Summary of Position
Assistant Pastor/Director of Discipleship and Fellowship
Purpose
The Assistant/Director will have primary responsibility in Discipleship and secondary
responsibility in Fellowship. He/She will lead the Discipleship and Fellowship ministries of the
church by actualizing The Great Commission and living out the commission of Matthew 28 and
supporting the mission and vision of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood.
Essential Functions and Primary Tasks
 Lead, assist and encourage directors of discipleship ministries in the recruitment of
leaders
 Train and resource teaching team members in each ministry as needed
 Develop, facilitate, and implement a unified plan for Discipleship for the entire
congregation
 Schedule and facilitate weekly meetings to align and unify directors to maximize church
discipleship ministries
 Provide continuing education opportunities to volunteers, staff and congregation
 Serve as a resource for church members in the areas of bible study, spiritual development,
and personal discipleship
 Teach courses as needed to support discipleship strategy
 Evaluate curriculum and keep record of material that proves to be useful and meets the
standards set by both the discipleship plan and the reformed tradition
 Connect personal discipleship, community, mission and worship in order to develop a
strategic plan for discipleship
 Create, organize and maintain small groups, connecting new members to groups to best
fit their desires and needs
 Recruit, train and equip small group leaders and champion participation in small groups
throughout the congregation

Shepherd the fellowship of the church to enhance church unity by enabling those who
attend church or other activities to know each other and develop a sense of relationship
with one another and with Christ. Additionally, enable our congregation to have fun with
each other through special events.
Administrative Responsibilities
 Serve as staff liaison to the Children, Student and Adult Discipleship Committees
alongside other staff who serve in those areas
 Complete monthly expense report
 Submit a monthly stewardship report of activities and plans to the Session
Other Duties
 Child Protection Policy – Adhere to church’s Child Protection Policy and its reporting
procedures. Cooperate with periodic background checks and training in order to
proactively protect children. No prior history of sexual misconduct.
 Church Budget – Manage budget and expenses related to area of leadership and ministry.
 Church Policies and Procedures – Each employee is responsible for adhering to all
church policies and procedures.
 Professional Organization – Network with other similar church staff in an organized
setting to gain and share resources and information.
 Staff Meetings – Attend regular and special staff meetings.
 Other Duties – Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Skills and Educational Requirements
 M.Div or M.A. Degree
 Strong verbal and written communication skills
 Demonstrated skill in engaging students and adults
 Good organizational skills
Organizational Relationship
The Director reports to the Senior Pastor maintaining collaborative relationship with church
staff, membership, visitors, the community and outside vendors.
