Board Report 2014: Edward Chan, Malaysia

Report for WCP Executive Durban 2014
Malaysia through the Malaysian Association of Psychotherapy (MAP) has continued to send it representatives to
WCP2014 Durban as has been the case since WCP Beijing 2008.
MAP has continued to lead in the development of Psychotherapy in Malaysia and Asia. This year MAP has
launched several professional boards including Psychotherapy, Couple Therapy, Family Therapy, Group
Therapy and Child Therapy. This has enabled the practice and training of psychotherapy to be more professional
and accepted more widely.
MAP has also launched a new supervisor membership, enabling more supervisors to be trained and more clinical
supervisions to be conducted.
MAP is also preparing for the regional congress in 2015 and look forward to further growth of psychotherapy
through this congress.
The Ministry of Health has set up a new Complementary Medicine department and MAP has collaborated with
the Ministry of Health to get Psychotherapy more accessible to the general public.
