Flag Day honors stars and stripes
By KeAnna Whisenhunt &
Kristian Jaime
There are few things as iconic
as the familiar red, white and
blue stars and stripes of the
American flag, and on June 14,
it gets honored.
The symbol of our nation and
its greatest heroes has been serving its role since its adoption in
1777. Woodrow Wilson, the 28

1916 that named June 14 as Flag
Day, a date that also celebrates
the birth of the United States
Army. It was not until 1949 that this
became official, when President
Harry Truman signed an Act of
Congress that declared June 14
the yearly holiday of Flag Day.
Pennsylvania was the first state
to recognize and celebrate the
newly minted day, and many
other states began to follow suit.
For over 240 years, “Old Glory” has maintained a symbolic
spot in the heart of Americans
thanks to patriotic standards
like the “Star-Spangled Banner”. The thirteen red and white
stripes shown on the flag demonstrate the 13 original colonies,
and the blue square contains 50
white stars that represent the
50 states.
Bernard J. Cigrand, an advocate once dubbed the “Father
of the Flag,” called for the
commemorative day by delivering speeches and publishing
magazine and newspaper articles discussing its importance.
Cigrand’s 30-year efforts eventually led to Flag Day.
Street parades, festive activities, and essay competitions
now mark how many locations
celebrate. Each year the President delivers a proclamation
for all government officials in
the United States to display the
flag on all government buildings. The National Flag Day
Foundation partners with 4-H
clubs, Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW), and Boy Scouts and Girl
Scouts of America to continue
the annual traditions.

Global partnership brings new bio-tech jobs to S.A.
By Lea Thompson
[email protected]
Officials welcomed the German-based biotechnology company Cytocentrics to San Antonio
on Thursday, following a unanimous vote by City Council to
award the company a $1 million
incentive.
Cytocentrics will use half of
the grant to relocate operations
from Rostock, Germany to a new
robotics and bio-tech facility in
San Antonio, which will create
more than 300 new high-tech jobs
for the city.
As part of the incentive agreement, the company will invest
$15 million over a five-year
period to establish their facilities
and develop jobs. Once those
goals are met, the rest of the city’s
grant will be used to purchase
expensive lab equipment.
Mayor Ivy Taylor noted the
company’s relocation would promote new partnerships between
the University of Texas at San
Antonio (UTSA), University of
Texas Health Science Center atn
San Antonio and Alamo Colleges.
This global partnership was
“indicative of efforts to focus on
the biomedical industry, which
currently employs one in six San
Antonians and has over an estimated $30 billion in economic
impact,” explained the Mayor.
Cytocentrics President James
Garvin announced that employees
would earn an estimated $50,000
a year, and laboratory technicians will earn $70,000 a year.
The company specializes in cell
research, which is used to develop
new drugs and treatment options
for cancer, heart disease and pain
management.
Cytocentrics is one of the
leading companies in global lab
technology, and have developed
automatic processes that speed
up testing. The company has already developed a robot that can
perform the same patch clamping
that has previously been administered manually by lab techs.
“We’re looking at a human cell,
which has pores just like your
skin, and those pores are called
ion channels, and by reading
what’s going on in those pores
you can figure out what’s happening to a cell when it’s interacting
with a drug or particular kinds of Mayor Ivy Taylor welcomes Cytocentrics to San Antonio, where the company will develop a bio-tech and robotics research facility.

Por primera vez en cuatro años,
los residentes de San Antonio
pued en regar sus jardines sin
restricciones por sequía. Esto
gracias a las recientes lluvias y el
aumento de nivel en el Acuífero
Edwards.
La administradora de la ciudad,
Sheryl Sculley, en consulta con el
presidente del San Antonio Water
System (SAWS) Robert Puente,
declaró el fin de las restricciones
de agua el miércoles 10 de junio.
Desde el 2011 San Antonio
estuvo bajo algún tipo de restricción y había permanecido bajo
restricciones de Etapa Dos desde
el 2012.
“San Antonio y la región han
experimentado un tremendo nivel
de lluvia que ha resultado en
unos de los más altos niveles del
acuífero que hemos visto en años
recientes”, expresó Puente en un
comunicado de prensa.
Como resultado de las lluvias
que ocurrieron desde el pasado

If the magistration process is
intimidating already, imagine
it without representation and

mental illness.
The recent Texas Indigent

approval of a $600,000, renewable grant for Bexar County
now means those appearing in
front of a magistrate judge with
mental illness will be guaranteed

LA PRENSA DE SAN ANTONIO
Comentarios...
a filmarlo.
“Hemos dejado de vivir
nuestras vidas”, dijo alguna vez
en una entrevista, “y ahora solo
la estamos grabando en nuestros
teléfonos”.
Le pasa muy seguido. En una
cena de recaudación de fondos
con el presidente Barack Obama,
me cuenta, quedaron rodeados
No me estoy quejando. Así es este
mundo. Pero es triste por todo lo
que nos estamos perdiendo”.
Ahí estaba, frente a mí, uno de
los hombres más fotografiados
del mundo. He entrevistado a
rrowland”. Tenía 12 minutos
exactos de entrevista. Ni un
minuto más. Pero él parecía andar
sin prisa. Cruzó la pierna y se
puso a platicar.
ty” y “The Perfect Storm” – sabe
Y luego
continuó. “Así que creo que ahora
ya está lista para ser presidenta”.
A Clooney no le gusta pelearse
y mucho menos en público. Casi
nunca responde a críticas en la
prensa. Pero la excepción fue
cuando una publicación británica
habló de su entonces prometida (y
hoy esposa) Amal Alamuddin.
“Y debido a
ejecutar a mi prometida. Bueno,
eso no es cierto”. Y lo dijo.
Este tipo de confrontaciones
casi no ocurren en el mundo de
Clooney. Al contrario, él cree que
es una virtud cuando los actores
no son tan accesibles – “unavaila
ble” en inglés– al público. Por
eso no tiene Twitter, Facebook o
Instagram.
“Si le vas a pedir a la gente que
pague dinero para que te vaya
a ver en una película, ellos no
tienen porqué saber lo que estás
pensando todo el tiempo”, me
dijo, “creo que tiene que haber
un elemento de misterio”.
Es precisamente ese misterio lo
que hace que, cuando la gente ve
a George Clooney en persona, se
le lancen a filmarlo en lugar de
entablar una conversación con él.
Es, sin duda, lo malo de la fama.

