clinical-forensic psychology, with a special focus on violence risk
assessment and management in adult and adolescent populations.
She is active in teaching, research, and professional service. With
respect to risk assessment, she has written articles and chapters;
given presentations at academic and professional meetings
domestically and internationally; been qualified to give expert
testimony regarding risk assessment; and consulted with and
provided training to professionals in mental health, law, law
enforcement, probation, and corrections in North America and
Europe. Her most recent line of research, funded by the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the John D. &
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, focuses on implementation of
evidence based risk assessment procedures in probation settings.
Laura has received various distinctions, including the Early Career
Achievement Award in Forensic Clinical Practice, Research, and
Policy from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and the
Dr. Chris Hatcher Memorial Scholarship from the Association of
Threat Assessment Professionals.
Honors & Awards: Early Career Psychologist Credentialing Scholarship,
National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (USA) (2012);
Early Career Achievement Award in Forensic Clinical Practice, Research and
Policy, given by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (2010);
British Columbia Psychology Association Award of Excellence (2009); Chris
Webster Young Scholar Award, International Association of Forensic Mental
Health Services (2008); and The Consortium for Applied Research and
Evaluation in Mental Health Research Travel Award (2008)

Purpose: This conference was developed to expand the knowledge base of
forensic evaluators and is designed to meet the TDMHSAS educational
requirements for renewal of certification to perform forensic evaluations.
Objective: To enrich the participants understanding of violence risk
assessment and management with the Structured Professional Judgment
approach and provide an overview of the HCR-20 Version 3.
About the Speaker: Laura S. Guy is a Threat Assessment Specialist with
ProActive ReSolutions Inc. She obtained her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at
Simon Fraser University in 2008 and completed a two-year postdoctoral
fellowship (dual focus on research and clinical-forensic assessment) at the
University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). She has been a faculty
member in the Department of Psychiatry at UMMS since 2009, where she
currently holds the rank of Assistant Professor. Her expertise is in the field of
