FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear brothers and sisters in
Christ,

this Holy Christmas Season, to
extend God’s Blessings upon you
and your loved ones.
I would like to take this opportunity as well to say “Thank
You” for your continued support
to the parish. Special thanks to the Decoration
Team that worked so diligently to beautify our
Church as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ: Susan Crossley,

you to Brenda, Donald, Theresa Whiteman and
Guerlyne Bernard for leading the youth group
(E.P.I.C) and the Religious Ed Children into the
Christmas Show and Pageant; to the parents for allowing their children to be involved in the Church;
to the musicians, etc.
I hope you were able to enjoy the performances as
well as the celebration of the Greatest Story Ever
Told, “The Mystery of the Incarnation,” We must
be delighted in what God has done for us. With the
coming of Jesus Christ into our human nature, we
are able to enjoy and share the Divine Life with
Him forever.
Now, a piece of Good News is that in the Spring
the Parish will begin some work in the envelope of
the Church. By the grace of God and your participation in the process, we will see the difference.
So, let us continue to sing with the Angels who first
witnessed presence of Christ among us: Gloria in
excelcis Deo, et in terra pax!
Dearly in Christ,
Rev. Saint Charles Borno, Pastor

REFLECTIONS ON THE FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY
(December. 28, 2014)
Genesis 15, 1-6 + 21, 1-3; Psalm 105; Hebrews 11, 8-19; Luke 2, 22-40
Since Christmas we have been contemplating the mystery of
that luminous BIRTH in the Bethlehem manger. The NewBorn-Child is the fulfillment of the old promise made to
Abraham and David. Yet he is more than that. He is the
WORD MADE FLESH. Amazingly, the fulfillment outshone
the promise.
The first and the second reading evoke the figure of Abraham. His unshakable faith in God is stressed. He trusted
God’s promise that he would have a son even though he and
his wife had passed their ninetieth birthday. The explosion of
joy that burst from his heart when Isaac was born prefigures
the joy of the Church and that of Simeon as accounted in the
Gospel of the day. Like Abraham let us rejoice at Jesus’
birth. Like Simeon, the old man, let us see in this child THE
SALVATION, the light of the nations!
The virtues of Mary and Joseph radiate in the background.
They support each other; their commitment to each other is
faithful and indissoluble. Their love shines brightly as they
prepare for the infant a secure home where he will be able to
grow in physical strength and spiritual wisdom.

THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH
“Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “?And you yourself a
sword will pierce.”’ This old man in the Temple, a man filled with the
Holy Spirit, uttered these ominous, prophetic words. Right inth midst of a
religious celebration that would be considered a kind of parallel to Christian baptism, Simeon started talking about suffering. Although this might
have a put a damper on the joy of the occasion, it was nonetheless a precious moment. God was speaking through the mouth of the Spirit-filled
Simeon and actually doing Mary a great service. God was helping Mary
to prepare herself for what lay ahead. And the truth was, the road in front
of her family was destined to be marked by the cross.
Our families also bear this mark. Although in a different way from Mary,
we all have our crosses to deal with. Whether it be the sickness or death
of a loved one, conflicts among siblings or spouses or unexpected challenges like infertility or a lost job, no family is without its shares of trouble. As we navigate these difficulties, we would do well to remember
Simeon’s words to Mary suffering is going to happen, sometimes very
painful, heart-piercing suffering. But instead of being shocked or angry at
God, we can call to mind the fact that this is part of life in a fallen world.
We can also remind ourselves `that although Mary suffered when her son
suffered, she also rejoiced when he rejoiced. Ultimately, every cross she
bore as his mother was trumped in the end by the victory of the Resurrection. We share in this triumph as well. After all, our families are in the
loving care of a heavenly Father. We are not just the children of our parents; we are also the children of God.