Nearly
three weeks
ago San Antonio celebrated Memorial Day,
saluting our
Veterans
Steve Walker who so gallantly gave
their lives in defense of this
nation. The holiday was still
honored, despite the bad rain
that sent graduation ceremonies
inside like Edgewood ISD into
Kennedy High School and other
ceremonies into various venues
in the Alamo City.
Today, we celebrate Flag
Day (June 14) to commemorate
the adoption of the flag of the
United States. It happened on
that day in 1777 by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Ironically, the
US Army also celebrates the
Army’s birthday on the same
date. It was officially named
the American Continental Army
on that date two years earlier
in 1775.
In 1916, President Woodrow
Wilson issued a proclamation
that officially established June
14 as Flag Day. In August of
1949, National Flag Day was
established by an act of Congress. It must be noted unlike
Memorial Day or Veteran’s
Day, Flag Day is not an official
federal holiday.
The week of June 14, is also
designated as “National Flag
Week.” During this week the
President will issue a proclamation urging Americans citizens
to fly the American Flag for the
duration of the week.
Many local Hispanics have
served in the military under
the American flag. Three local Hispanics were awarded
the Congressional Medal of
Honor for their service. Last
year President Obama presented
two local Hispanic soldiers with
the prestigious medal for their
bravery in Vietnam to include
Jose Rodela and Santiago Erevia. News 4 WOAI Reporter
Cleto Rodriguez’s grandfather,
also named Cleto, received the
medal for his bravery in WWII.
Many organizations across
the country hold parades and
events in celebration of Ameri-
ca’s National Flag and all that it
represents. It is that special day
for all Americans to celebrate
and show respect for our flag.
It is representative of our independence and our unity as a
nation... one nation, under God,
indivisible. Our flag has a long
history. It was at the lead of every battle fought by Americans
and it even stands proudly on
the surface of the moon.
For many who don’t know,
there is actually flag etiquette.
There is a right way and a
wrong way to display the flag.
Here are the 11 basics on
displaying the American Flag:
1. The flag is normally flown
from sunrise to sunset.
2. In the morning, raise the
flag briskly. At sunset, lower it
slowly. Always, raise and lower
it ceremoniously.
3. The flag should not be
flown at night without a light
on it.
4. The flag should not be
flown in the rain or inclement
weather.
5. After a tragedy or death,
the flag is flown at half-staff
for 30 days.
6. It is called “half-staff” on
land, and “half-mast” on a ship.
7. When flown vertically on
a pole, the stars and blue field,
or “union,” is at the top and end
of the pole (away from your
house).
8. The American flag is always flown at the top of the
pole. Your state flag and other
flags fly below it.
9. The union is always on top.
When displayed in print, the
stars and blue field are always
on the left.
10. Never let your flag touch
the ground, ever... period.
11. Fold your flag when
storing. Don’t just stuff it in a
drawer or box.
When your flag is old and
has seen better days, it is time
to retire it. Old flags should
be burned or buried. Please do
not throw it in the trash. Be
patriotic and celebrate Flag Day
this week. Also wish the Army
a Happy 240th Birthday.
As always, what I write is
“Just a Thought.”

Just a Thought: It’s Flag Day
Investing in San Antonio’s future leaders
As another
class of San
Antonio graduates cross the
stage to represent our city
Lloyd Doggett in the world
economy, the
affordability and accessibility
of higher education remains an
important component in ensuring future economic growth. Too
many of our students encounter
huge financial barriers to higher
education, and too many others
leave college with enormous
amounts of debt. The level of
student debt nationwide has
surpassed credit card debt and
totals more than $1 trillion. We
must pursue policies to reduce
the student debt that burdens so
many. San Antonio was recently
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the
top five cities in the nation in
increases in Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
completion rates. More than
half of San Antonio students
graduating from high school now
apply for federal financial aid to
help assist with the high costs
of college.
We need to make applying
for financial aid less of a burden
on students and their families.
Talented students should not
find the FAFSA process too
complicated and difficult to
complete—there are steps we
can take to simplify the process.
However, we continue to face
big challenges from those in
Congress who do not believe
in federal aid to education and
who oppose adequate funding
for student aid. In their budget
this year, Republicans tried to
limit Pell Grants, which would
make college unobtainable for
many students of limited means
across this country. Unfortunately, attacks like these are not
unusual. The top Republican on
the Subcommittee that oversees
Higher Education policy in the
U.S. House of Representatives
has told her colleagues that “it
is not the role of the Congress
to make college affordable and
accessible.”
Despite challenges, I am
working to help ensure that all
San Antonio students are able
to achieve their full God-given
potential. In the past year, I have
supported legislation to avoid
the doubling of interest rates
on federal loans and to continue adequate funding for Pell
Grants and other types of federal
student financial assistance. I
successfully authored the “More
Education” tax credit to encourage those seeking education
beyond high school. Also known
as the American Opportunity
Tax Credit (AOTC), this law
provides a tax cut to students or
their families by up to $10,000
over four years as reimbursement for tuition, textbooks, and
other higher education expenses.
This $2,500 annual credit can go
a long way in making ends meet.
Even those attending school
and working part time, who do
not have as much as a $2,500
tax liability, can still claim up
to $1,000 in a refundable tax
credit for eligible educational
expenses, which is similar to the
refundable Earned Income Tax
Credit. I have introduced a bill
again this year to make this tax
credit permanent at San Antonio
schools and to make it work better for students who also receive
Pell Grants.
During my visits with students
at the various colleges in my
district, I have heard time and
time again about the difficulty
students face when trying to
finance their education. It is
important that students and
families affected by the cost of
higher education contact their
elected officials at the local,
state, and federal level to express their support for programs
that help students afford college
and reduce the level of debt that
burdens so many. I believe that
an investment in our students is
an investment in the future of
America, but to maintain that
investment, it is essential that
student and families continue to
make their voices heard.
Many bright students from
San Antonio colleges and universities serve as staff and
interns in my San Antonio and
Washington, DC offices. If you
would like to apply for an internship, or if I can be of assistance
on any federal issues, please
contact me by calling 704-1080.

