WE THANK YOU LORD, BREAD OF LIFE
I want to express my most profound and sincere gratitude to all who in
any way participated this past weeks during the festivities for the
celebration of our 10th year anniversary of Our Lady of the Angels
Parish. it was a special honor to be a part of this history, but most
especially because of what you could share with one and other to make
this time memorable. To all those who with their talents and services
contributed to the details of the altars, the flag bearers, carry our Blessed
Mother, arrange the beautiful flowers, all who gave their voices or played instruments, the
parish picnic and festival committees, the Knights of Columbus and all who organized the
dinner festivities; all those who shared their delicious recipes and traditional foods, the
cooks, and all who help sell it; all who prayed in honor of Our Lady of the Angels, “La
Negrita” (OLA/Costa Rica), and la Madonna Assunta di Casandrino, all who prepared the
beautiful floats and those who joined our procession; the servers and ministers who served
the Body and Blood of our Lord; to all who from the silence of their hearts and/or actions
participated in any way: THANK YOU!
I am so grateful for your presence throughout these celebrations. It is my first year and all I
can say is how truly captivated I am. We would also appreciate comments and suggestions
you may have for our future celebrations. Often we make comments in the moment but we
do welcome your thoughts and the best way to validate them would be through a note, an
email, or a call to the parish. Along with the parish committees we will take under
consideration both your positive and negative feedback so that in the future there is growth
and improvement in correcting errors and adding what may have been forgotten.
What a special opportunity of gratitude to
join the Liturgy and the Word to our
celebrations. Wisdom invites us to find
and fill ourselves with all that is good,
even the Psalm this week reminds us once
again, “taste and see the goodness of the
Lord”, in other words, if we know there is
God we should join and share, taste and
see.
I hope everyone has the opportunity to read the book we received and browse through the
folder of information on the parish and our diverse ministries and services. All that we do,
we do to be “filled with the Spirit.”
The Eucharist that we share week after week renews “Jesus’ miracle” and continues to
make present the celebration of over 2000 years. We feel once again His love, His
liberation, His forgiveness. What an honor and a blessing to be able to proudly say that we
are a part of His family, the Body of Christ, the Church.
Blessed Virgin Mary, ascended into heaven, intercede for us with a heart full of love before
your Son.
Fr. Caesar Rubiano.

LETTURA DEL GIORNO
A TAVOLA
Nella prima lettura di oggi, la
Saggezza e’ immaginata come una
donna ricca in padronanza e grazia.
Saggezza, dove possono mangiare e bere a sazieta’.
evitarle.

READING OF THE DAY
AT THE TABLE
In today’s first reading, Wisdom is
imagined as a woman rich in poise and
grace. She moves smoothly and
confidently about her temple-like
home. She doesn’t flutter about, nervous with worry.
Wisdom sends her maidens to invite all to her open
house. The guests do not possess any particular
genius or insight. They need only be a people of good
will and common sense. They are summoned to leave
behind foolishness and to find for themselves a place
at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and
drink deeply.
Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table of
the Eucharist. Jesus addresses those who seek to
understand his words and, sadly, those who seek to
avoid them. As people born of God, we are called
and equipped to seek God’s will and act on it.
First Reading: Proverbs 9:1-6; Second Reading:
Ephesians 5:15-20 Gospel: John 6:51-58
Wisdom has prepared a banquet of food and wine,
an image expressive of God’s communion with us.
For those who desire life. Jesus gives his own
flesh and blood. Thus we shall be filled with the
Spirit. From ORDO 2015
REFLECTION QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
LOAVES
AND
FISHES:
Once
again, our parish is hosting a
lunchtime meal for local needy
people on Saturday, 26 September
2015 at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Warren St. This
year we will be feeding hundreds of people soft
drinks, coffee, pencil points, meatballs & tasty cakes
as a dessert. After the meal is completed, each guest is
given a bag lunch to go. Since there are two settings,
one at 11:30AM & one at 12:30PM, much help is
needed to set tables, serve the meals and clean up after
each serving. To volunteer call Vivian Abbott at
291-1890 or Mary Massi at 610-1087 & more
details will be provided. (NOTE) Please help by
donating packages of Tastycakes or similar type
cakes. You can bring them to Mass on the weekend
of September 19 and 20. Your donations are much
needed. This is a great opportunity for our
students to do community service hours.

