A Reflection From Your Pastor...
Parish Groups
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The Christmas Season continues today with the celebration of the Epiphany of the Lord.
Matthew's Gospel makes it clear that even from the very beginning Jesus came to save all
people of the world. It was through the chosen people of Israel through whom and from
whose history this revelation was to be known. Thus, we have magi representing all the
known world at the time, making their way to Jesus' humble place of birth. We, too, as a
Bible Study & Book Club universal Church and we here at St. Pius come from many cultural backgrounds, speak variFr. Paul Rossi x117
ous languages and enjoy certain traditions and customs special to our unique heritages; yet,
[email protected]
we are called to be one in Christ. Through the waters of Baptism and the gift of the Holy
Grief Support Ministers Spirit we are called to be a People of God united as one in Jesus Christ. We are not to live in
some form of forced uniformity; rather, we are called to live and celebrate our God-given

(650) 361-0655
diversity of gifts as one baptized people in Christ, the Lord. What a wonderful experience of
Italian Catholic Federation the Holy Spirit bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and leading us into the
Family of God. I hope the spirit of our Epiphany celebration today has a wonderfully long

and lasting effect on our parish and that of the universal Church. May we see ourselves in

the Magi, seeking the Lord wherever he may be found.

I want to again encourage parishioners, especially younger women and men, to seriously
consider joining our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Society does the work of the
gospel. The joy of serving and providing for the basic needs of others in our parish and surrounding area will be quite rewarding. You also will be able to collaborate with some wonderful parishioners who have been serving in this ministry for many years. Please contact
me if you are interested in this parish ministry and the spirituality which gives the ministry
such a solid foundation.
St. Patrick's Seminary is preparing to sponsor once again this year a Discernment Retreat
Weekend, January 16-18, 2015, for single men considering a vocation to the priesthood. If
you know of any single men whom you might possibly consider good candidates for the
priesthood, you are most welcome to pass on this invitation and information to them. Please
let me or Fr. Tom Martin know of your possible interest and we will assist you in registering for the weekend. There is no fee to attend the retreat. All those interested in attending
need to register in advance. Men can also contact Fr. David Schunk, Archdiocesan Director
of Vocations, directly for more information at 415-614-5683 or
[email protected].
Just a reminder: Fr. Coleman is away from the parish until April 30 and Fr. Martin Muruli,
who is on vacation visiting his family in Kenya, will be returning to the parish January 22.
Please pray for both priests as they travel and are away for this time.
I hope you had a wonderful New Year's celebration. May this coming year be a time of
abundant blessings for you, your family and loved ones
and for our parish family of St. Pius. God bless you all.
Sincerely in our Lord,
Fr. Paul Rossi

the year, we encourage you to check out our electronic
giving option. As the pace of life speeds up around the
holidays, you may find electronic giving a welcome way to
make contributions. To give electronically, visit the

comfort those who mourn as we look
forward together to a time when all tears
are dried and our families are whole once
again.
