Today
Welcome: We extend a warm welcome to our visitors, friends
and members. Thank you for coming to worship with us today.
We trust that you will be blessed. Today, we welcome our two
guest speakers, Pr Rod Anderson and Diego Vasquez.
Pr Anderson is the pastor of "The Orchard", a church that
meets in the Melbourne CBD. Diego is youth elder at Springvale
Spanish Church.
Lunar New Year: To our members and friends of
Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese heritage, we wish you a
Happy New Year. Pr Stenio also conveys his special greetings to
you. At the front of our church, we continue the tradition
of including words of encouragement and hope for the new
year. The words on the left have the following meaning:
"Remember how prophets describe signs of the soon coming of
Jesus". The words on the right have the following meaning:
"Persevere in teaching children the everlasting love of God".
The streamer has the following meaning: "Continue the
tradition, forge ahead into the future".
Church potluck: We invite everyone to stay and
fellowship over lunch today. Thank you to those who brought
food for our potluck lunch today.
Coming up
The Upper Room Service: For all those who attend the
Upper Room service next Sabbath, February 8th. We have a
continuation of that morning’s service in the afternoon, soon
after lunch in the main sanctuary. Please plan to attend
part 2 of the presentation in the afternoon (whether you
attended the morning program or not), so you don’t miss out
on a double blessing next Sabbath.
AYC CONVENTION 2014: Gateway Adventist Centre and the
Victorian Conference invite you to attend AYC Convention
2014 to be held at Melbourne Town Hall from 13th to the
16th of February 2014.
Registration is still open

From the pastor's desk: "The Paradox of our Time": The paradox of
our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter
tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more,
but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses
and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have
more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment;
more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh
too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late,
get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too
seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our
values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added
years to life, not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon
and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new
neighbour. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up
the air, but polluted the soul. We've split the atom, but not our
prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build
more computers to hold more information to produce more copies
than ever, but have less communication. These are the times of fast
foods and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep
profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world
peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds
of food, but less nutrition. These are days of two incomes, but more
divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of
quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one-night
stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to
quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the show window and
nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this
letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this
insight, or to just hit delete. By George Carlin a comedian 1937 2008

Food for thought: “Know the true value of time; snatch, seize and
enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no
procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”
British statesman Lord Chesterfield (1694-1773).