Culligan’s Southwest continues family tradition
By Lea Thompson
[email protected]
Culligan’s Southwest has been
a part of the San Antonio landscape for more than 60 years, but
these days, the company does
more than provide water softeners
to residents.
They provide water solutions to
families and businesses throughout Texas.
Founder Wilbur Walton opened
the first Culligan’s in Illinois in
1921, providing water softening
services to local residents. Walton
expanded his company to Texas
after WWII, where many businesses and families struggled with
hard water in commercial pipes
and residential areas.
Today, Culligan’s Southwest
is led by Walton’s grandchildren,
Bob Boerner and Kristi Stanford,
who have expanded water softener delivery services to include
water purifying technology, au-
tomatic refillable tanks, and community involvement throughout
Texas.
“Texas has some of the hardest
water in the country, and it’s because we have so much limestone
here. When it gets hot, the limestone precipitates and it will rust
out pipes.” Boerner said.
Boerner noted that most of the
company trucks that once delivered massive tanks have been
replaced with automatic systems
that use the reverse osmosis
process, which catches impurities and only releases pure water
molecules.
The system produces a larger
volume of quality water than
the original delivery system, and
by reducing the mineral buildup
through innovative water processes, the company helps their
customers save thousands each
year.
“We still serve residents, but
we also bring high-quality water to hospitals, military bases
Bio-tech...
elements in the environment,”
Garvin said. “By understanding
that better, you can change the
face of medicine.”
Garvin went on to describe Cytocentrics’ recent patent to build
a unit to extract and test a biopsy
for cancer patients at bedside.
Unlike current chemotherapy
methods, which takes months
before doctors can determine
their effectiveness, the unit would
be able to determine results and
treatment effectiveness almost
immediately.
“What takes months could take
a few hours with this technology at the bedside for patients,”
Garvin added. “It’s not only our
company, it’s what (UTSA and
UTHSCA) are doing. When you
bring that collaboration together,
that’s when you move the frontiers of science forward in such
and commercial buildings, It’s
important that we provide water
solutions, and we can do that using innovative water technology.”
said Stanford, the company’s
vice-president.
Culligan’s is looking to expand
their Demand Initiated Regeneration (DIR) services to hospitals
and facilities throughout Texas.
Their aqua-sensor helps monitor
the exact times when the system
needs to regenerate and clean
water.
“Our state-of-the art Culligan
water treatment systems are
tailored to the consumer’s water conditions and usage, and
available for purchase or on fullservice monthly rental plans,”
said Boerner.
The siblings credit their father,
the late Gilbert W. “Gib” Boerner,
with inspiring them to become
involved in water conservation
through legislation and community outreach. The family grew
up at the Culligan’s headquarters,
where Gib helped expand the
Southwest dealership reach.
After they graduated from college, the siblings worked their
way from entry-level jobs in
payroll and sales to taking active
leadership roles in the company
and as members of Texas Water
Quality Association and the Culligan Dealers Association of North
America (CDANA).
Boerner and Stanford oversee
the operations of the Culligan
Southwest dealerships located in
San Antonio, Kerrville-Boerne,
New Braunfels-Seguin and Midland-Odessa. The company employs a staff of 110, with about
60 employees working in San
Antonio.
The company is proud to support their communities by creating jobs and by giving money and
water to local events and organizations like Siclovia and Texas
Public Radio. Culligan’s has also
donated clean water and funds
to the Wimberley community,

a way that all of our lives are
impacted.”
The company will also partner
with local academic institutions
to provide the training needed
for high tech jobs, rather than
outsourcing talent. Cytocentrics
will donate one of their patch
clamping robots to the Alamo
Colleges for local lab tech training programs in the future.
“From the workforce development perspective, we’ve been
waiting for an opportunity like
this for several years. For every
scientist that is produced by these
employers, you have anywhere
from seven to 10 technicians that
are part of that workforce.” Dr.
Federico Zaragoza, the vice chancellor of economic and workforce
development at Alamo Colleges
said.
Garvin thanked Targeted Tech-
nology, a local investment group,
for encouraging them to choose
San Antonio as their relocation
site.
“It’s not just about the jobs.
It’s about what we can do to help
medicine be better for all of us,”
Garvin added. “I’m sorry I get
so excited, it’s pretty neat stuff.”
Garvin admitted the company
had been considering several
other locations before San Antonio, but that they were already
pleased with the resulting partnerships in academia, research and
technology.
“Don’t let anyone tell you
that economic development isn’t
working in team and in tandem,”
City Manager Sheryl Sculley
said. “Don’t apologize for your
excitement, Dr. Garvin. We are as
excited as you are that Cytocentrics is coming to San Antonio.”

“The TIDC grant provides
public defenders for people who
cannot afford their own attorney
and also suffer from a mental illness. It’s important to note that
Bexar County is one of the few
counties that has a central magistration system,” said Michael
Young, Chief Public Defender
for Bexar County.
That means those arrested
by any local or surrounding
jurisdictions are brought to the
same location for their day in
court. A procedure that, by law,
must occur with 48 hours of being arrested to be notified of the
charges against you.
For those unable to secure any
sort of representation, that usually ends with them heading to
the Bexar County Jail.
With San Antonio already facing a large bill for housing a high
number of inmates, relief via a
jail diversion program to mental
health facilities is a blessing.
“It can be up to $300 per day
to house these individuals,”
explained Young. “So if they
spend 30 days in jail, it’s going
to cost the taxpayers as much as
$10,000 for that one individual.
Multiply that by the thousands
(continued from page 1-A)
who are arrested with a mental
illness and you can see how much
it costs the county.”
For many, the term “jaildiversion” is incorrectly pegged
as releasing those who must be
separated from the general public, but Young explains it has
more to do with helping individuals get the treatment they need
to simply lead productive lives.
That is a sentiment shared by
the TIDC since they have been
distributing such funds to counties across the state since 2002
for the indigent population. The
commission was established under the Texas Fair Defense Act of
2001 that required a mechanism
for the indigent population to
have access to legal representation.
“District Attorney Nico LaHood recently spoke at a conference in Bexar County about
mental illness,” said Young. “He
said that Bexar County Jail has
become the largest de facto mental health hospital in the county.
That’s due to the incarceration
of people with mental illness.”
Among the resources for those
suffering from mental illness
that find themselves in the Bexar

his legacy.
“The main product we sell
here is the United States flag.
One of the things we do is repair
them as well. Between Memorial
Day and the Fourth of July, we
offer a service where people can
bring either a U.S. or Texas flag

properly dispose of them,” said
Van de Putte.
Dixie Flag and Banner Company can boast it has made the

County justice system, are programs whereby an individual
may be released on bond and
required to undergo counseling.
More extreme cases require
them to be a patient in a mental health facility. While many
of these measures also cost
considerable funds, it pales in
comparison to totals spent on
incarceration.
The trick now is to actually
divert the appropriate people to
those options.
“I’d like to commend Bexar
County for being the first jurisdiction in the state to provide
access to defense counsel at a
person’s first appearance before
a magistrate when critical mental
health diversion decisions are
made,” said Jim Bethke, executive director of the TIDC.
From April 2014 through February of 2015, there were 55,000
people booked through central
magistration in Bexar County.
11,000 of those suffered from a
mental illness.
That is a statistic the Bexar
County Public Defender’s Office
is all the more ready to handle
with the help of Jim Bethke and
the TIDC.

