Register of Consulting Archaeologists

Register of Consulting Archaeologists
For proponents needing to undertake an Aboriginal
Heritage Assessment in Tasmania
This Register of Consulting Archaeologists is provided by Aboriginal Heritage Tasmania (AHT) as a
service to proponents and consulting archaeologists.
This Register lists the names and contact details of consulting archaeologists who have indicated that
they are prepared to work in Tasmania. Please note that the register is updated on an annual basis.
The order in which the consultants are held in this register does not imply any ranking. Also, AHT
does not recommend or endorse any particular consultant. The proponent is advised to use the
register simply as a means of contacting consulting archaeologists.
Proponents should be aware that AHT has not verified the reliability or otherwise of the consultant’s
claims in relation to skills or capabilities. The proponent is strongly advised to seek referee reports in
order to determine the capacity of the consultants on the register to do the work required. The
proponent is further advised to ensure that they and their consultants follow the Guide to the
Aboriginal Heritage Process, and use the Consultancy Brief for Archaeologists as a guide to what is
required of an archaeologist.
Proponents should also be aware that different levels of assessments are required for different
activities/projects. Before engaging a consultant, AHT should be contacted for advice on the likely
scope of investigation required (Call: 6165 3152 or email to: [email protected]).
The Tasmanian Government supports Aboriginal community involvement in Aboriginal cultural
heritage management projects. Archaeologists working in Tasmania are expected to work with an
officer recognised by the Aboriginal community as being appropriate to represent and communicate
Aboriginal community opinion. A list of these Aboriginal Heritage Officers can be obtained from the
AHT website.
Disclaimer

an act or omission (negligent or otherwise) of the Crown or a servant or agent of them.
