Jen Barry Baltrus, DVM Clinic September 26-28, 2014 Hosted by Finally Farm 5533 Yates Mill Pond Road Raleigh, NC 27606 Jen Baltrus has been riding since the age of three. She grew up on a family farm in NJ and as a junior had done everything from short stirrup to medal/maclay to jumpers up and down the east coast. In 1999 she moved to Raleigh, NC to attend NC State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 2002 and her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2008. Jen was very active with NC State’s intercollegiate riding team during her time at school. She was the region’s reserve Cacchione rider her freshman year, the team’s president her junior year and then went on to coach the team for a year after graduating in 2002. Jen has trained under: Gary Zook, who has trained many equitation medal winners and national show hunters. Ken Berkley, partners with Scott Stewart, currently the nations top hunter/jumper riders based at River’s Edge Farm located in Stanton Station, NJ. Meredith Taylor, winner of the AHSA Medal Finals and winner of USET Finals, 2nds at both Maclay and Washington. Now a successful hunter trainer as well as grand prix rider. George Wallace, renowned judge and trainer and rider of many top hunters in the southeast. In addition to her school work and staying active on the team, Jen also started Freedom Run early in 2003. By 2008 Freedom Run had established itself as one of the top show barns in Raleigh, NC. Freedom Run specialized in developing riders as well as young horses. The farm attended numerous rated and unrated shows up and down the east coast turning out a number of top horses and riders. Recently Jen has moved to Tucson, AZ and has brought Freedom Run with her. Jen is hoping to establish a network of relationships on the west coast similar to that which she had established back on the east coast. Freedom Run continues to strive to develop young horses and riders of all levels and to participate on the show circuit at both a local and national level. Jen graduated from the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, and is currently practicing equine medicine.