Por José I. Franco
[email protected]
amigo regiomontano don Camilo
alguna cerveza, come y se relaja,
sin arriesgarse de tomar el volante
y salir a las calles de Dios.
Durante la cena en su honor, él
para nada tuvo antojo de tomarse
cuando menos una cerveza o una
buena copa de vino. Sin embargo, su medio hermano (que
tiene 40 años de edad) al final
de la comida pidió al mesero
un trago especial: “Bourbon en
las rocas con soda de cola”. Para
satisfacción mía, lo que más me
gustó fue que al retirarnos del
restaurant Saltgrass Steak House,
ubicado en el 2885 Cinema Ridge
Road, en el área del Ingram Park
Mall, mi hijo cumpleañero se
encargó de tomar el volante del
automóvil de su hermano para
retornar a casa con la valiosa
carga de pasajeros integrado por
su prometida, mamá, sobrino y su
consanguíneo.
Mi hijo en su cumpleaños la
tuvo que hacer de “conductor
designado”, mientras que su
hermano recuperaba la sobriedad.
Llegaron bien a casa y no hubo

automovilista a no conducir bajo
deliciosos platillos, no grasos,
preparen ensaladas (aunque no
sean del agrado del festejado),
cocteles de fruta fresca.
De bebidas pueden elegir las de
su preferencia, ya sean gaseosas
libres de azúcar y cafeína o aguas
frescas.
Por ser este día tan especial,
a papá también se le pueden
regalar tarjetas pre pagadas para
restaurantes donde sirven menús
saludables.
y ansiedad.
vamos a Spurs. Que tengan buena
salud y hasta la próxima D.M.

Health Collaborative’s Manténgase sano y gane
Sugar-Packed Campaign premios con Fit Pass 2015
By KeAnna Whisenhunt
Health Collaborative of San
Antonio began their first installation of the Bexar Healthy Beverage Coalition this week with a
press conference to discuss their
“Sugar-Packed” Campaign.
The event featured Health Collaborative team members, school
district representatives, health
professionals, and Bexar County
Judge Nelson Wolff, who created
the coalition. The Bexar Healthy
Beverage Coalition partners
with Health Collaborative, the
American Diabetes Association,
and other organizations to better
educate the public on the dangers
of excessive sugar consumption,
as well as what measures can be
taken to live a healthier lifestyle
with less sugar. “Our mission
is to improve the health of the
community through collaborative
means,” stated Health Educator
Vanessa Lopez of Health Collaborative.
The campaign sparks an impact through its title, “Is Your
Drink Sugar-Packed?” This campaign is striving to make it more
convenient for families to make
healthier choices through education and awareness. Schools,
businesses, and health organizations are all taking part in this
movement by motivating students, coworkers, and colleagues
to make healthier choices and
making unsweetened beverages
more readily available.
“This campaign is about starting a community conversationin our offices, our schools, and in
our homes,” says Lenni Kirkman
of University Health System.
The better educated the public
becomes, the better decisions
they will make.
“When you look at what we do
as a nation, average 80 pounds
of sugar is hard to conceive…
that the average American would
put 80 pounds of sugar into his
or her body,” says Judge Nelson
Wolff. Sugar sweetened drinks
are creating a climb in obesity
which in return increases potential severe health problems, and
deaths induced by heart attack.
Overly consuming beverages
that contain heavy amounts of
sugar poses risk for heart disease,
and diabetes.
“Three of the biggest causes of
death in America- heart attack,
stroke, and cancer… are related
to being overly fat,” says Dr.
Vince Fonseca, MD, MPH at
Bexar County Medical Society.
This occurs when a high intake
of sugar travels into the blood
stream which then triggers the
production of triglycerides, a fat
found in the blood. The sugar
found in sweetened beverages
increases triglyceride levels,
which can then lead to coronary
artery disease.
Limiting intake of sweetened
beverages can prevent weight
gain, heart disease, and diabetes. As suggested by Dr. Fonseca, “The key to change that
to sustainable is to make small
changes.”
Ordering unsweetened tea and
adding small amounts of sugar,
or adding citrus fruits to a glass
of water are a few suggested
steps to moderating overall sugar
consumption.
Families can find out exactly
much sugar is in a sweetened
beverage with an easy-to-use
sugar calculator as well as other
educational materials that can be
found on the campaign’s website. Visit www.sugar-packed.
com for more information.

Gran desconocimiento
respondieron incorrectamente a

This
Week In
Sports
Powerhouse
in the making
The United States, in sports, is
more famous for NFL football,
Major League Baseball (MLB), the
National Basketball Association
(NBA) and even for the National
Hockey League (NHL). However,
another sport is on the radar. Soccer
or football (for everyone else in the
world) is on the rise for Americans.
While generally it is a major sport
for men, it has a growing popularity
among women.
While we still live in a time where
male sporting events have bigger
promotions, our women’s national
team does not get their due despite
their success.
The sport will start to grow following the past two victories for the
men’s national team against European juggernauts The Netherlands
and Germany. The Netherlands
made the semi-finals of the last
World Cup while Germany actually
won the cup.
Many fans of the sport and experts
predicted that the United States
would lose “friendly” matches, and
lose horrifically. Although the team
has exceptional players, the lack of
major success like some other sides
has always counted them out.
The U.S. looks to prove they
should no longer be considered the
underdog. With this newly found
confidence, the men’s team wants
to be idolized like the German,
Brazilian, and Spanish teams. They
want to be a powerhouse, and that
is exactly what they are becoming.
With the recent retirement of U.S.
soccer hero Landon Donovan, his
captain spot has been filled with the
best-qualified player, Michael Bradley. But, Bradley has not been the
star the past two matches. If you’re
not a fan of the MLS, Bobby Wood
has been the hero as he made both
game-winning goals for Team USA.
His two historic goals have put his
name on the map.
The win in Germany was one for
the books as it was the first time the
team has won playing in Germany.
So now what?
While there is quite some time before the next World Cup, the Olympics are coming back next year in
Brazil and that would be the perfect
stage to finally prove themselves to
the world. With players like Bradley
and Wood, the Unites States have
blown off the roof of their potential
and set their sights for the grandest
sports stage. It’s time for fans across
the nation and everywhere else In
the world to stand up and cheer
together “I believe that we will win”
for Team USA.

