Beryl Bauer
Beryl Bauer of Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, was first elected to the FCL Board in 2003.
He represents the 22 retail co-operatives in FCL’s district 11, which covers northwest
Saskatchewan.
As an FCL Director, Beryl participates on the Board’s Social Responsibility Committee. In
addition, he is the FCL Board’s representative to the Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada and
the Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (acting as Chair since 2008).
Beryl has been a member of the Lake Lenore Agro Co-op Board of Directors since 1995.
He is also a founding member of the Lake Lenore Auditorium Co-op and the Lake Lenore
Grocery and Greenhouse Co-op. He served as President of the Auditorium Co-op for 25
years and has been President of the Grocery Co-op since its foundation in 1997. Beryl has
always been a very active promoter of co-op development, primarily in Saskatchewan, but
also nationally and internationally through his participation as a Board member of the Cooperative Development Foundation. In 1999, he was a recipient of the Saskatchewan Cooperative Enterprise Award. He received the Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of
Saskatchewan in 2005.
Beryl served as Vice-Chair of the Board of FCL for four years and represented FCL and the
CRS on the Canadian Co-operative Association for four years, serving as CCA’s Vice-Chair
for three of those years. Beryl was also the Vice-Chair of the Saskatchewan Co-operative
Issues Council which advised the Ministry of the Economy on provincial issues affecting coops and credit unions.
Over the years, Beryl’s other co-operative involvements have included being a member and
director of his local credit union and wheat pool. He is a longtime member of a local white
fishing co-op.
Beryl’s volunteer activities are centered on his community. He has volunteered as a coach
and official for various community sports, and has served in many executive positions for
numerous community organizations.
Beryl was a high school teacher for 27 years, and retired in 1997. He and his wife currently
operate a farm with their son in the Lake Lenore area, and have three grown children and
four grandsons.
