his Passion and Resurrection to the disciples. They are beginning to understand what
discipleship means: denying the self, serving others, and even suffering for the good
of others. Have you ever seen the game show “The Price is Right?” People compete
salvation to his followers. We see that Peter does not really understand it yet. He
doesn’t think that Jesus should have to die. Jesus rebukes him, calling him Satan and
explaining that he is thinking like a human being, not God. Unlike the contestants on
the Price is Right, today’s disciples have a clear understanding of the price of
discipleship because we can learn from the Gospel. We know that being Jesus’s
followers does not always mean taking the easy road. It means that we understand
that we are to serve others, and that may require suffering. The cost is that we let go
of any perks and focus on Jesus first. Like the contestants on the “Price is Right”,
however, we cannot win the kingdom of heaven without acknowledging the price of
discipleship. We need to see our choices and actions from God’s perspective, not a
human perspective. Are we able to acknowledge our sufferings, or do we like Peter try
to ignore the reality?

to help and guide you along the way. To find out how to commence the journey or to get some general information or advice,
contact Br Patrick Cronin, the Archdiocesan director of RCIA.

A NEW DESIGN FOR THE PARISH? Archbishop Philip has
sent a letter granting us the use of ‘Emmaus’ for our new parish.
Can we find a better design than our present three crosses that
you see at the head of this Sunday bulletin to symbolise the story
of Emmaus? This is where Jesus joins the two disciples
on the road after the Resurrection (Luke ch24 verses 13
-35). The Parish Pastoral Council invites parishioners,
especially school children, to create a new symbol.
Please drop your proposal into the box provided at the
entrance of the church.

Adelaide Archdiocese Bequest Program
‘God loves a cheerful giver’
God loves a cheerful giver” is a quote from 2 Corinthians 9:7 in
which the apostle Paul writes: “Each of you should give what you
have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Whilst people would always be encouraged to think of their families first when determining their Will, our Bequest brochure provides you with the information you will need should you decide to
support the many and varied good works of the Church through a
bequest. Brochures are available in the foyer.
