BOARD OF DIRECTORS - Birankai North America

BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors is responsible for all operational, legal and financial aspects of Birankai North America. Our BoD currently has eight members. The president of BNA, currently Alex Peterson, is also the chair of the Board. The Teachers Council appoints one member to the Board, and one member is appointed by the Senior Council. The Senior Council may, should they choose, appoint two additional members to the BoD from their group. The members of the BoD elect the remaining members. A Director must who have a minimum rank of 1st Dan and a minimum of five years active involvement in the organization, possess unique skills and attributes which he or she can provide to the organization, and have demonstrated an ability and willingness to contribute to furthering of the objectives and purposes of the organization. Each Board member has one or more areas that they oversee; currently these are: Lynne Ballew: Treasurer, resource management, summer camp finances Archie Champion: Summer camp/national events, DVDs, Video Archives Steve Thoms: Website projects and content, Fundraising, Online store Kristina Varjan: Small projects, Senior Council interface Phil Traunstein: Scholarship/Grant program, Teachers Council interface Jim McDevitt: Summer Camp Future Debbie Pastors: Participation Strategic Objective, Online Teachers’ Forum Alex Peterson: Board Chair, BNA President, Strategic Planning Chair and Organization/Management Strategic Objective. Among the other duties for the BoD are to appoint and remove, employ and discharge, and, prescribe the duties and fix the compensation, if any, of all officers, agents, and employees of the organization. Currently, BNA has one part-­‐time employee, our Executive Director, Cindy Eggers. The remaining officers/staff are volunteers who donate generously of their time and energy to support the organization.
