and
Friday night dinners have been very successful. Great job by all that helped make these functions increasingly better. Pat and Donna are raising money to replace our old bar stools. There are a couple of them
already in the Canteen. Take a look at them. They contain Military Branch Logo’s. And if you’re interested
in donating one to the Post, call Pat for more information.
We had a very successful function on February 10th. We had a special event at our park for the 6th anniversary of the Carpenter Road Vet Center. We had free food donated and cooked by Bill Goulart. There
also was a DJ. Awards were given out by both the Vet Center and Congressman Denham’s Representatives Mike Anderson and Ricky Pal. The Vet Center is looking forward to doing more functions at our Post.
We have completed the fundraiser for the VA Clinic on Oakdale road and the last order of bricks has
been placed. They should be laid sometime near the end of March. There will be no further acceptance for
orders. There are plans in the works for another similar fundraiser for our Post. More information will be
made available as soon as we can publish the details.
To all our Comrades, our membership is at approximately 96% and we still need to bring our membership up. We still have 87 unpaid members and have until June 30th to bring our membership to 100%. (We
need just 16 new members to bring us to 100%.) I hope all the comrades will help to get these new members. Don’t forget that the annual dues are now $40.00 per year.
Lastly, don’t forget to say prayers for our young men and women serving overseas and say a prayer for
our great Post 3199.
God bless America
Respectfully,
Ron Richter, Commander
Ladies Auxiliary Corner
Hello to all,
For those of you that did not hear, we lost a member of our auxiliary, Helen Casey on February 2, 2014. She
has been a member for over 53 years. She will be dearly missed. Yes, our Christmas dinner was a success! Thank
you to Karen Dick and all her helpers for a job well done! The Soup Contest on January 25, 2014 was a fun event.
1st Place was won by Duanne McKay for her clam chowder, 2nd Place went to Kris Berns for her minestrone and 3rd
Place to Pat Rosales for her chicken and noodle soup and we can’t forget Ken Headrick who won the booby prize for
his clam chowder. All the soups were awesome. We just hope that next time we feature this event we will have a
bigger turnout. Our next event that will be coming up is our Easter Egg Hunt on April 19, 2014. I also have some
good news. I have talked to a person that was involved in setting up and painting the picnic tables and benches when
this Post was built and she is willing to help us get them back into good shape. We are hoping to have this done by
the end of March. A MOMENT FOR YOU – There is so much power in NOW. Yesterday prepared you. Tomorrow
inspires you. But today is where your experience and expectations come together. Today is where you make decisions. Today is where you act. Today is really where your dreams do what they’re meant to do: begin to come true!
God Bless you all!
Sandi Crews, President
Ladies Auxiliary
From the Quartermaster’s Corner:
Hello to all 3199 Post members and its women’s and men’s Aux.
I’d like to start this with a shout out to our chefs Ken Reeves and Mike French with the
great support of their wife’s Kris and Amy with their kids and close friends, GREAT JOB to you all!!!!!
Mike is our new kitchen chairman and is doing a great job! Ken has gone back to chef school to fine tune
and increase his abilities to add to their already great dinners and awesome breakfast and that’s a BIG contribution in keeping this post going. We have gotten a couple of bar stools already donated to the post, which I
think are awesome! We also had a tamale fund raiser which raised $460.00 towards the purchase of more
bar stools. I would like to thank the tamale crew Mama Lupe, Kris Berns, Lisa Carlson, Mary Brown, Andrea, Elaine, Mary, Alyssa, Helen, Kathy and Al and Donna for all their donations and help to all those who
purchased Tamales remember there’s always room for improvement. We have had a great response with
people buying and donating the bar stools. If anyone would like to buy a stool with your choice of branch
of service with a free dedication on the back or would like to contribute towards a purchase of one feel to
contact me at 209-450-0299. If you have ideas for a project or fund raisers please let us know we have to
make things happen.
