Solemnity of the Epiphany - St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church

Solemnity of the Epiphany
Maybe you have seen the quote, “Wise men still seek him.” I like that quote a latte!!! Today we celebrate the
wise men seeking the baby Jesus and finding him. And when you find Jesus it makes all the difference. And
until we find him, meet him, and truly know him, what hope does this world afford?
I am blessed, blessed, blessed. I had the opportunity for an incredibly profound experience one Christmas. I
went to prison. Yes, I got to go to prison- and they let me out, too! Seriously, I was able to offer a mass for
minimum-security prison at Coffee Creek. Wow! The stories we heard. The grace that touched us, moved us
and is still working on our souls. Every one of the eleven inmates was so grateful that a few of us were there
to celebrate mass with them. I have not been around such concentrated gratitude for a long time. The inmates
shared how being in prison can be like you are on an extended retreat- if you take it that way. I saw broken
lives open to the infinite river of grace and God gushing forth from these women. Several talked about how,
when they were on the outside, they were not free but that now they are free being in prison. That doesn’t
make sense, does it? But freedom is about knowing that you can never be in prison when you are with Jesus. Freedom is about knowing that, even though you may be in a physical prison, you can invite Jesus to
come and unlock the doors of your spiritual prison. Freedom is knowing that you do not have to serve destruction and you choose to come more and more into the good. Freedom is knowing that you are loved, blessed,
and forgiven- all the way to heaven. Freedom is knowing that Christmas happens every day of the year at St.
Joseph The Worker and in our lives- all the way to the Eternal Christmas in heaven.
Talk about an Epiphany! Talk about the manifestation and revelation (which are the meanings of the word
“Epiphany) of God in our lives!
One woman shared a pearl with us that I want to share with you, “Whoever seeks the most, finds the most!!!”
What is it that you seek? Do you find that which you are seeking after?
The wise men found what they were truly seeking for when they found the baby Jesus.
Wise men still seek him.
Whoever seeks the most, finds the most.

Peace and Justice Monday Jan 5,
7PM, Speaker Steve Kimes from Anawim
community will present. He comments,
“The poor shall always be with you.” Jesus
said this but he didn’t mean it as an excuse
to ignore them. They should actually be
with us! We have to admit, however, that
poverty is an enormous monster and we
only have a toothpick of resources to battle
it with. What can we do? What should we
do? Can we be both compassionate and
wise? Deacon Mike
