SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
MAY 10, 2015
conceived at this time of year by
American Greeting. The Interflora
campaign was called “Hardest Job
in the World” and included a fake
ad that ran in The Times newspaper.
Styled as a job ad, it said candidates
must be willing to work 119 hours a
week, be willing to learn on the job,
be tenacious with impeccable time
management skills, be on call 24/7,
have unlimited patience and be calm
under pressure. The salary was set at
about $260,000, based on 40 hours
per week, plus 79 hours of overtime.

A campaign run by the British florist
Interflora for Mother’s Day (which
takes place in March in the U.K.) used
a similar concept as last year’s famous
“World’s Toughest Job” campaign
As the above example demonstrates,
motherhood is anything but easy.
Mothers looking for models of strength
and inspiration will likely find them in
some of the most prominent mothers
in Scripture. Sarah, for example, was
the husband of Abraham, Abraham was
chosen by God to be the father of many
nations. But Sarah was barren. When
the Lord announced that Sarah would
bear a son she laughed because at the
time she was 90 years old. God was true
to God’s promise. Sarah bore a son, just
as the Lord predicted. The child’s name

A short time ago I received the
following update from Catholic
Relief Services regarding their
efforts in response to the
devastating earthquake that
struck Nepal on Saturday, April
24, 2015
A CRS team is on the ground
in Kathmandu, the capital city
and one of the most affected
areas, and our local partner
Caritas Nepal has started
distributing food and shelter.
The initial targets of CRS aid
will be the thousands in need
of shelter. Many buildings
were destroyed or damaged
in the 7.8 magnitude quake,
and continuing aftershocks
are causing widespread fear of
sleeping inside of even intact
buildings. Working with Caritas
Nepal, CRS’ initial goal is
to help 10,000 families with
was Isaac, a name that means “laughter.”
In the first book of Samuel, we hear
about Hannah. Like Sarah, Hannah,
the wife of Elkanah, was childless.
Hannah prayed so passionately for a
child that Eli the priest thought she
was drunk. God heard and answered
her prayers. Hannah bore Samuel and
dedicated him to the Lord’s service. In
the gospel according to Luke, we hear
how God chose Mary to become the
mother of Jesus. Though young and
unmarried, Mary’s simple but firm
yes paved the way for the salvation of
humankind. Both Matthew and Mark
give an account of a Gentile woman
whose daughter was possessed by a
demon. This woman, a descendant
from the ancient Canaanites and bitter
enemies of the Jews, crossed the line of
religious boundaries in order to plead
with Jesus, a Jew, to heal her daughter.
Her perseverance and her faith
prompted Jesus to cure her daughter.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us
pray that all mothers might have Sarah’s
patience, Hannah’s faith, Mary’s trust in
God’s will and the Canaanite woman’s
perseverance.
emergency shelter, blankets,
water treatment kits, and
hygiene kits. Given the scale
of the disaster, the number
receiving help is expected to rise
as our staff and partners are able
to better assess the situation,
coordinate our response with
other agencies and procure
additional supplies.
As this region, including
northern India, is known
for earthquakes, CRS had
prepositioned stocks of
emergency aid in nearby
Bihar, India. These supplies
- temporary shelter kits
(tarpaulins, mats, rope), water
purification kits and hygiene
kits for 2,000 families – are
being transported to Nepal
for immediate distribution.
Teams are also purchasing and
transporting other critical relief
items from India to transport
into Nepal since most markets
in Kathmandu remain closed.
An additional 3,000 tarpaulins
will be flown from a hub in
Dubai for distribution within
the next couple days. More
emergency personnel are on the
way. Catholic Relief Services has
made an initial commitment
of $825,000 to relief efforts in
Nepal, a figure that is expected
to rise as the needs become
clearer. The official death toll
is approaching 4,000 – with
thousands more injured —
but few outlying villages have
been reached and widespread
destruction, especially in hillside
settlements, is feared.
The people of our Archdiocese
are always extraordinarily
generous in these moments, and
as always I hope each of you will
encourage your parishioners to
respond to this urgent appeal.

