BIOGRAPHY OF SAJAL K. DAS, Chair, Computer Science, Missouri University of Science and Technology Dr. Sajal K. Das is the Chair of Computer Science and also the Daniel St. Clair Endowed Chair at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla. During 1999-2013 he was a University Distinguished Scholar Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and founding director of Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking (CReWMan) at the University of Texas at Arlington. During 2008-2011, Dr. Das was a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in Computer Networks and Systems Division. In 2012 he was selected as E.T.S. Walton Fellow by the Science Foundation of Ireland. Prior to 1999, he was a Professor of Computer Science at University of North Texas, Denton where he founded the Center for Research in Wireless Computing, and also served as the Director of the Center for Research in Parallel and Distributed Computing during 1995-97. Dr. Das has been a visiting professor at University of Pisa, Italy; Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland; IIT-Kanpur, India; Honorary Professor of Fudan University in Shanghai, China; International Advisory Professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, China; and a Visiting Scientist at the Institute of Infocomm Research (I2R), Singapore. He is frequently invited as a keynote speaker at international conferences and workshops, and has visited numerous universities worldwide for collaborative research and invited seminars. Dr. Das’ research interests include wireless and sensor networks, mobile and pervasive computing, distributed and cloud computing, cyber-physical systems and smart environments including smart grid and smart healthcare, security and privacy, biological and social networks, applied graph theory and game theory. He has contributed significantly to these areas, published over 500 research articles and 47 book chapters, and directed numerous funded projects. Dr. Das holds 5 US patents, and coauthored three books – Smart Environments: Technology, Protocols, and Applications (Wiley 2005); Handbook on Securing Cyber-Physical Critical Infrastructure: Foundations and Challenges (Morgan Kaufman 2012); and Mobile Agents in Distributed Computing and Networking (Wiley 2012). He is a recipient of the IEEE Computer Society’s Technical Achievement Award for pioneering contributions in sensor networks and mobile computing; IEEE Region-5 Outstanding Engineering Educator Award; and 9 Best Paper Awards including those at IEEE MSN’13, IEEE SmartGridComm’12, QShine’09, EWSN’08, IEEE PerCom’06, and ACM MSWiM’00, and ACM MobiCom’99. At UT Arlington, he was a recipient of the Graduate Dean's Award for Excellence in Mentoring Doctoral Students, Lockheed Martin Award for Teaching Excellence, College of Engineering Research Excellence Award, UTA Academy of Distinguished Scholars Award, and the University Award for Distinguished Record of Research. Dr. Das is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal, and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, ACM/Springer Journal on Wireless Networks, and Journal of Peer-to-Peer Networks and Applications. A founder of the IEEE WoWMoM, IEEE PerCom and ICDCN conferences, he has also served as General and Program Chair of numerous IEEE and ACM conferences. Dr. Das has graduated 36 PhD and 30 MS thesis students. Dr. Das received B.S. degree (1983) from Calcutta University, M.S. degree (1984) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and Ph.D. degree (1988) from University of Central Florida, Orlando, all in Computer Science.
