The Sacraments at St. Aloysius Parish
Baptisms: We do not Baptize during Lent. The next available date for Baptisms is May 10. We generally baptize at
2:00 p.m. on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of most months. If you would like to arrange your baby's Baptism
please call the Parish Office. A baptism prep class is required.
Marriage: Couples should make arrangements and start Marriage Prep with the Parish Office at least one year in
advance of the planned wedding date and before finalizing any social plans. Couples must be registered at least
six months before booking their wedding.
Anointing of the Sick: No Longer Last Rites! If you are suffering from a terminal illness, have a chronic illness or
will be having surgery soon you can receive the Anointing of the Sick. There is no reason to wait until near death,
please call 732-370-0500 ext. 3.
First Communion and Confirmation: Please call Religious Education at 732-370-1515 ext. 311.
Adult Sacraments of Initiation (RCIA & Adult Confirmation Class): Please call Jen Perry ext. 205.
Reconciliation / Confessions: Saturday 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday: 10:00 a.m.

Homebound Eucharist: We can arrange for Holy Communion to be brought to homebound
parishioners or those at a nursing home or hospital. Please call Sister Eileen ext. 206.
Sponsor Certificates: Only eligible registered parishioners can be given certification to be a sponsor for Baptisms
and Confirmations. Please call the Parish Office for more information.

Dear Parish Family,
Holy Lent is a prayerful journey undertaken to help us grow as Christians, it can also be a time to make changes
and a time of transformation. Lent is a good time to take stock of our life and contemplate decisions for our
future. Change occurs in all walks of life: family, work, government and Churches.
By now most of you are aware that our Pastoral Associate, Jen Perry, has accepted an invitation from Fr. Jeff Lee to
be Coordinator of Children’s Catechesis at St. Mary’s Parish in Colts Neck. The new pastor there is an old friend
of Jen’s from their days together at St. Mary’s Church in Lakewood when Fr. Lee was Parochial Vicar and Jen was a
High School Youth Group Member. Fr. Lee is quite fond of Jen and whenever I am with him he asks for her. He
has been busy reorganizing the parish and building a new ministry team.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Jen to expand and grow as a Pastoral Minister in the Church. Though we will
miss her and her incredible encyclopedic knowledge, we wish her well in this new position. This is a very exciting
opportunity for her after serving in St. Aloysius, her only pastoral assignment, for 16 ½ years. She goes to a wonderful Catholic Community with a terrific pastor and a great staff. She will be a welcome asset to their pastoral
team. Please join myself and the staff in congratulating her on this new adventure and giving thanks to God for
her ministry here in our parish. She begins her new assignment on May 1.
As we say goodbye to one pastoral associate we also say hello to another. We welcome to our ministry team
Anthony Gaudino who is our new Pastoral Associate for Technology. Anthony comes to us from St. Mary’s Parish
in New Monmouth, NJ where he served as Parish Business Manager and prior to that ran a private technology support company for Churches. He will coordinate all technology, web, social media, security and IT infrastructure at
the Parish and School. He is married with two children and their spiritual home is St. Anthony of Padua Church in
Red Bank, NJ. Please join me in a warm St. Al’s welcome to Anthony!
A gentle reminder to make your Easter Duty (confession and reception of Holy Communion) anytime between
from Ash Wednesday through Pentecost, we are offering confessions Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Sunday morning at
8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. As well as on Friday during Stations of the Cross.

Confessions: This Sunday, March 22, two priests will be available for confessions 8:00 a.m.,
10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in the Church. Last chance for Confession before Easter will be Saturday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. Regular confession schedule will resume Saturday, April 11.
Soup & Stations - Every Friday, during Lent, we observe our practice of praying the Stations of the
Cross together. At 6:00 p.m. homemade soup will be served in the School Cafeteria followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. In keeping with Lenten regulations, this will be a meatless and simple
meal. Every Friday during Lent we will break bread and pray the Stations together. The soup will be
provided by the members of several of our parish organizations. This week the Music Ministry will provide the
soup. This Lent share common prayer and common meals…Live community! GO GREEN…Bring your own BOWL!
It is the job of the whole community to initiate those who are in the RCIA process. Lent
is a special time of preparation for the Candidates and Catechumens who are approaching the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Please pray for them every day throughout Lent.
Loving Lord, You call all people to You. Thank you for helping Meghan, Greg and Ivan to hear Your call and answer it. Keep them faithful to Your Word as we draw close to the Easter Sacraments. Bless their families, sponsors
and all who support them in their faith. Let this Lent and Easter be a time of spiritual growth and awareness of
Your presence. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
Food Stamps Assistance - a representative from the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will be in the Parish Office to provide assistance with Food Stamps applications or SNAP
(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The next date will be Thursday, March 26 from
Noon to 3:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary. All help provided is confidential. For more information please call