The NBA Finals continue as
LeBron James and the Cleveland

The Texas Rangers finish their threegame series at home against the Minnesota Twins today at 3:05 p.m. at

UTSA sends pair to the big show
By Kristian Jaime

NBA
For college baseball players,
making it to the big show is
always the goal. For two UTSA
roadrunners, it just became a
reality.
Brock Hartson, a 6’3” pitcher
that boasts a 3.54 Earned Run
Average (ERA), caught the eye of
the Cleveland Indians in the 21st
round of the 2015 Major League
Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The Pearland, Texas native is
only in his junior year but has
already garnered much attention.
2013 was a banner year for the
right-hander as he collected the
Louisville Slugger Freshman AllAmerican honors.
That same year, he made the
second team All-Western Athletic
Conference (WAC) and also the
WAC All-Tournament Team.
With over 100 inning pitched
under his belt, he finished the
2015 campaign with a record of
6-4. His ERA put him behind only
left-hander Aaron Burns.
After sitting down 76 batters
and collecting impressive accolades along the way, it was only
a matter of time before the MLB
came calling.
Joining Hartson is catcher John
Bormann originally of Seguin,
Texas. He too made 2013 a banner year as he joined his teammate
on the WAC All-Tournament
Team while also joining the
Johnny Bench Award watch list.
Bormann’s .273 batting average, along with his instincts
behind the plate made him an
attractive draft pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the late rounds.
Now as the pair fights to finds
a roster spot at their respective
clubs, the question for the boys
from Texas will be if they can
continue their success.
For Bormann, getting on base
was second nature as he was
among the leaders in the clubhouse in that category with a .384
percentage. To Hartson’s credit
also, his winning percentage for
the Roadrunners also was among
the best on the team.
The long collegiate baseball
season is nothing new to the roster of players primarily from the
Lone Star state, but with more
attention by the MLB on local
talent, dreams of getting to the big
show are more tangible.
Many late-round draft picks
find themselves diverted to dou-

Draft. (Photo by Jeff Huehn)
ble A or triple A teams with the
hopes they mature fast enough for
a major league roster. While only
time will tell if that materializes,
even getting a chance is thrilling
enough.
The Cleveland Indians may
still be relegated to seven games
out of the top of the American
League Central, but the MLB
season a marathon rather than a
sprint. The Pirates currently sit
in the middle of the pack of the
National League Central behind
The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis
Cardinals.
Many Pittsburgh faithful still
recall the recent success they had
in the post-season and follow the
newest crop of talent to dawn the
yellow and black. Yet for both
Hartson and Bormann, perhaps
the best accessory is the MLB
logo on their jerseys.
Stars inauguran temporada 2015 WNBA ante su fanaticada
Por José I. Franco
[email protected]
“Coco” Wade y Vickie Johnson,
defensivo juego y certeros disparos
Camp Day, y la tradicional Military
Appreciation Night.
evento dominical Family Funday,
Court Craze.
Para información sobre la
compra de boletos de admisión y
reservados favor de llamar a un
representante de ventas al teléfono
(210) 444-5090 o visitar el sitio
sastars.com.
La temporada será nuevamente
copatrocinada por el sistema de
hospitales CHRISTUS Santa Rosa
y la cadena de supermercados
H-E-B.

U.S. Soccer star Ali Krieger has
chosen to wear performance protection headgear from Unequal®
Technologies during this month’s
women’s soccer tournament in
Canada.
Unequal is virtually the only
provider of military grade performance protection for impact sports.
The Unequal Halo™ is ASTM
certified and FIFA Law 4 approved
and made with TriDur®, Accelleron® and other materials. TriDur
is a patented, hermetically sealed
aramid fabric used by the military
and law enforcement that’s 5x
stronger than steel with virtually
unmatched ability to absorb and
disperse high impact energy.
Barely 10mm thin the Halo contours to any players’ head, looking
just like a headband while offering
serious protection.
Krieger chose Unequal after
suffering her second concussion
in April.
“I had never worn protective
headgear before, so I was surprised
how comfortable, and lightweight
the Unequal Halo is,” admits
U.S. Soccer star midfielder and defender Ali Krieger (10), during this month women soccer tournament in Canada will wear
performance protection headgear from Unequal Technologies.

Ireland and South Korea. (Courtesy photo)
Krieger, who wore it during recent
friendlies versus Mexico, Ireland
and South Korea. “The fact that
that it helps protect me and doesn’t
affect ball control made it easy
decision to wear in the World Cup
and beyond. I have learned the
hard way that concussions are not
fun, Unequal has empowered and
bolstered my confidence.”
Steve Holeman, former Head
Soccer Coach at UGA, Ole Miss
and Auburn and current Chairman
of Unequal’s Soccer Advisory
Board says, “to see world-class
women soccer players taking
head protection seriously is an
exciting development for the sport.
Females are at risk of sustaining
a concussion arguably second
only to American football (per
10,000 athletic exposures). With
the technology and science behind
the Unequal Halo, I truly believe
this is the product of the future in
our sport.”
Martin Truex Jr. ganó
en Pocono Raceway
Por Seth Livingstone
Nascar Wire Service
Jr. dominó la Axalta “We Paint
Winners” 400 tras liderar 97 de
las 160 vueltas, incluyendo las
últimas 27, antes de cruzar la meta
rumbo al círculo de ganadores
del popular autódromo Pocono
Raceway.
carrera me he acostumbrado a las
decepciones para ser honestos, y
he aprendido a lidiar con esos días
NASCAR. Fue apenas la segunda
victoria para el equipo y su dueño
Barney Visser, quien ganó en
Darlington la Southern 500, con
Regan Smith como su piloto en
el año 2011.
Tras ganar títulos consecutivos
en la NASCAR XFINITY Series,
Truex Jr. de 34 años de edad
pasó del equipo Dale Earnhardt
Inc. a Michael Waltrip Racing,
donde parecía haber encontrado
una casa permanente, pero luego
vino la carrera de Richmond en el
otoño de 2013, donde todo parecía
que Truex Jr. iba encaminado
a clasificar para el Chase por la
NASCAR Sprint Cup. Sin embargo, su equipo fue castigado por
intentar alterar el resultado de la
carrera y eventualmente se quedó
sin equipo.
Hasta antes del domingo solo
había podido ganar dos carreras
en la Sprint Cup: Dover en 2007
y Sonoma en 2013. Sus problemas
en la pista palidecieron ante el
diagnóstico de cáncer de su novia,
Sherry Pollex, en 2014 cuando
Truex Jr. solo lideró una vuelta en
toda la temporada. Además le afectó el
fallecimiento de su abuela. Sherry
fue quien lo ayudó para encontrar
motivos para superar las frustraciones de 2013.
“Le creí”, dijo Truex Jr. “Sabía
que iba a tener que trabajar mucho
y que no iba a ser fácil. Me sentí
equipo. Eso hace que todo sea
más divertido. Todos tenemos los
mismos objetivos y hacemos que
las cosas sucedan. Es divertido
tener éxito con un grupo como el
nuestro”, dijo Pearn.

