Many subjects have been addressed and have been rectified. The actions taken by the officers, after an open meeting of the membership, have had a positive effect on our post and we will continue to move forward. We have made a firm commitment to our members to provide a friendly environment that is clean, bartenders that are polite and prices are reasonable. Our post has been very important in the initiation of the first Veterans Court in LaPorte County. Many hours as well as meetings have resulted in an extremely powerful asset for our returning veterans. As your commander, I have accepted the position of Lead Mentor. I am proud to be a part of this entire program and have already seen great results for our veterans. There has been a change in the Quarter Masters position. Paul Ewing is once again in the position and we are all thankful for his hard work and dedication to our post. Our Friday night fish fries have continued to be very successful. Our Ladies Auxiliary does a great job of keeping the orders rolling and the men are nonstop in front of the grill. A tremendous THANK YOU to all that make this a great success, washing dishes, cleaning tables and taking out the garbage is also a big part of the effort. A special thank you to past Commander, Charles Williams, for stepping up when we were in drastic need of a cook at our last fish fry. As winter approaches, we are also going to provide a much safer parking lot. We cannot continue to have family events or any event without providing safe parking and safe departure. Thank you to Clark and Ray who brought their equipment down to level off the mound of concrete that was not helping matters. I firmly believe that with proper plowing and salting, it will be much better than in years past. In closing, please continue to support our post. Never hesitate to call me at 219/713-4558 or talk with me at the post about ANY issue(s) that you may feel needs to be addressed. This post does not belong to me, it belongs to all of us. I want to thank the ladies that have chairmanships this year and all our workers for the banquets. This has been a busy time and everyone is needed to make this Auxiliary what it is. One person does not make the Auxiliary. On August 8 & 9, I attended the School of Instruction in Indianapolis. The session was very informative and enlightening on new ways to create activity for the different chairmanships. Indiana Day at the National Home is on September 28th. The Auxiliary is collecting soft Heart Pillows. If anyone is crafty and would like to make some heart pillows, please have them at the Post on Saturday, October 25th. The President’s Special Project this year is collecting money for renovating the Commandant’s Home at Indiana Veteran’s Home. Big Ten Conference is being held in Indianapolis on October 17, 18 and 19, 2014. The National President’s visit will immediately follow the Big Ten Conference. If you have not paid your 2015 membership dues, please send your $20.00 to Barb Cavin. If you are a life member, please send your $5.00 to Barb to cover your cancer insurance. Remember your veteran gave you the ability to belong to this organization. The Third District President, Judy Jones and the District Vice President, Vickie Burger, made their inspection visit of our Auxiliary on September 3, 2014. We are proud to announce that we passed inspection with flying colors. The District President was presented with a gift from our Auxiliary. The Auxiliary has made donations of $175.00 to the National Home; $50.00 to the Little League VFW team; $50.00 to Read LaPorte County; and $50.00 to Indiana Veteran’s Home to be presented at Indiana Day at IVH on October 5th. The next Third District Auxiliary meeting will be on Sunday, October 12th, at South Bend #9820 at 1:30 Central time. Please keep track of cost of items donated, hours donated, mileage on community service and serving out veterans. Write down on paper and put in Auxiliary mail box and we will see that it gets to the correct chairwoman. Thank you for donating your time to serve our veterans. Please come down on Saturday afternoons and support our lunches served by the Auxiliary. Come down on the 4th Friday of each month for our Fish Fry. Come down on the 1st Monday of each month for Monday night dinner. Or just come down for the drawings on Saturday. Would love to see and visit with you. For those who are ill, a speedy recovery; for those who have lost a loved one, our prayers are with you and if you need encouragement, God is watching over you.
