Anfahrt: Platz der Luftbrücke (U6), Mehringdamm (U6/U7) The BALLAD in the English speaking world is a story or other narrative form such as a poem set to music. THE BARDS In ancient times, before the invention of the printing press, indeed even before the widespread use of paper and quills, bards were travelling troubadours and important bearers of oral history, making events memorable through the use of poetic devices such as melody, rhythm and rhyme, contributing to the creation and passing on and down of collective history. Later a bard was a professional poet, employed to compose songs in praise of his master. If paid too little back then, the bard would take his or her revenge in a vicious satire - performed publically. Nowadays some bards have settled and put down roots, while others still travel the length and breadth of their country and across borders to earn their keep, just like their predecessors. Some choose to compose from personal experience, assuming some of their audience will recognise themselves in their ballads, while others may have a go at describing the bigger picture and may become poetic witnesses of our life and times. He has an extensive and incredibly diverse repertoire from folk through crooners and pop to gothic punk and comedy songs. He does not shy away from satire on the great themes of our times - just hear his satire of Putin. In fitting with the bardic tradition, he also works as a translator in five languages and sings in many more, writing his own stories and songs from his extensive travels. He recorded his latest Celtic Harp CD with Paul Rayner Brown (Executive producer for Sarah Brightman, producer Jools Holland Late). Ken has played support for renowned artists such as Fairport Convention and Gary Howard (Flying Pickets), and toured as a harpist for many acclaimed musicians and comedians. So he learnt the double bass and started playing in mainly busking bands around Europe. The next move saw him carefully crafting his: what he calls “song making up” thing, and believes that "most good art ties itself to a tradition" - with British folk being just that. Much of his material is based on his own personal experience. Auch du bist herzlich dazu eingeladen Geschichten beim OPEN MIKE zu erzählen, oder am kollektives Storytelling mit dem Publikum dabei zu sein. DIE BALLADE Im englischsprachigen Raum ist eine Ballade ist eine vertonte Geschichte oder narratives Gedicht, das gesungen oder in musikalischer Begleitung vorgetragen wird. DIE BARDEN Lange vor der Erfindung des Druckpresses und selbst vor der Verbreitung von Papier und Feder waren die Barden als wandernde Troubadoure wichtige Überlieferer von Geschehnissen. Durch das Rhythmisieren und Vertonen der Berichtserstattung beförderten sie das Erinnern, und die Übertragung von Ereignissen ins kollektive Gedächtnis. Später fanden die Barden auch Arbeit als Berufsdichter und -musiker, die im Auftrag ihrer Herren Lieder komponierten, oft zu deren Lob und besonderen Anlässen. Wenn die Auftraggeber nicht ausreichend zahlte, komponierte sie auch schon mal Satire, um sie öffentlich vorzuführen. Heutzutage sind einige Barden sesshaft geworden. Viele sind, wie die Barden von jeher, auf Wanderschaft weit über Landesgrenzen hinaus und erzählen von ihren Erfahrungen. Manche erzählen aus der ganz persönlichen Sicht heraus und hoffen, dass ihre Zuhörer und Zuschauer sich in ihren Texten wiederfinden, während wiederum andere Barden den großen Entwurf wagen und zu poetischen und kritischen Zeugen unserer Zeit werden können. Es folgen die BIOGRAFIEN DER GÄSTE ....Ken Parsons (Amsterdam/Berlin) KEN PARSONS Er ist Sanger, Dichter, Kabarettist, Musiker, Komödiant und Produzent von vielen beliebten Comedy Veranstaltungsreihen in Amsterdam und Berlin. Er schreibt eigene Lieder für Gitarre, die oft auf seine vielzeitige Erfahrungen und häufige Fernreisen beruhen. Er besitzt sowohl eine kristallklare sanfte Stimme für Chansons wie auch eine rauhe Stimme für Punk und Kabarett. Der ist mit keinen anderen Kabarettist zu vergleichen. Er hat keine Scheu davor, die großen Themen unserer Zeit anzupacken - ob er von der neuen Hipster-Szene in Neukölln, der kollektiven Familiendepression zu Weihnachten, oder Putins Eigenarten schreibt, seine Texte sind scharf, manchmal gar bissig, aber immer sehr unterhaltsam.
