PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
Hello Fairview Families!
What an awesome October we have
had so far!! Our Orange Ruler Fund
Run was a huge success! Thank you to
all our parents, students and teachers
who helped us raise almost $27,000!!!
We are so proud to be able to donate
$1,000 of that to charitywater.org.
Thank you Lisa Lundvick & Cindy
Mosley for organizing the Fund Run!
We also had our annual Pumpkin Fest
last Friday with lots of fun, painted
faces, colorfully decorated pumpkins
and yummy treats. A shout out to
Kim Grana and Lisa Smorczewski for
planning another Spooktacular event!!
Halloween is just around the corner.
All of our room parents are planning
fun games and crafts for our classroom
parties next Friday.
Our 5th graders had a great time at
the 5th Grade Challenge Course this
month too. Many thanks to our 5th
Grade Activity Committee Chairs:
Lisa Lundvick, Samantha Funovits,
Anita Chapman, Eileen Kowalczyk
and Michelle Tuchner. The kids are
looking forward to bowling at Brunswick next month!!!

TURN IN YOUR BOX TOPS NOW FOR THE FALL SUBMISSION! The Box Tops program has helped Fairview buy a lot of new equipment for the kids and we want to have a big year again this year. Counting the box tops take our volunteers a ton of time. This year we are asking for you and your children to attach your box tops to the next page with tape. It is easier for our volunteers to look over the sheets than to count each and every little tiny box top. IT IS THIS EASY… Fairview received $2,135 from Box Tops last year! Let’s try to beat it for the 2014-‐2015 school year. 1. Print copies of the next page and TAPE your box tops to it. Glue isn’t as secure the cardboard types fall off easily. 2. Please do not include any expired box tops and do NOT staple them! 3. Send to the office or put in the bins in the office. 4. Each sheet = $2.50 for the school! This is an easy activity for your kids to do, remind them that doing this helps them get new gym equipment, music equipment, etc. They benefit by helping out. There will be extra printed sheets near the collection bins located in the front office if you need extra copies. Of course we won’t turn away any little baggies of box tops so if you don’t have the time to tape them it is ok! We appreciate your help in making this year so successful! This is the first month of our Book It! reading incentive program. You are invited to read, fill in the reading log, and earn a free personal pan
pizza coupon from Pizza Hut if you reach or exceed our October reading goal of 360 minutes. Your name will also go up on your grade’s Book
It! poster in the LRC when you turn in your first completed reading log. Read all six months and you may win a special prize (see below.)
Q - Who can participate in the Book It! reading program?
A – All of the students at Fairview School are invited to participate.
Q – How do I participate?
A – Each day you read at home, fill in this reading log by recording the minutes you spend reading. Count up the total number of minutes you
read during the month, fill in your first and last name, have an adult sign to verify the log and bring it to the LRC.
Q – Do I have to wait to the end of the month to turn in my log?
A – No, you can turn in your log as soon as you reach or exceed the monthly goal. Be sure you have met or exceeded the goal before you turn in
your log. Your log must be turned in by Friday, November 7.
Q – Do I have to read and fill in minutes every day?
A – No, you do not have to read every day. You will be able to exceed this month’s goal by reading 20 minutes a day five times each week.
If you read more than 20 minutes a day, you may read way beyond our goal!
Q – Some days my teacher gives me a homework assignment to read 15 or more minutes at night. Can I count that reading time when I fill in
the Book It! reading log?
A – Yes, you can count that time if you are reading outside of school hours. Any reading done at home counts.
Q – I like to read comic books and graphic novels, or nonfiction books. Can I count the time I read them, too?
A – Yes, you can count the time you read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books. Any kind of reading counts.
Q – Is there a special reward for reaching the reading goal for all six months?
A – Yes, students who reach the goal and submit their logs for all six months (October – March) will be entered into a Fairview School
Book It! readers’ drawing for a special prize. The grand prize is a Barnes and Noble gift certificate.
Do you have other questions about Book It? Contact Mrs. Potratz in the LRC or at [email protected].
