Westaways Broadhembury Devon EX14 3NQ 01404 841175 [email protected] Ladies and Gentlemen, 18th May 2014. Broadhembury Parish Hall - Progress. We have been making steady progress with the project since my update in the March edition of the magazine. A further update on where we have got to and how the future programme is panning out follows. Tender: The project was put out to tender to 5 companies on the 2nd May. All five companies are based in either Devon or Somerset and have experience of this type and value of build, all have been contacted prior to sending out the documentation to confirm that they wished to tender and have agreed they wish to do so. As I write one construction and one demolition company have already visited the site and others are in the pipeline to do so. Tenders have to be returned in sealed envelopes by 1200 on the 16th June and will be opened at a Project Committee/Trustees meeting held in the hall at 1400 on the same day. Following this there will be a tender report produced by Andrew Wilson Partnership’s (the lead professional team) and the report and recommendations will go to the Big Lottery for approval. Should this be completed successfully the contractor will be appointed on the 30th June and work will start on site on Monday 28th July 2014. The contract will take about 30 weeks to complete, there will be monthly progress meetings involving the Project Committee and the Contractors and if the programme continues as planned the new building will be handed over to the Trustees on the 16th March 2015. Hall Closure: I understand the trustees are in touch with all the organisations that use the hall to advise on closure and alternative venues. If you have any queries about this please contact one of the trustees. Funding and Grants: We still await the results of our applications to Viridor (V) (for £23,000.00) and the Garfield Weston Foundation (GWF) (for £28,000.00). There is a meeting with Viridor on Wednesday 21st May following which on Tuesday the 22nd May our application goes before their steering group. So fingers crossed for this? As far as the progress on the funding application to the Garfield Weston Foundation is concerned it is likely to be towards the end of June that we will hear the result. As I have mentioned before both the (V) and (GWF) applications are competitive; there are many other organisations in this and other counties applying for the same funds and I am not aware statistically what our chances are. Hope for the best anticipate the worst? Information: If anyone is interested in further information on the build project or has any queries that you think we may be able to help with please don’t hesitate to contact one of the Project Team.
