On-Line Food Ordering
We have moved to online food ordering for our lunch program. As of now we can NO LONGER accept
paper orders as we cannot guarantee they will be entered in the system. We have also moved to ordering
for a 2 week period at a time. As of now all orders we have been given have been placed on line, so we
are asking all parents to check their orders and contact us with any problems. If you have not ordered for
next week, please send your order to the school as soon as possible so we can get these orders in the
system, as it is very time consuming. Please email Debbie Miles ([email protected]) or Chris Mears
([email protected]) with this information. Please log on and check your account and confirm
that your account balance is correct. The next deadline for online food orders for the 2 week period is
February 17th. Thank you for your support and positive comments as we move to this new system.
Ordering information and steps can be found on our home page at www.edu.pe.ca/springpark
Pink Shirt Day / Stop Bulling
Please mark February 26 on your calendar for Pink Shirt Day. This day is recognized as Anti-Bullying
day across the Island.
Raising awareness about the issue of bullying in schools, communities and workplaces has become a
serious and important social issue over the last number of years. Pink Shirt Day was born in 2007 when a
grade 9 boy from Nova Scotia was bullied on the first day of high school because he was wearing a pink
shirt. Two fellow students Travis Price and David Shepherd, decided to take action and bought fifty pink
shirts and handed them out the next day to their fellow students. As word spread about what they were
doing and why, half the school wore pink shirts in support the next day.
Pink T-shirts for available for purchase at Source for Sports locations on the Island. Proceeds from shirt
sales will benefit anti-bullying programs at Boys and Girls Clubs in Charlottetown, Summerside, and
Wellington. If your child has a pink shirt already, feel free to have them wear the one they have.
Wear Pink and Stand Up to Stop Bullying!!
Home & School News
The Spring Park Home and School Association will host a luncheon for school staff to mark Staff
Appreciation Week. This event is slated to take place on Wednesday, February 12th. We are in need of
some parent volunteers to assist with classroom and playground duty on this day. Volunteers are required
from about 11am to 12pm. If you are able to assist, please send your name to Hayley Myers at
[email protected] or Jennifer MacLeod at [email protected]. Staff Appreciation Week
is about showing our school staff how much we appreciate everything they do for our students throughout
the year. If you can, please consider volunteering some time to help us out! To Spring Park School staff
we say, “Thank you, and we appreciate you!"

February is considered as Black History month. Black history is about stories, experiences and
accomplishments of people of African origin. Black History actually began in ancient times in Africa; not
with slavery as many people may tend to think, but with African Kings and Queens from ancient African
kingdoms and civilizations. Eventually these people moved around the Globe and some came to Canada.
There are countless men and women of African ancestry who have contributed to making Canada the
country it is today but they often go unrecognized. Ms Fanning has offered to go around to classes that
she is invited to tell about some of these stories and contributions. Many of the stories are about Nelson
Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Viola Desmond. The responses from the
classes I have been in have been quite remarkable.
