Policy on DCH:
The digitisation and online access to cultural heritage represents a strong
opportunity to foster the creative industries and the job creation throughout
the reuse of the digital resources.
The Presidency encourages the opening of cultural data to support their reuse.
The Presidency supports the development of Europeana as unique access point to
the European cultural heritage, and the national aggregators that play a
fundamental role in ensuring core quality content to the European portal.
The Presidency wishes that the Europeana portal be improved in terms of
searchability, discovery and quality
The Presidency encourages the reuse of DCH for research, education and tourism
Italian EU Presidency
Policy on DCH:
The Presidency aims at pursuing the harmonization of national research
programmes at the European level in the field cultural heritage through
the involvement of all stakeholders: researchers, cultural heritage
experts and e-infrastructure providers.
The goal is to develop a European integrated data and service platform in
the cultural heritage field that allows the interoperability between the
various national systems for the management, access, and preservation
of digital cultural heritage.
Europeana expert meeting
Rome, 30 September/1 October 2014
One day and half day meeting organised by Europeana and ICCU in the
framework of Europeana v3.
The reunion is split into a plenary session of presentations (first day) and
parallel workshops on Education and Tourism to produce policy
recommendations (second day).
It will bring together 60-70 policy makers and thought leaders in cultural
heritage, education and tourism to identify best practices and make
recommendations for the reuse of cultural heritage material, collated
under Europeana, in education and tourism applications.
This event follows the strategy meeting “Europeana for Research &
Tourism” that will be held on June 23 and 24 in Athens under the aegis
of the Greek presidency.

“The reuse of digital cultural content in education,
tourism and leisure”
Rome, National Library, 2 October 2014
Organized by ICCU in collaboration with the European Commission, the
Europeana Foundation and the European project AthenaPlus, the
European network of good practices coordinated by ICCU.
The Conference will provide a space for debate and exchange of ideas in
order to plot strategies for the development of digital cultural heritage
as a driver of the education and tourism sectors.

• Round table on creativity and users
The outcome of the conference
Policy recommendations for cultural institutions about the use
of digital cultural heritage for tourism (under preparation).
To be shared at the European level with:
• the Greek presidency during the Europeana expert meeting
in Athens (23-24 June 2014)
• the European experts (from MSEG, education and tourism
sectors) during the Europeana meeting in Rome (30
September-1 October 2014)
• with the European projects communities (e.g. AthenaPlus)

“Research infrastructure and e-infrastructures for
digital cultural heritage”

International conference on e-infrastructures and research infrastructures for DCH in the
framework of e-IRG Conference and in cooperation with the ARIADNE project.
The International conference will focus on how e-infrastructures and research
Infrastructures, operating in the Cultural Heritage domain, are collaborating together
to integrate the existing different research data infrastructures.
It will provide an overview of the strategic, scientific and organizational issues related to
the development of virtual communities of interdisciplinary researchers and experts
from cultural institutions.
The challenges for the development of an e-Infrastructure for Cultural Heritage is based
on the re-use of tools and services from existing infrastructures and projects at
national and/or European level.