Respectfully,
Pat Rosales, Army Strong
Quartermaster
From the Chaplains Corner:
Hey, Hey, Hey—Spring is in the air! (Just wish I had more in my legs!) Oh well, Father time
doesn't slow down, but he sure know how to “slow” us down!!!
Time Was...Mark Time...Time Out….Make Time (everyone’s favorite) whoo-hoo! Anyway,
time to get on with this newsletter!
I haven't heard an “bad" news from those on the mend, so I’m assuming that’s good. Please keep them in
your thoughts and prayers. I know it’s appreciated.
Barbara Peck is planning a “Celebration of Life” in honor of Warren on Saturday, 8 March at 1:00 P.M.,
at our Post Memorial Hall. It’s sure to be a good time for all, so bring a dish and come join the tribute to one
of our own!!
The “Soup Fest” was a very pleasant surprise! Sandi Crews was quite the organizer, and it came off as an
entertaining, and fun experience. All the soups were outstanding and there were really no losers (except one,
and I don’t want to go there). Anyway, I am seriously looking forward to the next one! Lot’s of nice silent
auction prizes too and the company made for a warm, friendly atmosphere. Very enjoyable! So to those who
didn't make it—NO SOUP FOR YOU!! - Maybe next time, huh? Is it soup yet?!!! Gotta Go…
“Just a Thought”
The “Life Force” that keeps
the Body from rotting, is the Mind!
We are only limited, by our Imagination!!
Imagine that……….
Sincerely,
Ken W. Headrick USMC
In Memory of our Dear Friend Helen Casey
Helen was married to Marion Casey on May 29, 1960. They were married for 41 years. She was
survived by her daughter Connie Ainsworth, brother, Thomas Mille and her grandchildren Nicole, Shane
and 7 great grandchildren.
Helen is a 53 year life time member of Modesto Auxiliary #3199 she has
held many offices in the Auxiliary over the years including being Auxiliary
President for five years. She was the Kitchen Chairman for many years. Helen
was always quick to volunteer in what ever project the Post and Auxiliary took
on. She could be seen in the kitchen cooking or washing dishes and serving our
guest. As an Auxiliary member she was total devoted to the organization and all
members. She always had a smile on her face. If you had the opportunity to
work side by side with her you would certainly feel her joy.
One of her passions was donating Blood; up to the time that she became
ill. She has donated over 10 gallons of blood. That is how much she cared for
members and the community. Her other passion was being the Auxiliary Historian which she did for over ten years. During this time there wasn’t an event that she missed so that she
could record the Auxiliary’s history for future generations. Helen made the most beautiful albums for me
and the all the Past Presidents.
She was also a mentor and devoted friend to me, but to Kaye Wengert, Sharon Hensley, and Eleanor Thorpe my heart goes out to each of you for the loss of your best friend and to each and every one of us
that were her friends and family members. We all loved Helen and she will be missed by all that knew her.
Love, Lisa Addi

Hello Comrades and Auxiliaries!!!
Please send me your email address, so we can get the newsletter to you faster than the Post
Office! Well maybe one day faster! Also, commander, president’s, secretaries... during your
next meeting, please ask your members if they are receiving the newsletter, if they haven’t
been, get their information and send it to me please. Auxiliaries, if you have a new member, I
probably don’t have their information whether they attend the meetings or not, please look at
your membership list.
Also, for all members…..do you have an article or idea for the newsletter or are you having a
fundraiser coming up and would like to spread the word? Send me the information!!! Remember to send it in early enough. Next newsletter is for May and June!!! Send it to Donna at
“[email protected]” or call me 209-505-0182.
Have you seen the new bar stools?! American Chairs is offering us
free shipping if we order 14 or more! Pat is doing a fantastic job and
has received money for 16 of the bar stools already! If you donate a
bar stool, we will put your name on the back, which is free as well.
Also, we are trying to replace the tables with the branch of services
emblem on them as well.