Vatican astronomer speaks in
San Antonio at Planetarium, OST
By J. Michael Parker
For Today’s Catholic
Jesuit Brother Guy Consolmagno, PhD, has never met a
planet he didn’t like, but he told
a San Antonio audience that Earth
remains his favorite one.
The 63-year-old Detroit native,
curator of the extensive meteorite
collection at the Vatican Observatory and president of the Vatican
Observatory Foundation, was an
astronomer long before he entered
the Society of Jesus in 1989; his
fascination with stars and space
was ignited by the launch of the
Russian satellite Sputnik into
low orbit around the earth Oct. 4,
1957. Now he has two degrees
in Earth and Planetary Sciences
from MIT and a PhD in Planetary
Science from the University of
Arizona, and has lectured at both
Harvard and MIT.
The brother has published several astronomy books, including
Brother Astronomer, edited The
Heavens Proclaim, and coauthored several other books with
different people. He received
the Carl Sagan Award from the
American Astronomical Society.
He said that to date, there is
no evidence of any kind of life
having existed anywhere but on
Earth. Mars is too far away and
has none of the resources human
beings need to live and support
themselves or their space vehicles. The red planet is about 140
million miles from Earth.
Dr. Consolmagno was keynote
speaker May 15 at the rededication of the Scobee Educational
Center Planetarium. He also
spoke briefly to administrators,
faculty members and invited
guests at Oblate School of Theology.
In the planetarium address, he
showed a video in which political
satirist Stephen Colbert of “The
Colbert Report” asked him why
the Vatican has an observatory.
“For example,” the satirist said,
“You’re the curator of meteorites;

Oblate School of Theology and the Scobee Educational Center
Planetarium. (Courtesy photo)
and religion,’ and most of you
also know that the things ‘everybody knows’ generally aren’t
true. It’s not been an eternal war;
it’s an idea that didn’t even come
up until near the end of the 19th
century, and it’s all tied into the
politics of the day.
The astronomer asked rhetorically how many of us born and
raised in America were taught as
children that Christopher Columbus’ voyages to the New World
were intended to prove that the
world was round and not flat.
Then he asked, “How could he
prove the world was round since
he didn’t go around the world?
Did people really think the world
was flat then? Absolutely not!
Nobody thought the world was
flat. Everyone knew that the
world was round, going back to
the ancient Greeks. If you think
about the Ptolemaic system that
Galileo was overthrowing, it had
a round earth.”
The Jesuit brother explained
that Pope Leo XIII was determined to underscore the Church’s
serious support of science by
establishing the Vatican Observatory. He showed one slide of
a priest doing astronomy in the
observatory’s early days, and
another showing Pope Paul VI
peering into a telescope at the
observatory in July 1969 when he
was preparing a statement to be
broadcast to the U.S. astronauts
landing on the moon.
what are you looking for, the
Shooting Star of David?” The studio audience roared with laughter,
as did approximately 30 listeners
at the planetarium.
The whole idea of a Vatican observatory began with the reform
of the Julian Calendar in 1582,
Dr. Consolmagno explained.
“Just studying the universe is a
great way to remind yourself that
there are more important things
in life than ‘what’s for lunch?’”
Colbert asked him, “What is for
lunch, by the way?’” provoking
more laughter from the audience.
Pope Leo XIII founded the
Vatican Observatory in its modern form in 1891 to show the
world that the Catholic Church
supported science, the astronomer
explained. “Most of you know

a casa’.
“Cumplí con los encargos a la
carrera, y fui de inmediato al cine
más cercano. Estaba tan absorto
con la doble función de cine de
John Wayne que se me olvidó
prestarle atención al reloj. Ya
eran las cinco y media cuando
me acordé.
me preguntó preocupado. Me
dio tanta vergüenza decirle que
estaba viendo una película del
Oeste de John Wayne, que le
respondí: ‘El auto no estaba
kilómetros y voy a pensarlo’.
no pavimentadas y oscuras. Yo
aquel episodio y me pregunto
qué habría pasado si mi padre
me hubiera castigado del modo
en que los demás castigamos a
nuestros hijos. ¿Habría yo aprendido alguna lección? Creo que
no. Sin duda habría soportado

Is faith really a good thing?
NewsUSA - Turn on the TV,
go online or stream music, and it
may seem like there is no place
for faith in our culture. People
-- especially young people -- will
share just about any detail of their
personal lives, except when it
comes to their faith. Many are
reluctant or even embarrassed to
share how their faith makes them
who they are.
Despite this trend, there are
tens of millions of Americans
who still value their faith tremendously, and they want to
make faith more visible. Thanks
to a fast-growing social media
movement (www.FaithCounts.
net) people, regardless of their
religion, are openly celebrating
their faith -- because they believe
faith is a very good thing. How
is faith good? Let us count the
ways.
1. Faith inspires, empowers
and comforts billions of people
the world over. And that makes
people of faith happier.
2. People and organizations are
motivated by their faith to help
millions of people every single
day, in soup kitchens, hospitals,
schools and homeless shelters.
3. People of faith live longer.
4. People of faith are more
engaged in civic life.
5. People of faith are more
likely to be law-abiding citizens.
6. People of faith are more
generous and charitable.
7. Faith has the power to add
deep spiritual meaning and help
people survive the most challenging times.
And last but not least, a basic
teaching of every major world
religion asks that we treat others
as we ourselves would want to be
treated. If more people followed
this Golden Rule, that alone
would be a positive influence
on society. And that’s reason
enough to promote the value of
faith.
What does the future hold for
faith in America? Nobody knows
for sure, but those who value
their faith can help push back
against current trends by visiting
www.FaithCounts.net and sharing with friends. FaithCounts.
net showcases compelling stories
about faith through videos, uplifting quotes, articles and images.
Hopefully, more people will feel
inspired, and ultimately feel good
about expressing how their faith
makes them who they are.
These are small steps, but they
are making a big difference, and
FaithCounts.net can help restore
the value of faith in America.

