May is the month consecrated to St. Mary. She has a deep connection in our spiritual lives; she teaches us how to live with hope and peace of heart. She was the woman chosen by God to fulfill His will. She played an important role in Gods’ salvation plan. When Jesus is giving His mother to His beloved disciple John as “his” mother (Jn 19:27) all the humankind represented by John received the same gift. Mary is our Mother. We can realize how much love, protection, tenderness and care she gave to Jesus and also how much suffering, pain and sorrow she lived because of Jesus’ death. Mary (Maria) is the deepest connection we have with our own mothers on earth. May is the month of Mary. The second Sunday of May, we celebrate Mother’s Day. Let’s pray for our Mothers deceased and alive; let’s pray for all those moms who suffer a lack of understanding at home, for those who are alone and abandoned, for those who suffer because of violence and abuse. May St. Mary be our light and example so we can recognize the efforts and sacrifices of our mothers in order to pay them back to with understanding, affection and the love they deserve. © J.S.