Hijo,
Padre Cesar Rubiano

LECTURA DEL DÍA
A LA MESA
En la primera lectura de hoy, la
sabiduría se presenta como una mujer
rica en aplomo y gracia. Se mueve
fácilmente y con confianza en torno a
su templo-hogar. No anda mariposeando, nerviosa
y preocupada. La sabiduría envía a sus doncellas a
invitar a todos a su casa. Los invitados no tienen
que tener ningún talento o conocimiento en
particular.
y beber a fondo.

VOTIVE CANDLES
Candle racks are placed in our
two churches on the side
altars (in front of the Blessed
Mother and the Sacred Heart)
and in the back shrines in
front of the images of our beloved saints. Please note
there are also shrines at St Joachim Church on both
sides of the Butler St. entrance. The offering to light a
candle is $3.00. Please take the time to pay a visit to
the saint of your devotion, say a prayer and light a
candle. Thank you for continuing our parish’s
devotions.
VELADORAS/CANDLES
VOTIVAS
Gracias
por continuar las devociones de nuestra parroquia.

THE MASS: GATHERING RIGHTS AND
STORY TELLING
Many of those who attend Mass regularly don’t always
remember the reasons behind the various actions of the Mass.
The basic “shape” of the Mass can be described as a meal.
When friends gather for a meal, they sit and talk. They then
move to the table, say grace, pass the food and drink, and
finally when the meal is ended they leave and go home. On
our “walk-through” of the Mass we will see ritual acts of 1)
the gathering, 2) storytelling, 3) meal sharing and 4) leaving.
The gathering brings us together into one body, ready to
listen and to break bread together. As we enter the Church,
there are holy water fonts available. We dip our right hand
into the water and bless ourselves in the form of the sign of
the cross as a reminder of our Baptism that brought us into the
family of God. In order to pay respect to the presence of
Christ in the tabernacle, we either genuflect or bow to the
altar before entering the pew. As Mass is beginning, we all
stand as this is the posture of Catholics at prayer. Often, at
Sunday or special celebrations, we sing together as a way to
unite our thoughts and voices in praise. When the priest
arrives at the altar, he asks us to begin the Mass with the sign
of the cross, again reminding us of our Baptism, and greets us
by saying “The Lord be with you,” which is an ancient
biblical greeting meaning hello, good-bye, etc. It is a wish
that the Lord be with us and a statement of our faith. We
respond “And also with you” where we return the hello, the
goodbye, the statement of faith. Depending on the type of
Mass or season, we may be asked to recall our need for
salvation or to sing or recite the “Glory to God in the
Highest.” The gathering rights end with the opening prayer to
which we respond “Amen”.
After the gathering, we are ready for storytelling, the stories
of God’s people, the Word of God, as related through the
Bible. For the readings from the Old and New Testament and
the Psalm, we are seated. We stand, in reverence, for the
Gospel, as we believe that this is the word of our Lord, Jesus
Christ. We are greeted with the words “the Lord be with
you.” The Gospel reading is introduced and, we, along with
the priest, or deacon, make a small cross on our foreheads,
lips and heart with our thumb, and pray that our minds, our
hearts and our lips are clean and that we are worthy to receive
the Word of God. The Gospel concludes with “The Gospel of
the Lord,” to which we respond, “Praise to you, Lord, Jesus
Christ”, proclaiming the presence of Christ in the Gospel. We
sit during the homily, which takes the word of the scriptures
and helps us to bring it to our life situation. After a few
moments, we thank God for His word, we stand and together
recite the creed, the statement of our faith that leads us to give
our lives to one another, as Christ gave His life to us.
The story telling portion of the Mass ends with the general
intercessions, petitions for our Church, for nations and their
leaders, for people with special needs and for the needs of our
parish community. We sit at the beginning of the preparation
of the gifts, which will be discussed next week.

Dear Friends,
As we approach the upcoming
“Jubilee of Mercy” announced by His
Holiness Pope Francis, the Diocese of
Trenton is offering a Diocesan-wide
pilgrimage to Rome and Italy April 4-14, 2016. Under
the direction of Father Jeffrey Lee, pastor of St. Mary
Parish in Colts Neck and Director of Diocesan

pilgrimage will be arranged by UNITOURS, a trusted

memorable pilgrimages all over the world.
As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I extend an
invitation to you to join me and Father Lee for an
experience you will never forget. What better way to

through the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in
Rome? We will pray together and enjoy all that Rome
and some great historic places in Italy have to offer.
Won’t
you