La Prensa de San Antonio Performance takes center
stage at the McNay
By Lea Thompson
[email protected]
Artist Lesley Dill proves that
powerful words can spark creativity for any medium in the exhibit “Performance as Art,” which
opens at the McNay Museum on
Wednesday.
The McNay’s first solo exhibit
by a woman ever, the show spans
over 20 years of Dill’s performances and art pieces, including
a recording of her 2008 opera
“Divide Light,” which was based
on the poetry of Emily Dickinson.
“Reading is what woke me up
to who I would be in this life,”
the New York- based artist said.
Dill walked through the exhibit
with an audience on Tuesday,
often referencing Dickinson’s
work in to her own work with
performance garments, photos
and sculptures.
“To be alive is power,” Dill
recited as presented the incredible
dresses used in the opera, which
physically move with the actors
and unroll with different lines
throughout the performance.
“It was as if lines of her poetry
had this electrical light and just
jumped into my eyes. Falling in
love with her words has given
me the strength and vitality to
make this work.” Dill said of her
discovery of Dickinson’s work as
an English major in college.
The costumes are displayed in
sequential order and can be seen
as a representation of the human
experience, which is shaped by
the internal and external cultural
expectations. Visitors can walk
through the collections and enjoy
recordings of her past performances and collaborations with
choral groups, composers and
musicians.
“She may have stayed in her
room, but her language went
everywhere. That’s what we as
artists hope to do. We stay in one
place before the work is activated
in the world,” Dill said.
“Performance as Art” runs at
the McNay Museum from June
10 to Sept. 6, 2015. Visitors can
also catch an original presentation
of “Drunk with the Starry Void,”
Dill’s collaboration with vocalist
and composer Pamela Ordonez, at
the McNay’s Leeper Auditorium
at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.

Coloque a
su mascota dentro de una jaula
especial o amárrela al cinturón de
seguridad con un arnés o pechera,

‘Flair’ elevates Mexican Street Food

learned about the importance of
food sustainability while train
ing at the Cordon Bleu in Austin,
but he loves Mexican street food
because it’s meant to be served
fresh.
“I was always told in culinary
school that Mexican food would
never be considered a ‘high end’
cuisine, and it kind of tore at my
heart a little bit. I’m not trying to
change the philosophy of ‘street
food,’ but we can still make high
quality and delicious foods here.”
Aguirre said.

a laugh.

Food like elote and tacos are
often taken for granted in San
Antonio. But at Chef Rolando
Aguirre’s new restaurant, Flair,
Mexican street food is a cuisine
that deserves to be celebrated
night, offering patrons savory and
affordable dishes like the mole
chicken wings.
“Mexican hits close to home,”
said Aguirre, who previously
worked as a chef at Halcyon
and the Stella Public House in
the Blue Star Arts Complex. “I
just remember those street foods
growing up, they were so deli
cious! I wanted to bring in the
whole farm-to-table, made-fromscratch thing. Just because it’s
street food doesn’t mean it can’t
be top of the line.”
Aguirre proves that fast and af
fordable plates like the masa fries
can make for a great dining expe
rience. The crispy fries are shaped
with potato and masa, enveloped
in a creamy poblano queso and
topped with green chile pork.
“This has already become a
very popular plate. It’s pretty
much San Antonio’s answer to
the poutine.” Aguirre said.

TAMU opens clichés of a different sort
By Kristian Jaime
[email protected]
1982 saw local artist, Mel Casas,
starting to paint a series of works
based on South Texas life. Seven
years and 30 pieces later, the collection was complete.
26 years after the last canvas was
finished, they finally come to light
in a retrospective through a sponsored exhibition at the Educational
& Cultural Arts Center (ECAC)
at Texas A&M University at San
Antonio (TAMU-SA). This portion
is part of a much larger collection
from Casas’ Humanscape works.
The show is scheduled to run
from June 11 to September 27 and
even includes his more unorthodox
painting tools, personal items and
his foray into Mexican folk art.
“We are excited to present this
group of extraordinary paintings.
Mel Casas made very significant
artistic and educational contributions to this city and to this nation.”
said Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson,
president of TAMU-SA.
If inspiration for a masterwork
can be found in the most ordinary
details, Casas was inundated with
it. A passing glance at the screen of
the San Pedro drive-in cinema was
more than enough impetus to play
with traditional concepts of reality.
The preparation for the exhibit
meant guest Curator Ruben C. Cordova got to know the artist and his
family along the way. While being
a renowned artist across the country, Casas never garnered much
attention from the more established
galleries in the Alamo City.
Such is a fact not lost on Cordova
when he began the journey to curate
Mel Casas: The Southwestern Clichés (1982-1989).
“I wanted to have as open a space
as possible,” Cordova explained.
“So you can walk around the middle

in Market Square. (Photo, Kristian Jaime)
of the gallery and see a whole range
of works to see the development.
The main and most established institutions never gave him a show. But
I don’t think there was a scholarship
equal to his work.”
Cordova also noted the exhibition
was one of the more remarkable
series in American art. That is due to
Casas meandering from the clever to
the whimsical throughout the show.
Visitors may be examining his
painting of a night sky one moment
and a portrait of a bowl of guacamole the next.
“Different phases of this enterprise have different values that are
very positive. I think that makes
a great story and powerful art that
deserves to be seen in many collections,” Cordova continued.
The numerous roles Casas played
included teaching at San Antonio
College (SAC) and chairing the Art
Department. As the first president of
the Con Safo art group, his role in
bringing Chicano art to the masses
Prince Royce launches first English album
cannot be understated.
Though he had tremendous clout
the art community, Casas was
uncomfortable speaking about his
extensive career. Opting rather to
indulge in fine spirits and a good
meal.
“He’s a particularly good artist
to have here. Back when SAC was
really the only art school, he taught
a generation of students here in San
Antonio. His role was absolutely
central to this city,” Cordova concluded.

