We have 128 boys and girls receiving their First Communion this year. Our hope is that they will hunger to come back for many more. I hope all the families have a wonderful day together. Then this Wednesday evening, Bishop Malloy will be here to give the Sacrament of Confirmation to 90 young people making their commitment to our faith as adults. We ask that the Holy Spirit immerse you in Jesus’ love and that you always feel His presence in your hearts. Next Saturday, we’ll be celebrating all of our volunteers at a fun dinner run by our outstanding Gratitude and Hope Committee. This is always a great time so if you’ve volunteered in any ministry, please come! On Sunday, we will bless our motorcycles for a safe year of riding and enjoy the Knights of Columbus’ Best Pancake Breakfast Ever. I look forward to sharing with you all that we learn this week about engaging young people in our Church. I know a key is that we all adopt an demeanor of welcoming, learning, loving, sharing and compassion. Also we are grateful that Father Sherry came home for John Jelinek’s dad’s funeral yesterday and stayed to celebrate 8 AM Mass. We extend our condolences to John’s family after his father, Richard, died suddenly of a heart attack in his sleep. May he rest in peace. Have a Blessed Week! Page 4 The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry, IL We Share Our Blessings This week, our Parish Tithe will be given to Habitat for Humanity. Your Giving Helps Meet Basic Needs Your generosity to St. Vincent de Paul Society helps members of our community meet some of their very basic needs. Recently, several single working mothers asked for help with food and gasoline in order to get through the month. Vincentians always bring food on their visits to the needy; these basic staples are deeply appreciated by those whose budgets are stretched thin, ensuring that food is on the table. Your assistance helps these individuals maintain their dignity, continuing to work and feed their families. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9 Volunteer Opportunities in Liturgy Our liturgical ministries are in need of some dependable and joyful individuals (or couples) to commit to the Liturgy Ministry. Please pray and discern if you may be the people we are searching! Full training and support will be provided. Altar Server Coordinator trains and supports our young people in this important ministry. This person should relate well to children and parents alike, and be a patient teacher and mentor. Responsibilities include organizing training for new servers, refreshers for experienced servers, and encouraging new servers to join this ministry. Eucharist Minister Scheduler creates the Eucharistic Minister Roster every two months. The right person should be comfortable with computers (MS Excel or similar software) and have good communication and people managing skills.