Come Home during Lent “ - Catholics Returning Home - Catholics who have drifted away from
church are invited to attend a 5 week informal but directed program that uses a welcoming
approach to encourage taking a second look at Catholicism today. The program continues this
Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Office. Please encourage your family and friends who might benefit
from this program to give it, to give us a try. To find out more information please call Bill at 917-751-5962 or call
the Parish Office.
The monthly meeting of the St. Vincent de Paul Society will take place this Monday, March 23 at 7:00
p.m. in the School Cafeteria. Volunteers are always in demand. Come to Monday’s meeting to learn how
you might become involved in this very good work.
Prayer Shawl Ministry - If you knit or crochet, come join us on the 4th Monday in the Parish Office
from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Our next meeting will take place on Monday, March 23. We will be making prayer shawls, "mini" prayer shawls and baby blankets. For information call Kathie Stasny at 732-367-7521.

We have many options for a long term remembrance of a loved one.
Annual Enrollment – 12 Masses celebrated the 1st Friday of each month at 8:00am ($25.00 donation for 12 Masses).
Spiritual Remembrance - remember a significant milestone for the living or deceased by dedicating the items we
use for worship. A card is provided noting the item and time of dedication, and the names are printed in the
bulletin.
The Gift of Bread and Wine – Can be offered for one week (Sunday through Saturday) for a donation of $50.00.
Devotional Lamps are silent sentinels lifting up our prayer intentions to the Lord even when we cannot be physically present in the church. You can honor or remember a loved one with one of the Devotional or Shrine Candles
in the Church.
Sanctuary, Blessed Mother and Holy Family Devotional Candles will be lit in honor or memory of your loved one
($25.00 donation for one week)
Shrine Candles – Located at the entrance of the Church, these candles will be lit in honor or memory of your loved
one and includes a label listing your loved one’s name for a period of one year ($250.00 donation per year)
Stars of St. Aloysius – Honor or remember someone who may have been a light in your life with a light pendant in
the church. There are a limited number of lights available in several areas of the church ($500.00 donation).

St. Aloysius Altar Rosary Society Essay Contest: Enter to win a one-time $1,OOO scholarship open to
all 8th grade girls in our Parish who plan to attend a Catholic High School in September, 2015. All
entries must be received in the Saint Aloysius Parish Office by May 1, Attention: Altar Rosary Society. All essays must include the student's name, address and telephone number. Essays are to contain
a minimum of 500 words about “Pope Francis, A Pope For Our Times”.
The Rosary Society has scheduled a trip to the TROPICANA CASINO, Atlantic City, for Tuesday, April
21, 2015. The bus will leave the Church parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and return at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are
$25 per person (Casino Bonus $25 Slot Play). For reservations, call Jean at 732-928-1351.
Little Children of God - Children from ages three to seven are welcome to participate in a Children’s
Liturgy of the Word at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass throughout the school year. The children are dismissed to the Old Church before the first reading, and then experience God’s Word through song,
games and crafts during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass. The children return to Mass after the Prayer
of the Faithful. Please Note: On Palm Sunday the children will be watching and participating in the Passion of Our
Lord acted out by friends and family members. There will be no Little Children of God Liturgy on Easter Sunday.

