Dr. Elizabeth Howell, Ph.D. A psychoanalyst and
traumatologist who specializes in the treatment of
dissociative disorders, Elizabeth Howell, Ph.D., is an
adjunct clinical associate professor for the NYU
Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and
Psychoanalysis; faculty and supervisor for the Trauma
Treatment Center, Manhattan Institute for
Psychoanalysis. She is Book Review Editor, Associate
Editor, of The Journal of Trauma and Dissociation and
Co-Director and faculty member for the
Psychotherapy Training Program: Diagnosis and
Treatment of Dissociative Disorders, of the International Society for the
Study of Dissociation (ISSTD). She is an Honorary Member of the William
Alanson White Psychoanalytic Society. She has written extensively and
lectured nationally and internationally on various aspects of trauma and
dissociation, as well as on gender and trauma/dissociation. Her books
include Understanding and Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder: A
Relational Approach (Routledge, 2011), The Dissociative Mind (Analytic
Press, 2005), and Women and Mental Health (co-editor, Basic Books, 1981).
A new book, co-edited with Sheldon Itzkowitz, Ph.D, titled The Dissociative
Mind in Psychoanalysis: Understanding and Working with Trauma, is
expected to be published in 2015 (Routledge). She is the recipient, from
ISSTD, of the Cornelia Wilber Award for outstanding clinical contributions
in the field of dissociative disorders, and of the Print Media Award in 2010
for The Dissociative Mind, and in 2012 for Understanding and Treating
Dissociative Identity Disorder: A Relational Approach. in New York City.

Norman Doidge, M.D., is a psychiatrist and
psychoanalyst, essayist, and poet, on faculty at the
Departments of Psychiatry at the University of
Toronto and, Columbia University, Center for
Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Dr. Doidge has
written over 170 scientific and popular articles. He
served as head of the Assessment Clinic at the Clarke
Institute, and the Psychotherapy Center in the 1990s.
His book, The Brain That Changes Itself, on
neuroplasticity, has been described by neurologist
Oliver Sack as “Fascinating...a remarkable and hopeful
portrait of the endless adaptability of the human brain.” An international
and New York Times Bestseller, #1 in Canada and Australia, it is available in
over 100 countries, has sold almost a million copies, been made into two
documentary films, and received scholarly and academic awards, including
the U.S. National Alliance on Mental Illness 2008 Ken Book Award, "for an
outstanding literary contribution toward a better understanding of mental
illness." The Brain That Changes Itself has recently been chosen by the
Dana Brain Foundation USA journal, Cerebrum, from among the 30,000
books ever written on the brain, as #1 best general book on the brain. Dr.
Doidge has lectured at the UN, The White House, major universities
including conferences sponsored by Harvard, MIT, and Yale. He has
lectured throughout Europe, Australia, South Africa, the United States and
Canada. He and his work have been profiled and cited in The New York
Times, Newsweek, The Washington Post, among others. Dr. Doidge
recently hosted the 25 hour TVO series, Mysteries of the Mind. He is
currently completing a second book on plasticity and a novel.
