Our objective is to make this technology scalable so that it can be used across India,” said Anshu Bharadwaj, executive director of CSTEP at the project's inauguration. The 'Scopebig' project is being developed Under the Indo European Co-operation on Renewable Energy Program by a consortium led by CSTEP along with Thermax Limited, Bihar State Power Generation, the Energy Centre of the Netherlands and French National Centre for Scientific Research. The project involves the development of a 3 MW demonstration Solar-Biomass hybrid power plant in Bihar and the related study of economic & employment activities. The project is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to India. Within the primary objectives of this project, it aims to promote a conducive, sustainable and inclusive growth by developing solar thermal and biomass technologies for application to rural India in collaboration with European Union and create viable business models and conducive policy environment for proliferation of these technologies at large scale. “This technology uses clean energy, and better still, the components used in this plant, in both the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) island and the biomass island will be completely indigenously manufactured,” R.R. Sonde of Thermax Company Limited said at the event. 12-12-2014 14:00 Hybrid CSP-Biomass project to be built in India | CSP World | Concentr... 2 of 3 http://www.csp-world.com/news/20141210/001584/hybrid-csp-biomas... The land for the project has been provided by Bihar State Power Transmission Company. Barun is located in northeast Inida, on the banks of Sone River. Scopebig stands for Scalable CSP Optimised Power Plant Engineered with Biomass Integrated Gasification. Once completed the test plant, it will be handed over to Bihar State Power Generation Company for further operation. During the cosntruction phase, the project consortium will provide training to local workforce to run and maintain the plant. “The focus on developing the solar biomass hybrid technology is only one side of the coin. The other side includes the creation of viable business models and conducive policy frameworks. To spread the uptake of this technology, ensuring financial sustainability and policy support are two crucial aspects that power generation has to consider,” the CSTEP said in a statement. No more details about the CSP technology to be used have been disclosed.