Queridos hermanos, la elección
de los padrinos no es una
decisión que se tome a la ligera.
Frecuentemente los padres desean
honrar a algún miembro de la
familia o quizás alguna amistad.
Aunque todos los motivos quizás
sean bien intencionados hay veces
que no es lo ideal. Los padrinos
contraen la obligación de asistir a
los padres con la formación de la
fe Católica de los niños que van
hacer apadrinado. En el caso de ser
padrino de adolecentes o adultos
también contraen esa misma
obligación. El ejemplo del modo
y estado de vida de los padrinos
es primordial en la formación de
fe de un ahijado. Por encima de
todo, los padrinos deben de ser
personas que estén viviendo su fe
día a día. ¿Qué significa vivir la fe
día a día? Si están casados, tienen
que estar casados en la Iglesia.
Personas conviviendo en uniones
libres o casados por lo civil no
pueden ser padrinos hasta que no
arreglen su situación matrimonial.
Las personas seleccionados para
ser padrinos también tienen que
haber recibidos los Sacramentos de
Iniciación. Tienen que haber sido
bautizados, confirmados, y haber
posible. Cualquier pregunta o
inquietud que tengan, por favor
acérquense y hablen conmigo, los
Sacerdotes o Diáconos de nuestra
parroquia. Estamos aquí para
ayudarlos. Gracias. Que Dios los
bendiga a todos.

FIRE & ICE CAMP HIDDEN LAKE
By: Lana Warning
What can I say about
the spring retreat? That
I was inspired? Maybe
that I found out a little
more about myself?
How about I felt like
I connected more
with my faith? The spring retreat opened
my eyes more than I let on. The retreat
was called Fire & Ice. This year it was at
Camp hidden lake. Let me tell you, I know
how the camp got its name. It’s literally
hidden in the middle of nowhere outside
of Dahlonega! Plus, it had no cell service!
What a great place to have a retreat!
Honestly, you didn’t even notice that you
couldn’t use your technology. The retreat
got its name by the Fire that is within all
of us when we got baptized, and the Ice is
what makes us test if we believe.
within us never stops burning! No matter
what comes in our life, the fire will still
burn. Nothing can truly stop the fire!
Throughout the retreat we would be tested
to see how intense our fire was, and if we
knew if we even had a fire.
At the beginning of the retreat we got
introduced to
three guys who
are firefights from
Chicago. Ike Ditma
named after Mike
Ditma, Ikael Vordan
named after the “greatest” basketball player
ever Michel Jordan, And Chaz named after
his grandma. Let me tell you, they kicked
butt#DuhBears! Saved a ton of people, but
most of all made everyone laugh!
During the whole retreat
we had to keep a fire going
the whole time. We took
shifts during the night, so
that we could make sure it
kept going no matter what!
While at retreat we each
got a small group that
we were with the whole
retreat. I wouldn’t trade
my small group for
anything! Small group
really lets us have a chance to dive into the
talks we heard. For example, we each got a
letter with our names on it that invited us
to our future with god. And in my small
group we discussed about how god is just
waiting for us to accept the future that god
has planned for us. Plus, we had a chance
to go to reconciliation and have adoration.
Not to mention we had a fantastic time
singing and dancing to the music from the
lifeteen band!
Overall during the retreat, we all just had
a fun time worshiping together. I cannot
image not being able to go on the Fire
& Ice retreat! It more than changed my
out-look, but it also made me realize that I
need to stop fighting the fire that’s in me.
If I had not gone on the retreat; I would
have never found out that the only person
that is pushing me away from god is me.
The Fire & Ice retreat changed me, I find
that every retreat that I go on I find myself
changed afterwards. The Fire & Ice retreat
was truly amazing!
This is the fire part of the fire & ice! The
fire within us can burn intensely at times,
but it can also simmer. However, the fire
