We had a very successful day at Whiskey Jacks on Snirt Run Day. We had a number of new members sign up. A huge thank you to Terry Rounds, Ernie Palchanes, Michele Gammel and Tom Gammel for stepping up and helping out. Kudos to Michele, she spent her entire day walking through snow & mud selling 50/50 tickets and did a Great job! Congratulations to Kevin Barnes from Attica, NY. He won the 50/50 drawing and took home $558.00. Thank you to Brian, Amie and the entire staff at Whiskey Jacks for their hospitality! Due to a number of disrespectful snowmobilers, the Constableville trail will be temporarily closed until further notice. Cliff will be meeting with this landowner the 3rd week of May. We will have more info at that time. In the meantime please respect the landowner, he has never had a problem with the ATVers. At this time you can't ride from the Nice & Easy up on the hill or ride down for gas. Sorry for the inconvenience. IMPORTANT UTV INFO-- UTVs over 1,000 pounds or wider than 70" are not legal in New York State. For the past couple of years, law enforcement in our area has been lenient with these machines. The Sheriff's Dept. and the DEC will be checking UTVs and issuing tickets this year. This year you will NOT be able to purchase a permit for an overweight UTV. This is not a Chamber of Commerce or Trail System rule. This is not a Lewis County Law, it is a New York State Law. Unfortunately, it will prohibit some people from riding UTVs in the state, but it is the Law! If your UTV is registered & insured in another state and is overweight, it is still not legal in New York State. You can't purchase a permit for the UTV and you can be ticketed for the overweight vehicle. I hope this clears up the confusion. If you have any further questions, feel free to call Highmarket Wheelers at (315)942-2080 or the Chamber at (315)376-2213. 2014 Calendar of Events May 17, 2014—ATV Safety Course at Towpath June 14, 2014—Membership Appreciation Day July 12, 2014—Kids Ride—Highmarket Inn July 26, 2014—Poker Run—Towpath ATV Safety Course at Towpath August 16, 2014—Poker Run—Highmarket Inn August 30, 2014—Poker Run—Hideaway Basket of Cheer Drawing Again this year we are having our “Basket of Cheer” raffle.