Jurassic World was a bitten adventure
By Christina Acosta
[email protected]
Director Colin Trevorrow, who
has also directed Homebase (2002)
as well as Safety not Guaranteed
(2012), took a big bite for a film
once directed by Steven Spielberg.
Let’s just begin by saying he had
some large shoes to fill.
Brothers Zach (Nick Robinson)
and dinosaur wiz Gray (Ty Simpkins) go on a trip to Costa Rica to not
only visit their aunt Claire (Bryce
Dallas Howard), but to spend time at
Jurassic World. She is the operations
manager at the theme park, allowing
the boys to have an all access pass.
When the boys get there, Claire’s
assistant is in charge of the boys
while she goes back to work. The
boys decide to go on their own
adventure at the park without their
new guardian.
Claire’s main focus shifts to how
to boost the attendance of visitors by
creating a specimen that is “enough
to scare the entire theme park.” She
wanted to create a mysterious hybrid
that has “more teeth.”
This does not sit well with Owen
(Chris Pratt), who is the on-site
trainer of velociraptor dinosaurs.
Owen is more aware than Claire,
and the corporation, that if the new
and unknown form specimen is
created, it can be a powerful and
deadly.
The corporation creates an Indominous Rex, a hybrid from Carnotaurus, Majoungsaurus, Rugops,
and Giganotosaurus; A form of
specie that according to Owen, “kills
for sport.”
Once Claire decides to show
Owen the new creation, they are
in for a surprise when it could not
be found.
The surprising part was that the
Indominous Rex was smart to hide
from others. Owen and a few other
brave souls go down to find the dinosaur and discover it close behind.
As they escape through the emergency door, this also opens the door
for the dinosaur to roam free. This
puts the whole park on emergency
alert.
While the chaos is beginning,
Zach and Gray are still on a ride
looking at dinosaurs through a
hamster-like exercise ball. Once
they are out in the field, they come in
close range to the Indominous Rex
who is ready to eat them.
Aware that her nephews are in
danger, Claire and Owen go on a
horrifying adventure to find the
two boys. Together, they must also
stop the Indominous Rex from
destroying the whole park before
it’s too late.
What saved this movie from
being just another sequel was the
acting. I must say that Chris Pratt
will no longer be seen as the idiot
from Parks and Rec.
Pratt showed intelligence and
even bravery. You fall in love with
Pratt when you see how he treats
the velociraptors as if they were his
own children.
Among the more poignant scenes
was Howard telling her nephews
to stay with her when they said out
loud “NO! I want to go with him!”
His acting chops also showed the
audience that he was the only smart
character in the movie.
Although Pratt’s character is lovable, the plot was a little weak. No
more love stories, we have enough
of those already. I understand that
the chemistry between Pratt and
Howard was wonderful, but please,
focus more on dinosaurs.
The action of the movie at times,
left you on the edge of your seats,
but was overshadowed by the inside
story of the characters.
What would have made the
movie more interesting was if the
focus was more on the dinosaurs
themselves. It would have helped to
have a scientist (or actor) give more
information about this Indominous
Rex, instead of just going along
with the movie without having more
knowledge.
The film as a whole had its
good and bad moments. If you are
expecting a flick filled with action
and endless information about the
creepy Indominous Rex, you will
only see a glimpse of it. However,
if you want to see the heroic side of
Chris Pratt, I must say go for it.

proyecto no resulte deficitario.
“Tomorrowland” se suma así a
la lista de superproducciones de
Disney que han fracasodo durante
los últimos cinco años, como
“The Lone Ranger” de Johnny
(EFE/Archivo)

LA PRENSA DE SAN ANTONIO
CALLE 13 estrena su majestuoso cortometraje
“La Vida (Respira El Momento)”
14 de junio de 2015
Our Flag
By: Roy M. Roque and Rhonda R. Mata
Her colors are red, white, and blue.
These colors represent:
Red. The blood shed in defending our country.
White. When our country is enjoying peace.
Blue. A representation we have…
For the pride we have in her and her many accomplishments…
For the respect we have in the honors she has bestowed upon us.
On momentous occasions our flag has stood
atop of mountains,
traveled thru space, and
claimed uncharted lands.
Kacho López Mari, gran director y amigo. Por eso todo ocurre
alrededor de una subida, un salto,
una bajada durante el amanecer,
el medio día y la noche,” dice
Residente.
Sus elementos musicales son
tan orgánicos como las escenas
en pantalla, destacándose por los
cantos nativo americanos a cargo
de Vernon Foster, el cuarteto de
cámara, el piano acústico, y el
ritmo basado en el compás del
latido de un bebé.
Por su parte, Eduardo “Visitante” Cabra, músico de Calle 13,
sintió el mensaje de este proyecto
de manera muy personal: “Me
hace súper feliz que mi hija Azul
y mi hijo Marcel aparezcan en
el video. Un momento donde
Marcel estaba dando sus primeros
pasos. Es una gran canción y
tocarla en vivo siempre es emocionante.”
Un cortometraje que dejará
huella en todos sus espectadores,
“La Vida (Respira El Momento)”
representa otro triunfo indeleble
en la trayectoria de Calle 13.
As we hold old glory in homage
Let us not forget the M.I.As and the unknown soldiers.
Whom we should be eternally thankful and grateful for.
Those who realities have been shattered.
Suffering from infirmities such as PTSD.
Though battlefields are just memories,
They and their families continue to suffer the pains of war
Long after the physical battle is over.
These brave men and women have served us well
And when they return home to us,
It should be our priority to guarantee that
They receive the benefits, both medical and financial
They have earned and deserved.
Under our flag of red, white and blue…
Our heroes have left their families and shed their blood,
Protecting and defending our freedom.
Some returning in the embrace of our flag.
To be laid to rest, after paying the ultimate cost for freedom
Their lives.
As long as the flag of red, white and blue waves strong
We will strive for peace,
Defending what she stands for, if we must.
To write us of the hostility of terrorism and aggression
By
Those whom stand proudly under her colors
Her people, her country.
We will continue to set an example for other countries to follow.
Freedom, liberty, equality and justice for all.
