PURPOSE The National Watercolor Society presents the best of water media painting, representing a wide range of directions and techniques, from experimental to traditional, and encourages support for watercolor as a vital, enduring and expressive medium. Please note: No painting that has been "juried" into a National or International Exhibit is eligible. A National or International Exhibit is any exhibit that accepts entries from national & international artists with no requirement of organizational membership or state residency. SELECTION JURORS Katherine Chang Liu, John Salminen & Carole Barnes; Alternates: Donna Zagotta, Linda Baker, & Ratindra Das AWARDS JUROR Jean Stern has been the executive director of The Irvine Museum since its inception in 1992. An art historian and a recognized authority on California Impressionism, he has extensive experience as an author, curator, lecturer, and teacher. He has taught art history at Mesa College, in San Diego, and at San Diego State University. He was executive director of Petersen Galleries, in Beverly Hills, from 1979 to 1991. He is the author of numerous books and articles on California art, including monographs on important artists such Franz A. Bischoff, Alson S. Clark, Sam Hyde Harris and Elsie Palmer Payne. He has written essays for numerous books and museum exhibition catalogues, such as all three PLEIN AIR PAINTERS of CALIFORNIA series of books; GUY ROSE: American Impressionist; ENCHANTED ISLE: A History of Painting on Santa Catalina Island; CALIFORNIA: This Golden Land of Promise (co-authored with Joan Irvine Smith) and FRANZ A. BISCHOFF: The Life and Art of an American Master, published in 2010. His latest book, CALIFORNIA LIGHT: One Hundred Years of the California Art Club (co-authored with Molly Siple) was published in 2011 by Rizzoli International Publications, NY, to positive critical revue. Rules & Regulations: You must click the Agree Buttons on the entry form to confirm you agree to all the rules and regulations below. The 2014 Annual Exhibition is open to all artists. Paintings must be primarily water-based media on a paper surface and unvarnished (Yupo & Tyvek are permitted). Other media, if used, must be in conjunction with the water media. The water media must be the dominant element. No digital media, photography, prints or reproductions may be used anywhere in the painting. No work that has been previously juried into "any" national or international show may be entered. Work must have been completed within the last two years. Paintings done in a class or workshop setting may not be submitted. Source material must be original and not derived from any published images SALES AND LIABILITY: All work MUST be for sale. The National Watercolor Society is responsible for all sales and will retain a 30% commission. Although the utmost care will be taken in handling paintings and shipping containers, NWS and its representatives cannot be responsible for damage or loss, whatever the cause. Artists should carry their own insurance. FRAMING LIMITATIONS: Minimum Image Size: 9" x 12". Maximum Frame Size: 40" x 40". The frame must be simple but sturdy enough to support the artwork without buckling the Plexiglas. No glass will be accepted. Diptychs and triptychs must be mounted within a single frame. The painting must be ready for hanging with wire and secured under rigid Plexiglas. No saw tooth hangers. Mats, if used, must be a white or light neutral color unless an integral part of the artwork. AGREEMENT: Submission of this image, if accepted by the Jury of Selection, shall constitute an Agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth in this Prospectus, including the following: I hereby release and discharge the officers of National Watercolor Society (NWS) and its representatives and employees from any and all claims occasioned by damage or loss of said painting while in the possession of NWS. *No work previously juried into any NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL EXHIBIT is eligible. A National or International Exhibit is any exhibition open nationally or internationally to all artists with no membership or state residency restrictions. *No work accepted for the Annual Exhibition may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition. *No painting price may be changed after submission is complete. *Permission to reproduce the painting in the catalog of and for publicity purposes is granted. *Permission to use this image for educational and promotional purposes is granted. I realize if my work is selected and I withdraw, or it does not meet eligibility requirements set forth in the prospectus including that it has not been juried into any National or International Exhibit, I will be "disqualified immediately" and any award given will be rescinded and I will not be permitted to enter again for two years. NOTIFICATION: Artists whose submissions are accepted in the initial jury process will receive instructions for shipping and delivery. Accepted list will be posted on our website by August 20. Instructions for Entering Images in the 2014 NWS International Open Exhibition Online You must be logged in to pay the member’s reduced rate for this exhibition. Some steps take time depending on the speed of your computer and internet service. Log in and click on the button on Home Page that says Click Here to Enter, then click the Register Button. If it doesn’t like your email you are probably already in our database, email me [email protected] and I’ll send you your password. Choose type and hit next to continue. Fill in all information required. Then after clicking the box next to Painting Image click the green text. You will be taken to another page called Entry Images. 1. Go to the bottom of this page and Click the MY PHOTOS BUTTON. If All Photos button is clicked you will see many other photos. 2. Click the UPLOAD PHOTOS box below. You will be taken to a new page called Upload photos. If needed, move the box by holding down on green top bar to move it so you can continue to see directions. 3. Click the CHOOSE FILE Box. (Find the image you want to upload and click on it, then click CHOOSE at the bottom of the page) 4. When you see the Image Name in the box next to the CHOOSE FILE BOX click the UPLOAD IMAGE box at the bottom of the Upload Photos Window. 5. Please wait for image to upload. You should see it on this page. BE PATIENT. You have now uploaded your image and are done with this step. NO, you will not see the image again on any other page. It uploaded into a NWS Exhibition Entry Photo Album where we will store all the images. 6. Close the image browser window and return to the registration browser window to continue with your registration. In Safari, you will see several tabs at the top. To close Click on the x in the one that says 2014 NWS International Exhibition – Entry Images or the window that is open or is highlighted. In Firefox, just close the one that is Entry Images or the window that is open or is highlighted. It is usually the last tab on the right. 7. If all fields are filled in on the registration window including the Agreement Check and the Painting Image Check then Click the NEXT button. You will not see your image here, don't worry. 8. Review and Confirm, check that all information is correct and then click the CONFIRM button. 9. Follow PayPal Instuctions to pay your $40 non member or $25 member entry fee . You will receive an email telling you your registration is complete. Again you won't see your image on the registration confirmation. This is a automatic system message. If you do not receive an email, please let us know as your registration somehow isn't complete. Call Linda at (424) 225-4966; Mon Sat 10am to 4pm.