Faith Formation
Calling all RCIA Old Timers! If you have gone through the RCIA process or Adult Confirmation Classes at
St. Al's or any other Catholic parish, we would like to invite you to a monthly gathering of "Keeping Current" which meets every 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Office. We'll share our faith,
talk about our experiences since initiation, and engage in continued education in the faith. Our next session will be
Sunday, April 19. There is no need to RSVP, but if you'd like to, or like more info, please contact Jen.
Faith Sharing Group - The Merton Faith Sharing group meets each Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish
Office. All are welcome. If you would you like to be a member of this faith sharing group please call
Sister Eileen at the Parish Office on ext. 206.
God is Calling You!!!!! God calls each of us into a deeper relationship each day. If you are not Catholic, or
if you are a Catholic who has not received all of your Sacraments, come check out the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). See if full participation in the Church is what God is calling you to. Most Tuesday nights, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Office, we have informal sessions where you can come, ask
questions and find out if this is right for you. There is no commitment when you come to Inquiry, but if
you want to pursue initiation, we’ll tell you what steps need to be taken. Join us for Inquiry, check the parish website or call Jen for information. Our next meeting date will be Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Breaking Open the Word...At Church! For years, now, Sr. Eileen and Jen have been offering reflection
questions on the Sunday readings for families to share at home. After the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Jen offers an
opportunity to Break Open the Word at Church. Anyone who would like to is welcome to join Jen in the
Cafeteria for a quick exegesis (explanation of the readings) and some questions for faith sharing. The
whole thing lasts approximately 30 minutes. We will provide questions for all age groups. You can sit with your
family, grab a group of friends, or meet new people to share with. For more information, contact Jen at the Parish
Office. No need to register for this--it will be pretty informal. Just come on by, and if you want to, bring a Bible!
Protecting God's Children - Making the Church a safe environment for all, particularly children and at-risk
adults, is a major priority of the administration and staff of Saint Aloysius Church. Please take a look at the
posters and "Safe Environment & Standards of Conduct Policy" that are posted on the bulletin board in the

The contemporary band will be taking a break throughout the Lenten season. Other traditional music will be provided at Mass and we will return for the 12:30 p.m. Mass on Easter Sunday. New musicians and singers are encouraged to audition. Please contact Gina at

Bible Study - Meets most 2nd and 4th Tuesdays (10:30 a.m.-noon) and Wednesdays (7:00-8:30 p.m.) of
the month in the Parish Office. Our next meeting dates are March 24 and 25. The morning group is
studying Letter to the Hebrews and the evening group is studying Acts of the Apostles. Come for an

Annulment Information Sessions - For many people, the process of marriage annulment is very
mysterious, often accompanied by considerable misinformation. In order to dispel misconceptions, the
diocese sponsors Annulment Information Sessions annually in parishes within each county of the diocese.
St. Aloysius Parish is hosting the Ocean County session on Wednesday, March 25 from 7:30 - 9:00
p.m. The speaker for this session will be Deacon Joseph A. Hannawacker. For more information on this session or

Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Volunteer Courses - If you have a warm heart, a listening ear and the
gift of compassion you can make a difference in the life of a hospice patient or family member. Training
is being offered on Tuesdays March 24, 31, & April 7 in Red Bank or Wednesdays March 25, April 1 & 8 in

Support Groups - St. Aloysius Parish is offering monthly support groups that take place on
Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Office. Please come to the front door of the Parish Office. All
groups are confidential. 1st Wednesday of the month is: Divorced and Separated (Apr 1). 2nd week is
Drug and Alcohol Recovery (Apr 8), 3rd week is Bereavement (Apr 15), 4th week is Well Spouses (for

Breaking Open the Word at Home by Sister Eileen Ivory, O.P.
Jesus’ words can seem harsh at first hearing ”… unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground
and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” But now
is a good time to look around. Right outside of the doors of St. Al’s Church you can see daffodils poking up from
under the remaining snow. How did they survive this horrible winter? In a sense they died…they no longer look
like they did when they were first put into the ground. They don’t look like they will when they bloom. And when
they die they will go back into the earth for another winter to be born again and so on. This is the story of those
who follow Jesus; those who live their lives in imitation of Jesus.
Kids: Have you ever been disappointed about something and after awhile been able to see a good side of what
happened? What have you learned from that?
Teens: What ups and downs have you experienced in life? What lessons have you learned from these tough times?
Adults: What experiences of death and rising have you had? What life lessons can we learn from this Scripture
passage?
Women’s Club at Westlake - Women’s Scholarship Program - The Women’s Club at Westlake is
awarding scholarship grants to qualified female residents of Jackson, NJ, who are in need of financial
assistance, have been accepted into a post high school educational or training program, and meet
any one of the following categories:
- Currently completing high school, OR
- Currently working and planning to enroll in a program to enhance skills, make a career change, or desiring
further education, OR
- Not working but desiring job training skills or retraining, OR
- Registered in either public school or vocational school in a continuing education program

