Lenten Service Project
In keeping with our Lenten service projects of
past years, this year we will be supporting the
Sleeping Children Around the World
organization. We will be raising money to
purchase bedkits for children in developing
countries. Thank you to Ms. Demaiter and the
grade 6 class for taking the leadership in this
important school event! They will be sending
home more information throughout Lent and
helping us in our Lenten journey of growing in
faith, prayer and charity.
2014-2015 YEARBOOK!!!!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Again this year, we will be preparing and selling a 2014-2015 Yearbook which will include
class pictures, graduation photos and candid shots of the students and staff involved in
activities throughout the year.
Jostens is facilitating this production along with Mrs. Willemsen and a committee of
students. We expect that this project will meet with the same success and enthusiasm
that was experienced in last year’s edition.
We are now taking orders for the purchase of this year’s edition. The cost per copy is
$23.00 for a coloured edition. We do need your order and payment submitted together.
Cash or a cheque made payable to Georges Vanier Catholic School should be received
by the school by February 27th.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
Yours in Catholic Education,
Mrs. Tina MacCauley-Gray

Allergy – Important Reminder
Being a nut-free school, we strive not only to provide products that are nut-free but also an atmosphere that
ensures our students feel safe and secure at school, especially our students who have life-threatening allergies to
nut products. Recently, certain products that are made from soy products have been directing advertising
campaigns to school communities, with the intent being to market their products as safe and viable options for
school lunches. While these products are certainly nut-free, they do however, resemble peanut butter so closely
that it is virtually impossible to distinguish between a peanut butter sandwich and a sandwich made from a ‘nut-free’
alternative. As children with allergies are highly sensitive to what is being eaten around them, we feel, as a school
community, that the presence of these products may possibly create unnecessary anxiety.
We appreciate, as always, parents’ concern for the safety and well-being of all children in the school. For more
information on providing healthy lunches, with nut-free alternatives, please contact the local health unit, or visit the
Health Unit’s website at www.hpechu.on.ca
