In The Deacon's Journal Deacon Jim has
been reflecting upon the disconnect we
may all feel between the frenetic lifestyle
most of us live, especially at this time of
year, and the spirit of the Advent season. The Advent
season can “come and go,” as he said, without our
spirit even touching the meaning of Advent. If you
have not yet done that, you still have a few days before Christmas to be quiet - be still - be reflective - listen with your heart - to the kind of preparation you
need in order to authentically celebrate the incarnation
of our God.
We wish you the choicest blessings of Christmas. May
you know so many of the gifts associated with this season. Included among them are peace in your heart,
renewed faith and hope for our lives and the future of
the world. Try to put the brakes on that frenetic lifestyle and enjoy the presence of family and friends. Fr.
Dwayne, Fr. Kyle and all your parish staff.
Fr. Dwayne, Fr. Kyle and all the staff at Holy Spirit Parish wish you a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
Parish News
The parish office will be closed on Dec. 24, 25 & 26.
Happy Holidays!
THROUGH
THE WATERS OF BAPTISM WE WELCOME INTO
OUR PARISH COMMUNITY:
Perri Elaine Hatcher, daughter of Richard & Kristy
EVENING PRAYER with Eucharistic Adoration: Sunday
afternoon, 4:00 pm at Holy Ghost. This is a peaceful
time of prayer - a good way to close Sunday and
prayerfully prepare for the coming week.
2014 STEWARDSHIP: All donations you want listed on
your 2014 statement must be in the parish office by
December 30. Parish Office will be closed December
31.
THANK YOU! “We can certainly call you friends because of the way you care for our retired members,”
writes a religious brother. Your gift to last week's collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious benefits
some 35,000 senior sisters, brothers and religious order
priests. May God bless you for your generosity!
Holy Spirit Parish CEW’s will be held in March 2015.
Women’s weekend, March 6-8 and the Men’s weekend March 13-15. Forms are available at each church
entrance. What a wonderful Christmas gift to give
someone!
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UP: As of our last up date,
we were at $363,062. We have received additional cash & pledges of $100 and as of December 11, 2014 and our elevator fund total is
$363,162 which puts us at 76% of our goal of
$480,000. We now have a new opportunity due to a
generous donation by the Gantz Foundation/Pepsi.
They will match new donations up to $20,000. In
addition, gifts made before the end of 2014 will not
only benefit the parish, but may also provide an additional tax deduction for you.
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS & FLOWERS: We will be
taking donations for Christmas flowers & decorations for each of our church sites. If you
would like to make a donation in memory or in honor
of a loved one, please put your donation in an envelope marked “Christmas Decorations” and include the
name(s) of your loved ones. Thank you for your generosity.
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PARISH AT CHRISTMAS.
There's Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Green Tuesday...how about "Remember Your Parish at Christmas"
Day?! End-of-the-year contributions can be a parish's
Black Friday. This time of year we are all besieged
with financial appeals from every direction. I do believe that supporting our parish should be among our
top priorities. Thank you for whatever you can do to
support Holy Spirit Parish. Blessings to you!

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM POPE FRANCIS: For the first
time in history the Pope gathered leaders of the
world's major religious leaders in the Vatican with the
aim of eliminating modern slavery and human trafficking. A Declaration of Religious Leaders Against Slavery was signed by Pope Francis, along with eminent
Orthodox, Anglican, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and
Hindu representatives, to eradicate, by 2020, modern
forms of slavery and human trafficking. Sun., February
8, 2015 has been declared by United States Conference
of Catholic Bishops as a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER:
for victims and survivors of human trafficking. Pope
Francis declared, "In the eyes of God, each human being is a free person, whether girl, boy, woman or man,
and is destined to exist for the good of all in equality
and fraternity..."
NEW YEAR’S BINGO: Thur., Jan. 1 at Holy
Ghost in Paraclete hall. Doors open at
10:00am; early games 12:15pm, regular
bingo 1:00pm. Come and bring your
family and friends.
Notice: There will be no bingo on Tuesday’s December
23 or December 30th.
IF YOU ARE A HOME OWNER you know that keeping
buildings in good shape is a never-ending task. Multiply that many times over for our three church sites!
We try to be as aggressive and proactive as funds allow. Your pastor believes in preventive maintenance,
instead of just letting things go beyond the point of
reasonable repair. Here are some of the major projects we have completed in 2014:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Deep, intense cleaning at Holy Trinity
Keeping the grounds in a welcoming, attractive
condition
Painted lines at Holy Ghost parking lot
Repaired six windows at Sacred Heart
Painted the vestibule and part of the north transept
at Holy Trinity.
Repaired the front entrance thresholds for Sacred
Heart (This will need a little further follow up in
the spring.)
Repaired a main steam pipe from the boilers in the
school to the church at Sacred Heart (This, of
course, was an unexpected, unplanned and unwanted project!)
Replaced burned out bulbs in the front entrance of
Sacred Heart. This was not a big project but when
the bulbs burn out the next time we will need to
replace the sockets because this size bulb is no longer manufactured.

Time
In the first reading, God promises King David that his
house and his kingdom will endure forever. It is through
Mary’s “Yes”—“I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be
done to me as you say.”—that the promise finds fulfillment.
