PRAYER CALENDAR November 2014 This Prayer Calendar is provided to encourage us to pray for one another within the fellowship of Affinity. Information is provided each month by our Partners, Associates and Churches. If you wish information for prayer to be included in the Prayer Calendar please send it to us at least 10 days before the end of the month in which you would like it to appear. 1 Today is the Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church promoted by Barnabas Fund. Please focus today especially on prayer for the millions of Christians around the world, in over 100 countries, who face persecution, discrimination or hostility. The prayer request is often not that the Lord should take away the persecution but that the Church should stand firm as a witness and a light to the world. For more information please go to their website: http://barnabasfund.org 2 3 4 5 6 7 The Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches (EFCC) hold their Ministers’ Prayer Conference at Willersley Castle from November 3-6, with main speaker Bill Bygroves. Pray for a good time of fellowship and seeking the Lord together. Over 400 church leaders will be gathering at the FIEC’s Leaders’ Conference from 3 to 6 November. The theme of this year’s conference is In_Dependence – as leaders of Independent churches we remain dependent on God and on each other. Please pray that those attending will be both encouraged and challenged by the conference. ChristChurch Harpenden starts a Christianity Explored course on 5 November. Please pray for people to be attracted to the person of Jesus and convicted of their need for forgiveness and salvation. On Saturday 8 November Crosslinks is running a Mission Day Conference in Lichfield to equip local churches for God's mission locally and globally (www.crosslinks.org/events/crosslinks-mission-dayconference). Please pray that they would serve churches well with the result being that God’s mission is promoted. AECW ask us to pray for special meetings being organised by Calvary Church, Ogmore Vale on 7 and 8 November at which Dr Joseph Ton will speak. His subject is "A vision of God - the most radical change factor". The meetings will be held at WEST in Bridgend. This will take place at Portree Free Church (Continuing) at 7.00pm (DV). The Rev A. James MacInnes, minister at Lochalsh and Strath will preach and preside; Rev MAN Macleod, Snizort, to address the new minister, and Rev Richard Ross, Interim-Moderator, to address the Congregation. Please pray for the new minister and his congregation as they serve the Lord together in the days ahead. 8 Daylight Christian Prison Trust give thanks that God has provided for their needs and pray that he will continue to do so. They are very thankful that during October they have been given opportunities in two new prisons, so please pray that these opportunities would be blessed. 9 The Yorkshire Gospel Partnership are holding a day event on Thursday 13 November with Os Guinness speaking on: Gospel People; Confident living in dark times. The meeting is at the Guildhall, York, from 10.00am – 3:30pm. (Cost £10, book online at http://www.ygp.org.uk) Please pray for all involved that the Lord would encourage many hearts in the Word of God and fellowship together. 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Grace Baptist Partnership would value prayer for the ongoing efforts to train leaders and plant a new church in Vienna, Austria. Pray especially for Barry King as he visits Vienna this month. Blenheim Free Church, Maidenhead, give thanks that there was a good response from families in the local community to their Messy Church on Sunday afternoons. Pray that contacts made will result in a growing interest in the gospel. Lodge Road Church Centre, Birmingham, ask us to please pray for L and his carer from a local hospital, who came to their service recently. They pray that they can introduce them to the loving God they serve. Peterhead Congregational Church give thanks for plans for additional work with children on a weekly basis and also for a monthly project to bring families of all ages together under Christ. Pray that sufficient volunteers will come forth and pray for the advancement of the Kingdom. Please pray for The Good Book Company working together with The Gospel Coalition in the US to create a curriculum for American churches which puts the gospel at the very heart of everything they do as churches and individuals. Please pray for us as we work together on the project and that the resource would be a huge blessing to those who use it. Please pray for new ReachAcross member ‘Sara’ who is in the process of leaving her job to become a full-time mission worker to Muslims on the south coast. Pray that God will be preparing her in every area for this new life. Pray especially that she will raise the prayer and finance to enable her to begin service this autumn. Thank God for her obedience to his call. On Wednesday 19 November Christian leaders are invited to gather in Bridgend, South Wales to continue a regular meeting to pray for revival that began over 45 years ago. The meeting is from 9.30am-midday at the Evangelical Movement of Wales offices, Waterton Cross Business Park, South Road, Bridgend, CF31 3UL. For more information, contact Ian Parry (07956895818 or [email protected]). 17 18 19 20 Mike Frith of OSCAR is leading a ‘Serving as Senders’ evening at Malpas Road Evangelical Church in Newport this Wednesday, 19 November. Pray for an encouraging evening for the church as they learn together with Mike. Please pray for UBM as they plan for 2015 missions. Before the year end the dates and destinations will be decided. It is planned to increase our weeks slightly – but that means more team members will be needed. The International Presbyterian Church (IPC) asks us to pray for their missionary AM, working with his family among Pakistanis in High Wycombe, and also for their church plants in Ilford and Shepherds Bush, London. Shrewsbury Evangelical Church are continuing to seek the Lord for a new pastor following their previous pastor’s leaving in the summer. Pray for love and unity to continue amongst them as they search for a new man. Pray in particular for guidance for their elders as they arrange for visiting preachers to minister to the fellowship. 21 22 23 24 25 The Free Church of Scotland ask us to pray for Solas, who tomorrow are holding their ‘Out of the Silent Church’ seminar on ‘Is Christianity Past Its Sell-By Date.’ Pray that a good number will attend and that they will be well equipped to show the world the eternal relevancy of the Bible. True Freedom Trust ask us to please pray for the possible appointment of three new trustees over the coming months, which will help to strengthen their governance. Wales Evangelical School of Theology (WEST) have just launched UP: The Union Podcast – short, friendly chats with theologians about things that matter. Each edition is just a few minutes' long to make it easier to listen to in spare moments of the day. Pray that many people will access this facility and grow in theological understanding as a result. Trinity International Presbyterian Church, York are thinking about appointing new elders to help with the leadership of the church. Please pray for the whole church as they consider whom to put forward and for the presbytery who will be assessing candidates for them. Gospel for Asia ask us to pray for Women's Fellowship: reaching out to Asia's most unreached group – women. Today, women who have been abused, degraded and misled – by their culture, their families and even their own husbands – are growing in the Lord and seeing his love more fully. Through Women’s Fellowship, many women all across South Asia are memorising Scripture, praying, reaching out and fellowshipping with other believers. Their lives are changing as they gather each week in their Women’s Fellowship groups. 26 Calvary Mission (Republic of Ireland) ask us to pray for the church plant in Ballina: Give thanks for three years of Sunday meetings and for a growing awareness of the church in the town. Pray for growth in numbers and for maturity in the church. Pray for wisdom and patience for the team as they seek to bring God's word into people's lives. Pray that they would see it taking root and bearing fruit. 27 28 29 30 UFM ask for prayer that as the literature goes out advertising their Summer Team opportunities for next year, that many will be challenged to be involved. Emmanuel Church Canterbury meets mainly at present in a school, and has identified the need for a permanent base, perhaps in the Northgate area of the city. Prayer is sought for the provision of a property, whether rented or purchased, which could provide adequate space for at least an office, small group meetings and community outreach activities. Pray for Brian Edwards, speaking today at a youth event at Sanderstead Evangelical Church (10.00am-4.00pm). The Association of Grace Baptist Churches (South East) asks for prayer for the Ebbsfleet church plant. As the new houses continue to be built and sold they are praying and planning for the Lord to assemble a team to be part of the house-based church plant.
