About RSS
Structure of the event
The Department of Chemical Engineering at
IIT Bombay was started in 1958, with the
assistance from the erstwhile Soviet Union
under a UNESCO aid scheme. Over the
years, the department has grown as a
homogeneous entity with state-of-the art
facilities to address contemporary research
interests. The research in the department
covers a wide spectrum of frontier and
traditional areas of chemical engineering
such as-
Academia has always been considered as a
bastion of research. Current trends in
Indian industries are also oriented towards
R&D activities. It is therefore of mutual
interest for both of these sectors to interact
as their activities are complementary in
nature. RSS started its journey in 2007,
with a vision to provide this synergistic
dimension to the research being conducted
by PhD students of the department and the
industry bodies. It conglomerates the
presentation of departmental research
activities to the industrial delegates with
that of the R&D activities of the industries.
This annual event is solely organized by
PhD students of the department under the
aegis of Chemical Engineering Association
(ChEA), IIT Bombay. As we step into yet
another year, RSS– 2015 aims to be more
vibrant by carrying forward and
accomplishing the visions of this event by
ensuring more participation and better
interaction with the industry.
Oral Presentation: Four sessions comprising
of about four speakers each.
Poster Presentation: This session is the key
aspect of the event as it gives a detailed
view of the completed as well as ongoing
research in the department.
Invited lectures: Distinguished personalities
will address the participants. The main
sponsors will be given a platform to express
their ideas about research and expectation
from academics.
Panel Discussion: Eminent personalities
from academia and industry are invited to
share their views on a certain theme
pertaining to collaborative research. The
discussion aims at chalking out road map
for a better alliance between the two.

Research Scholars
The department has approximately 150
PhD Scholars pursuing research in the
above mentioned areas. Their research
activities, carried out with the able
guidance of the faculty members of the
department have resulted in very highimpact publications and patents. Their
works have been recognized at national
and international levels through various
student research awards, conferences and
publications in reputed journals, resulting
in higher number of citations.
Benefits
 Industry gets a glimpse of the ongoing
research in the department.
 Interaction between industry and the
department increases the possibilities of
research collaborations.
 Employers get acquainted with the
work of their prospective employees.
