Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers,
Grandmothers & Godmothers
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers of our parish!
Though the modern celebration of Mother’s Day is less than
100 years old, by a stretch of history, one could say that its
origins go back to the Middle Ages. Christians at one time
celebrated a feast of Mary, the Mother of Christ, on the 4th
Sunday of Lent, and in England, this feast was adapted to
honor all mothers and became known as “Mothering Sunday”. The movement in America for a day set aside to honor
mothers, however, had its roots in 1872 when, in the decade
after the carnage of the Civil War, the writer Julia Ward
Howe encouraged mothers to rise up against war, and
suggested that they do so en masse on the 2nd Sunday in
June. Anna Jarvis, an American woman inspired to honor
her own mother’s achievements, took the lead in
encouraging Americans to honor their mother’s on that 2nd
Sunday of June, and she began the custom of Mother’s Day
Bouquets by having red carnations sent to decorate her
mother’s church in her honor. In 1914, President Woodrow
Wilson signed a resolution stating that Mother’s Day would
be celebrated nationally, not on the 2nd Sunday of June, but
on the 2nd Sunday of May. And so, once again we wish all
mothers a HappyMother’sDaytoday.

A Mom's Story
A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and
helpless?" God said, "Your angel will be there waiting for you and
will take care of you." The child further inquired, "But tell me, here
in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be
happy." God said “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile
for you and you will feel your angel's love and be very happy.” And
the child asked again, “And how am I going to understand when
people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your
angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will
ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach
you how to speak. "And what am I going to do when I want to talk
to you?" God said "Your angel will place your hands together and
will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?" God said,
"Your angel will defend you even if it means its life." “But I will
always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, “Your
angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way
to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At
that moment there was much peace in heaven, but voices from
Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God , if I am
to leave now , please tell me my angel's name." You will simply call
her, "MOM."

có mo voy a vivir tan pequeñ o e indefenso"? Dios dice, "tu Angel
y sonreı́r me hace feliz".
Dios
dijo:"tu á ngel te dirá las palabras má s hermosas y dulces nunca
escuchadas, y con mucha paciencia y atenció n, tu á ngel te
enseñ ará có mo hablar”. Y como voy a hacer cuando quiero
hablar con usted? Dios dice "tu Angel pondrá las manos juntas
y te enseñ ará có mo orar". "Quien me protegerá ?" Dios dice, "tu
"Dios,." Dı́game el nombre de mi Angel. Simplemente llamará a
ella, "Mamá ".

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit.
— John 15:16
As stewards and Disciples of Christ, we recognize that all
the goods and riches in our life are gifts from God.
Strengthened by the Eucharist, we respond God’s
generosity in our lives with gratitude by using and sharing
our gifts in service of others. Please share your gifts and
make a gift to the 2015 Cardinal’s Appeal. We would like
to thank those parishioners who have already made their
gift to this year’s Cardinal Appeal and encourage all to
consider making a gift to help our parish reach our goal.
