Message from your 6 month old spiritually adopted baby Thank you for praying for me. “I’m sitting up straight now!” I’m 6 months old now. I just opened my eyes. Before today they were sealed shut for protection. I wonder what you look like. I can hear sounds, too! It’s great to have someone praying for me. Month 6: "I'm sitting up straight now." Your spiritually adopted baby is developing quite beautifully now. Her weight is approaching 2 pounds. She sits up straight now to accommodate her internal organs which have moved into their final place in her little body. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Don’t forget to pray for your baby. Abortion is legal through all nine months and her mom might still feel pressure to abort. If you would like more information about how to spiritually adopt a precious pre-born baby growing in the womb, please contact Denise Blair-Nellies from the Sacred Heart Respect Life Committee at 410-795-6852. Charismatic Prayer Group The Life in the Spirit Charismatic prayer group meets every Wednesday evening in Library Media Center in the school at 7:30PM, except for the second Wednesday of each month when a Mass is celebrated. The group meets to grow in holiness through prayer, praise, teachings, sharing faith, seeking and using the gifts of the Holy Spirit. All parishioners are invited to attend the meetings. For more information call Alice Zeiger at 410-5267422 or Ruby Wilson at 410-833-0812. The word Easter probably has roots in the Norse term Eostur, the season of the rising sun, or the time of the new birth of spring. Both these meanings lend themselves well to Christian symbolism for the new life of the risen Christ, the eternal light. He is risen, Alleluia! Thank you to all who helped to prepare our Worship Spaces for Easter! Parking Please help us by not parking along the curb on the school side of the building. This is a fire hazard and would prohibit an ambulance from access to the site. Thanks so much! Welcome Home All of us are called by Jesus to reach out and to bring His message to all people. Each of us has the responsibility to reach out to those in our families or among our friends who have been away from the Church to welcome them home. Do you know someone who has been away from the Church for a while or who feels unwelcome due to a past hurt? Sacred Heart’s Welcome Home program is for people who have been away from the Church for any period of time. Family Fellowship/Catholic Identity Committee Family Fellowship and our Catholic Identity Committee asked our school students to tell us about their favorite saint or Bible Story. Here is one response: A.J. Hunter says “St. Aidan is my favorite saint. I was named after him. I like him because he was trying to convert pagans and it was really hard because he didn’t even speak their language. He was so patient and never gave up. I’m glad I am named after such a great man. I hope to follow his example.” Sophie Foster’s favorite Bible story is “Solomon’s Listening Heart.” It is the story of two women living in the same house and both had very young babies. One woman roiled on top of her son in the night and killed him. So she tried to pass off the other woman’s baby as her own. They ended up taking the issue to Solomon and he said he would cut the living baby in half, giving one side to each woman. The rightful mother said not to do so and so he knew who the true mother was. I love this story because I really admire Solomon’s wisdom in the tough decision and I hope to be wiser someday.” Sacred Heart Youth Organization A Message to Parents Parents, God has entrusted to each child a particular job or task that has not been entrusted to anyone else. Pray with your child for a deeper understanding of how God is calling him or her to love and to serve. Young Adult Volleyball It’s time for Volleyball! Attention Parishioners, Sacred Heart School has a fundraising opportunity that you can help with without providing a donation or buying any goods. Don’t need another candy bar? Don’t really have extra cash to give a straight donation, but you would like to help. No need to do either, you can help provide tuition assistance for our students by doing your normal grocery, Wal-Mart, and gas purchases. The program works like this, you purchase retail gift cards through our program (called SCRIP), after Mass at face value, and spend the cards as you would normally to dine out or simply buy your essentials. It does not cost you anything above the face value of the card, but the school receives a percentage back from each card sold. Here is an example: Mrs. Smith needs some gardening supplies, so she buys a $100 The Home Depot® gift card for $100 through the school’s scrip fundraiser. Cha-ching! She just earned $4 for the school because The Home Depot gift cards are available from SCRIP at 4% less than face value. When Mrs. Smith checks out at The Home Depot, she pays with her gift card instead of using a credit or debit card! The list of retailers is endless and amounts vary from as little as $5 to as great as $1000. You can buy as little or as much as you need, as often as you want, year round. Please contact Gina Darby [email protected], or 443-740-3278 to begin participating in the SCRIP program today! Thank you in advance for your support of our wonderful school! Join us for lunch, a tour, a ride on the giant swing and an opportunity to meet the staff of Camp St. Charles. For over 60 years, thousands of children have been making friends, learning to work together and developing an appreciation for Creation while camping out, riding horses, working their way through a challenge course, trying archery, paddling on the river, making ceramics, and lots of other activities in Southern Maryland. Fully accredited with the American Camp association and certified by the State of Maryland, Camp St. Charles has been run by the Salvatorian Fathers and Brothers and Lay Salvatorians for over 60 years. New families may save by registering at our Open House. For more information, directions and to sign up for an Open House, see our web site, www.campstcharles.com or call us at 301-934-8799 or email us at [email protected] Pope Francis and the Mission of the Laity “Pope Francis and the Mission of the Laity” – presentation by papal adviser on May 1.