Update from Jean Semler, President of Change a Life Uganda - I am always humbled when
someone learns of ChangeALife Uganda's mission and is inspired to make a donation. We
were delighted to learn that following a presentation to St. Monica's Parish Knights of Columbus, the Knights will sponsor little Asaph who was featured in last month's bulletin, helping him achieve his dream of becoming a doctor. In addition, 10 Knights are joining
together to sponsor 10 year old Victoria, enabling her to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse. Victoria's father is
deceased and her mother is HIV+. These children we hope will follow in the footsteps of 13 year old Olivia who
was the top performing St. Lawrence School student on a national exam earning her a full scholarship to a prestigious secondary school. Without ChangeALife Uganda Olivia would would have dropped out of school in grade 5
and be married by the age of 15. Exciting things are happening at Change A Life Uganda thanks to our wonderful

Quinto domingo de Cuaresma
¿Jesús, nuestro Salvador, decidió morir en la cruz para que los humanos recibiéramos la salvación. Esta es la esencia misma del Evangelio. Él es la “semilla”
que cayó en la tierra y murió y produjo abundante fruto. Ahora, los que hemos
sido bautizados en su muerte y su resurrección estamos igualmente llamados a
entregarle nuestra vida —es decir, morir a la vida de pecado— para que también demos mucho fruto.
La idea de morir como un grano de trigo es algo que a veces nos atemoriza, porque el costo del discipulado nos
parece excesivo. Incluso Jesús, el Hijo de Dios, se sintió intimidado: “Ahora… tengo miedo” (Juan 12, 27), cuando
pensó en la agonía que tendría que soportar en Getsemaní; pero él sabía que por su muerte y su resurrección
mucha gente llegaría al Reino de su Padre.
El autor de la Carta a los Hebreos, refiriéndose a esta lucha de Cristo, explicó que el Señor “ofreció oraciones y
súplicas, con fuertes voces y lágrimas”, pero que “A pesar de que era el Hijo, aprendió a obedecer padeciendo, y
llegado a su perfección, se convirtió en la causa de la salvación eterna para todos los que lo obedecen” (Hebreos 5,
7-9).
Este es el fruto de la crucifixión de Cristo, la “hora” para la cual vino al mundo. Por su muerte, Jesús canceló la
deuda de pecado que nosotros debíamos pagar y ganó para nosotros la vida eterna. Dios Padre demostró la inmensidad de su amor estableciendo una nueva alianza con su pueblo, un pacto escrito en el corazón de los fieles
(Jeremías 31, 33). A diferencia de la antigua alianza, que fue quebrantada una y otra vez por el pueblo de Israel, el
nuevo pacto es inviolable porque no depende de la imperfección y la flaqueza del corazón humano, sino de la
presencia del Espíritu Santo, que concede la gracia a todos los que se acercan a Dios con humildad y confianza.

las 6:30 p.m. De igual forma si necesita una bendición a su casa, visita o guía espiritual puede coordinar los detalles
con él después de la misa.
●Toda persona que desea el beneficio de algún Sacramento debe estar registrada en nuestra comunidad por lo
menos con tres meses de anticipación al sacramento o servicio requerido. Pero para asuntos de matrimonio -se
requiere estar registrado mínimo un año, y se debe hablar con el sacerdote directamente.
Requisitos para el Sacramento del Bautizo:
1. Estar registrados en la parroquia por lo menos 3 meses antes del bautizo
2. Registro de nacimiento del bebe.
3. uno o dos padrinos.
Requisitos para los padrinos:
A. Traer carta de la parroquia a la que pertenecen
B. Estar soltero (a) o casados por la Iglesia, no se permite ser padrino (a) quienes viven en unión libre o casados
por lo civil.
C. Asistir a la charla pre-bautismal con los padres del bebe.
NOTA: los niños y niñas de siete (7) años en adelante que no hayan sido bautizados, deben ser inscritos por los
padres al catecismo antes de recibir los sacramentos.
