She was our dear friend, colleague, and treasurer. ASQ Raleigh wishes to express our deepest condolences to Stephanie’s family, friends, and colleagues. Stephanie was the Quality Assurance Manager at Grifols Plasma Operations. With a degree in Chemistry, she also had experience as an Analytical Chemist in the Precious Metal and Chemical industries, Laboratory Supervisor, Quality Manager, Supply Chain Manager and Transportation Manager. She was an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt and had been active with the Leadership of the Raleigh ASQ Section since 2006. Matt Demko, Pam Schodt, Frank Gray, and Francis Ignacio (picture shown) attended the event. They sorted and bagged th 2,000 servings of grape-tomatoes that were sent to agencies for distribution Monday, Sept 29 , and of course they wore protective gloves. We look forward to having you volunteer for our next event at the Food Bank of Eastern & Central North Carolina Saturday, Nov. 15th, from 9am-12pm. Registration is available on our website. Join us in helping the hungry in our state as we approach the holiday season. Family and friends are welcome; children must be 12 or older and accompanied by an adult. ASQ Raleigh Section Newsletter Page 4 Six Sigma Special Interest Group We feel we have had another successful year with our Six Sigma Special Interest Group (Six Sigma SIG). Six speakers presented a varied array of topics to our group and there were lots of discussions and learning that took place in the process. Looking forward we would like to put some dates out there for everyone to save for next year. Please save the following dates for our 2014/15 Six Sigma SIG. 10/28/2014, 11/25/2014, 1/27/2015, 2/24/2015, and 3/31/2015. It also looks like all of these meetings will occur at Gregory Poole Equipment Company located at 4807 Beryl Road in Raleigh. If you or one of your coworkers would like to present to our group next year we would really appreciate your support. If you had a successful project in the past or are currently working on an interesting problem we would love to hear your story. Recertification applications can be submitted up to six months in advance of the recertification due date. There is also a six month grace period for submission of recertification applications after the recertification due date. ASQ Raleigh Section Scholarship “Got Quality?” The ASQ Raleigh section has established a scholarship to encourage students who seek a career that incorporates quality concepts, technology, and tools to improve the workplace, products, and themselves. The ASQ Raleigh Section scholarship of $500 per semester ($1000 annually) will be awarded to an eligible Raleigh section member or an individual sponsored by an eligible Raleigh section member. Applications are currently being accepted for the Fall 2014 – Spring 2015 semesters. The scholarship is open to persons enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate field of study at an accredited university or college. The application form and the requirements for selection are located on the Raleigh ASQ website, along with directions for submission of completed applications. The deadline for submission is October 17, 2014 with award notification on November 7, 2014. Please submit an electronic copy of your award application [including transcript and letter(s) of recommendation (maximum of 3 letters)] to Wendy Haines at [email protected] by October 10, 2014. All award recipients will receive free admissions to all ASQ Raleigh Section Dinner Meetings for a year.
